  9. Because that's not actually what's happening. THIS web site has a more complete explaination than I gave. Also http://www.colby.edu/sci.tech/st215/2.2view/tsld008.htm and http://www.digest.net/bmw/archive/v9/msg00906.html and http://www.usatoday.com/weather/wdensity.htm. convinced :) my mistake was that i though "no replacement happens" apperently it does: "fixed volume of gas, say one cubic meter, at the same temperature and pressure, would always have the same number of molecules no matter what gas is in the container" my assumptions will work only for closed systems. if you add water to air in closed system, it will get denser. you're right. stan. -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ... 10. i think it's still wrong. even if water weighs less then air on molecular level, there is no "replacement". wet air = dry air + water. we have weight of dry air + weight of water, making wet air more heavy. since there is no change in volume, it makes humid air more dense. how can air + somethin be less dense then just air ? stan. -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ... 11. sorry, couldn't help it :) when it gets hotter it's less dense simply because the iar raises and the pressure drops. less molecules = less density. the fact that they move faster doesn't change density. stan. -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ... 12. if water weight is more then dry air weight and thus in wet air we have more weight for the same volume, wouldn't that make wet air more dense ? more weight, the same volume = more dense, right ? stan. -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ... 13. what do you mean that "molecules of air are being replaced with molecules of water" ? where do they go ? why are they being replaced ? if relative humidity increases there will be more water in the air and the same amount of air molecules. shouldn't air in this case get more dense ? even if they were replaced, why whould it make air less dense ? stan -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ... 14. pretty useless answer. he alreay knows that j1 is sized for 150 and he is saying it in his message. so sending him to sunpath's web site would do much. he is rather asking for practical knowledge from somebody who happens to have 120 in j1. i have safire2-149 in j1 and it's perfect fit, i think 120 will be too loose. stan. -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ... Is that strings on a Banjo? hey, it was two weekends ago and i don't think you guys jumped at boston-providence that weekend either, so you should've come jump with us from that bridge ! stan. -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ... 21. yeah, i thought you took it off :) i use two dytters to be more safe, and it's unlikely that both will mal. but. if i forget tot urn 'em on it means i forget about two of them and they both are off. that's why as a rule i never take my helmet off until i hear my beeps. if i don't i know i'm screwd and i'm extra cautios. be safe. stan. -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ... 23. Did you have your helmet on your head while taking off ? Did you remove it before 1000 ft ? If you battery goes dead you will hear warning signal on your way up. It starts way before battery is almost dead so even if you hear it in a plane (provided you last time you used your dytter wasn't a year ago), battery will be good for the jump. Replace it after, and you're all good. The good idea is to have 2 audible altimeters and I don't see anything wrong to become too dependent in this case. We depend on visual altimeter, so what's wrong with audible ? Have the level of your warnings high enough and you won't miss it. You have to watch you visual altimeter and audible one will remind you about your altitude even if you don't pay much attention. Hearing is just as good as vision. You trust your vision, why don't you trust your hearing ? I jump two dytters in my helmet and protrack on my harness for speed measurement and I don't have any visual altimeters. I can't see them any way doing speed dives and I rely on my two dytters and I also watch the ground. stan. -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ... 24. being less stable is actually advansed rw technique. if one is very balanced it's much harder to do quick turns. the less balance you are, the less efforts it takes to get you aout of balance and turn, the quicker all your maneuvers are. as for the jumptrack, you can right click on free fall graph, select advanced or 3d features (don't remember exactly) and new toolbar appear. the very righ button will copy the image to clipboard and you can paste it to any graph editor. stan -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ... 25. i was thinking the other day about how big slider effects the opening. i'm not sure excatly at what point of opening the slamming happens. on one hand bigger slider will stay up longer and thus making canopy spread slower and more be more soft on you. on the other hand, since it's bigger it will let the canopy to spread to its width right away and that itself may cause slamming. and safire2 slider is truly big. i think that's why sizes are 149, 169. it's actually 150 and 170 becasue of additional surface ! :) and collapsed slider doesn't want to stay behind my head, it's too big ! anyway, my new smaller slider is on its way ! :) stan -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ...
