Sound sequence: Pulsating, high repetiton. 3rd warning: Siren alarm as long as vertical airspeed exceeds 29 m/sec. at or below the preset altitude. Sound sequence: High pitch continuous siren. (page 46) Needs a minimum of 6 seconds or longer of freefall. (page 45) Count til 5 was too short, 900 ft usually take longer than 6 sec. No noeed to mail L&B, just RTM... Do you guys have some more info on when in december? Early/late/all? Where to get info on staying/camping/ the DZ itself (on the Web)? Getting there and around? I've been playing with the thought of going to Namibia for years now, time to make nails w/ heads! (german proverb...) I was thinking about travelling around seeing the country, but taking a higher PoV doing so might help raise the fun.... The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. Do You Know The EXACT # Of Jumps You Have?
Chrisky replied to Kramer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Yep, i do. I got into the bad habit of logging them with my ProTrack and then just dump the numbers in the book, but a seasoned jumper at my DZ brought up a good point in doing good jobs in logging your jump: Time capsules I had everybody at my old DZ who went on that good-bye dive write into my logbook for that jump. I figure that it is a really really nice thing to have other people you had fun dives with not only sign your log, but also fill in the description. You put it away, then pull it out sometime later and it suddenly is all there again, all those buddies and the fun, right outta nothing. -
I've only used packer services like three times ever, but i ALWAYS set the brakes, slider and cocked the PC. I figured that was standard practice due to the packer being less prone to overlook something if a rig doesn't fit the standard setup. Takes like 20 seconds and i know the gear specific points of my gear setup are covered. The "work" part is hardly setting brakes, slider and PC. If a packer is really really busy and gets a ton of different rigs, it is me who feels more confident knowing i did these crucial parts myself. I pay the packer for getting that slippery ball of quite new Zero-P into that still stiff little dbag thingy. My two cents. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. "The Parachute and its Pilot" Book
Chrisky replied to BrianSGermain's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Yeah, it sometimes is a bit flowery, but i find it to be a much more enjoyable read thanks to that. I haven't found the opposite extreme (dry aerodynamics formula talk) lazy dudes like me like to read over yet, so i'm fine with the flowery extreme. Other than that, i got to jump 9 times this weekend (finally once again), and my flying seemed completely different and more aware. Like it suddenly all started coming together. I also brought the book out to the DZ for people to have a look at it, and i'll probably set up a bigger order sometime SOON. -
Are you talking about the stows on top of the the bag instead of the sides or is there a newer design? The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... Not every Swooper hooks & not every Hooker swoops ...

Simple answer: When passing through his HARD DECK, definitely. You don't want to burn through the hard deck just to find out that it is a malfunction and you could have chopped on time. Where you set your hard deck is another matter. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... Not every Swooper hooks & not every Hooker swoops ...

I would have RTFM myself, if i had had it at hand. But there's the textbook answer, now isn't it? 13 m/s isn't that much at all. I usually dump below the 2nd warning, as i use my 2nd for "end track, slow down, wave+pull" notice @ 3k, having me dump @ 2.5k or so. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. DZs' risk. Neither packer nor jumper. If gear is rented from the DZ for $$, it is the DZs' responsibility to keep it well maintained and replace it if damaged (unless the jumper willingly damages it). That's what you pay the rental fee for isn't it? The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... He was referring to the 2nd alarm sequence going off. What usually happens during hard turns is the flatline sequence (3rd alarm), if a speed higher than ~20-25 m/s vertical is reached. The second alarm goes off at designated altitude even if you are under canopy. Might maybe help for a CReW breakoff notice or such (wild guess). RTFM... Relevance to this thread? Why don't you just PM him what you think of it. If you think that the original poster of this thread should have chopped, please say so. Aubrey, I think at 35 jumps going through your hard deck with a snivel, being not sure to tell if it will work or is just a ball of crap, you should have chopped. Even though the altitude you were in the saddle was acceptable, you did not stick to your selfset safety margins. That is a situation he sould try to avoid. My personal experience of Lake Wales Skydiving Center as of early this year was it being a professional DZ with very friendly and professional staff and locals. The only issue i see with leaving the door of the otter open is the drag issue. You should always get a good gear check and wear your seatbelt, then there's no issue if the pilot is alright with leaving the door open. Sounds to me like the staff member in question had a bad day. Personally, i would have tried to get a four-eye talk with him/her about that before i would have approached other staff members and/or the DZO. Unless i did that i would not go out and bash a DZ in public as i'm only voicing personal opinion. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... Please explain to me why somebody should charge twice the sum for the same amount of work. If there is no technical reason for a reserve having to be unpacked every 180 days rather then 365, why do it? The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. Because it's a PD reserve and PD says you can only repack it so often (IIRC 40 times). No such regulation in Germany, airworthyness is what matters. As for the seatbelt and it being annoying... Maybe, but if you crash, you don't get squashed under the two lucky people way back. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... I had voted 12 month like in Germany if i had had the option. In Germany for most jumpers it doesn't make a difference because they only jump during the season, which is rarely longer than 6 month, but if it is, they don't have to get a repack (local riggers are rare in Germany as are large dropzones). IIRC the technical directorate of the DFV (GPA) did not find a technical reason to shorten the repack cycle. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. The safety factor of the repack duration is how bad the reserve settles. The number of jumps on the main during that time doesn't mean too much. It simply raises the likelyhood of a main mal and ensueing reserve repack. Shortening repack cycles just to pay a riggers living doesn't make sense, you could just as well raise the repack price. But how many people would then strive to get a riggers ticket in order to be allowed doing their own repacks, as the course for the ticket would pay off soon? The repack cycle in germany is 180 days, and by law (although nobody does it) a licensed sport jumper is allowed to do his own reserve pack. Got into the searching habit myself and found it to be much more instantly gratifying than waiting for people to post. Especially since i guess people don't like to post the same stuff over and over again, so you tend to wait even longer... But you're right, i have to admit that... I can be quite a bugger! Did you read the reviews in the gear section? Did you do a search? There are already tons of opinions on these exact systems in this forums, not becessarily necessary to repeat them... That said, they are both excellent rigs, i have a Wings and love it, but from what i read here, Infinity owners are very likely to say the same.
