> I'm going to get into DOS and make sure all that crap is removed you also has to make sure that the crap is removed from registry. after you clean on HDD, run some utility like RegistryClean. also check list of services and what you have there. there might be a service installed and system tries to start it. if something is screwed with that service that may cause problems. if you have NT try to load "last know good configuartion" or whatever it's called. what system do you have ? stan.

Michelle, I'm in no way tried to insult you or do something of that kind. If I did, I apologize, I didn't mean to. The exit order topis was literally "beaten to death" and I really didn't want to start it again, especailly since it's discussed in the forum right next to this thread, I just tried to bring one small aspect of it, taking that "slow fallers first" concept is given. Sorry again, Stan.

> and have a regular freefall rate that allows me about 47 seconds in freefall wow ! 47 seconds is not regular freefall time. not at least from 13500. i do speed dives and my freefall time is around 42-44 seconds. regular rw from 13500 should be at least 60 seconds. unless you pull high. please dont's start "why is it that slow fallers are out before the fast fallers?" it's discussed here in "exit order" topic - http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forums/showflat.pl?Cat=&Board=forumsafetytraining&Number=154335&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=0&part= i was curious how speed divers fit into the exit order. stan.

> Congratulations! 291 is a very respectable high speed. What are you wearing on your speed attempts? just regular RW suit with booties and w/o arm grippers. not even very tight. air friction is not my problem yet. my acceleration is steep, my balance at high speed sucks. i'm constanlty hitting 280+ speed now and i keep loosing my balance there. but i'll work my way there :) stan.

> I thought I was ready to go pro that would be wicked cool to hit 300 mph on the second dive. :)
-
>>btw, i hit 291 last sunday :) still a little shy of 300 :( > > Do you just get the max speed from the column in jump-track or am I missing something? i'm not sure i know what you mean. 291 mph was my max speed at that jump. take a look at my free fall profile in attachment. that's not the number that is used for speed skydiving, it's just my top speed. for competition they use the average (it's not really average actually) speed at what you cover 1 vertical kilometer. my best result is 266 mph. stan.

> Out of curiousity. What was the avg speed for that jump? with avg speed of 260, max should be in excess of 300 :) i was just joke about 260 mph space ball. one on the best freefleyers at my dz tried speed diving once. he got 218 mph if i'm not mistaken. at least around that range. > Most freefliers are going to have a very, very hard time staying with it no one would be able to have his hand in front of him to grab it at that speed. Clay, fess up ! :) btw, i hit 291 last sunday :) still a little shy of 300 :( stan.

> Ball going at 260 mph was it filled with lead ??? if you don't make any extra efforts you will get stuck around 240 mph no matter what you do. it's like a barrier. going faster will require different body position. stan.

that makes sence and i think i made a stress on it as well in my original post. i don't really have too much of the direction control after i pass certain speed. and any control input would kill the speed and as the result the very idea of this discipline. funny, some time ago, very often i had cork-screw spin on my dives. as it turned out it was my wrist altimiter :) stan.

hi ! what people think is the right exit order for speed divers ? i agree with the whole "slow fallers - first, fast fallers - last" concept and don't wanna start this topic again. but how speed divers fit in that picture ? on my dropzone i'm the only one who does that kind stuff and i usually go first. since next group is usually big RW group and it takes some time to climb and set, at the time they open i'm setting for the final. sometimes on windy days (we fly otter), i'm already on the ground when i see them opening. i like going out first and be sure that i'm not gonna hit anybody at close to 300 mph speed. also if i lose my balance and zoom around, i always have time to slow down and during that time i track and get away from anybody. my track is pretty fast when i pull out from the dive. since i have plenty of vertical speed, it gives me a lot of horizontal and if i find myself when i shouldn't be, i can easily fix it. in fact i have so much horizontal speed that it sometimes slows me down to 45 mph. the only one thing is that since next group is big and they need some time to climb out, they trend to put me short :) if i exit after all rw and ff and just before high openers, students and tandems, i still should have plenty of horizontal separation since i'm not affected by wind much, but if i'm not going straight down i think i can catch up with previous group and that wouldn't be pretty. i know that i should be aware of my heading but even small mistakes at high speed would be magnified, so i'd rather eliminate that risk. just wanna hear what people think and what is the usual practice for this case. thanks, stan.

tight jumpsuits vs. good balance ... the reduction of drug is very important but what's more important is balance. i jump pretty tight RW jumpsuit with booties and w/o arm grippers. it's more bulky the kinky red latex suits, but my acceleration curve is actually steeper then curve of those who are the best. my problem is that i can't hold my balance long enough. in attachment is my typical jump. good acceleration, i enter the speed measurement zone at 283 and at 8050 ft i lose my balance. that sucks :) i'd break 300 mph barrier at that jump if i held it a little longer :) so i don't see any reason for me to go tighter suit at least at this point of time - my acceleration is good and drag doesn't hold me. stan.

pretty rigid. i tried "loose" style, it didn't work very well. i try to be as straight as possible, pointing my toes and thinking fast :) as for the buffeting, it happens. sometimes everything goes very smooth and enter speed measurement zone at 270. but as it happend before in 3 seconds i lose it :) when i manage to keep it balanced longer, my speed should be very high. i compared my acceleration curve with curve of one of the best and mine appears to be steeper. so i have a potential :) don't have balance on high speed yet though :) as for the heading, when i'm in balance, i go pretty much vertical. when i'm not , i'm all over the sky :) next weekend a friend of mine is gonna bring a tripod and i'm gonna get directional gun-microphone. he's gonna film me from the ground. hope it will work out well. i wanna listen to the sound of speed dive. people say it sounds like a jet. stan.

i just noticed - speed skydiving was added ! thanks ! stan :)

there is always risk involved. the idea is to lower it, but it's always gonna be there. good thing i don't have to worry about freefall collisions or collisions under the canopy. and no traffic when i land. sometimes on windy days i land and see the next group opening :) stan.

i've done around 55 speed dives so far. The best for today is 290 max and i'm getting pretty consistent - i clocked 284 2 jumps in a row last saturday . i think the huge difference is your body position. Faster suits will make the difference but not as much as simple balance will do. They say your head should be in netrual position, eyes on the horizon. If you look down, you will arch and lose your speed. I found out that I'm most stable when I look down. I know about parasitic arch , so I keep it in my mind and think about "not arching". So far it works well. I plan on breaking 300 this month or next. I jump regular RW suit and I just took off my grippers last weekend. I also find RW suit with booties to be faster then the one w/o booties. Here is a picture from last speed meet in FL. It's not me, but it shows the body position I use, but legs closer together. Hope it helps. Stan.

i jump at jumptown (jumptown.com) dz and think this dz is great. great community and great people. stan.

i beleive you don't even have to have PT to see the red LED. if your cable is plugged, port is enabled/set by BIOS/other and you select the right port in the jumptrack and hit connect, the red LED should be lit. stan.

drag ?? i think it's more aerodynamically shapped then open face helmet. it may restrict your field of view to some extend, but not much i beleive. and drag isn't an issue for freeflying - freefly jumpsuits are more loose then regular RW and thus produce more drag. stan.
-
ups. i meant "you will lose so much altitude .."
-
> I'm a big fan of the barrel roll i will lose som much altitude doing barrel roll in your track. that's cool, but not very usefull. stan.
-
aren't you supposed to look up and check if there is somebody above ? if you have somebody above and you deploy it's much worse then ahving somebody below, don't you think ? looking up will eliminate the chances of having th situation you just described. stan.

"If, on break off, you turn and track, making sure that noone is below you, ..." you meant "above you", didn't you ? stan.

i can't really say that i enjoy roominess of cessna :), but i like jump cessna now and then because of its slower jump run speed. it gives you sorta feeling of falling when you leave the strut. what i can't understand is how people manage to dislocate shoulders or something else during some simple activities, like cnaging tires, being in freefall (and i'm not talking about freefall collision) or climbing out ? stan.

Craig, Yes, it is mounted in my helmet. I also have Pro Dytter and it looks like it lies on high speed. It beeped twice at 7500 instead of 5500 on my two best jumps. I talked to Ken (speed diver from Norway) and he said he had the same problem and now he has it set lower. Did you expirience something like that ? According to new rules two ProTracks should be mounted on the sides of the rig. How exactly are they mounted ? Will average values taken from two ProTracks mounted both inside of the helmet be accurate ? I'd rather have them both in my helmet for training just for safety reasons. And since we are on the topic, what's your opinion on booties for speed dives ? I seem to be more stable with booties and I remember seeing Mike Brooke's pic where he was wearing J&F suit with booties, but I didn't find any info on booties on J&F web site. Thanks, Stan.
