Bad shake. That sucks. I find that there are some hospitals that are good and some that are not. Wildly different treatment depending on where a hospital is located. At least by me. Though, any hospital that I have ever gone to has solved my problem. It just tends to take them awhile. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. i WANT TO DOWNSIZE MY CANOPY ANY SUGGESTIONS?
Fast replied to riddller21's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
When he has been jumping a 190 F111, I don't see any good reason to skip buying a 170. It will be significantly faster and very different. We also don't know if he is calculating his wingloading correctly. My advice is to demo the Pilot, Saber2 and Safire 2 in a 170 size and see if that makes you happy. There is a whole lot of learning that you can do on those canopies. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. I agree with you bill (I think) I don't like when people get so bent out of shape about if you are a free flier or belly flier. I do both. I think you need to learn belly before freeflying for saftey, but even just between those two disciplines which each have sub disciplines, there is so much to learn. NOt to mention crw.... yeah. Why anyone would want to be tied down to only one thing amazes me. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Make your own Conceptus-style tongue switch?
Fast replied to The111's topic in Photography and Video
Continous focusing does sound interesting on the surface. What it does at least on some of the Digital Rebels, is prevent the camera from dumping out the buffer. One of the video guys at my DZ experienced this problem. It isn't a bad thing persay, but if you take a bunch of pictures at the top of a jump and then want a bunch really fast at the bottom sometimes you might run into trouble. I haven't presonally reproduced these claims, because I only have the conceptus bite switch with stereo plug, but it is worth looking in to. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Was that one published somewhere? I think I recognize it, maybe from the same exit pictorial I had a small shot in recently. To contribute to the thread, here is one I really like from the Puerto Rico boogie. Not a very difficult shot to take, but the scenery is amazing. I also like this one even though the parachute is far away. Yeah it was in a recent parachutist. My only picture to date that has been published. I could send in more pictures I'm sure, but I choose to only send the ones that I feel are really remarkable. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. I think what Jan is trying to say is that more is less. I think the point you may have missed is that in the long term, if we as a sport don't have something in place, the FAA may eventually do it for us and in the case of that happening, it will most certainly be much more heavy handed. My thought on that is that, while not perfect, the FAA eventually gets to most of the things they want to do. It just tends to take them awhile to do so. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. My roommate did 5 tandems before her first AFF jump (she is A lic now) and it taught her some very bad habits that she had to work to break once she started doing AFF. Namely not having her legs out at all, ever, and also landing with her feet up. I think one or two translate well, beyond that you need to learn more about what you're doing. I did one tandem, wasn't sure if this skydiving thing was all it was cracked up to be, but decided to do AFF anyways. The tandem was kinda borring. That was just under 4 years and 1200+ jumps ago. Been at the DZ almost every jumping weekend since. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Ordering a New Container thinking of a Vector need opinions ASAP
Fast replied to catfishhunter's topic in Gear and Rigging
Good plan. I have a vector and love it. Every inch of that rig has good design. I was under the impression that magnetic riser covers are available for all sizes of vectors as well. You can even get them on tandem rigs. (sigmas) ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. No, not arguing the dangers or pain involved with jumping with a cold at all. I agreed a number of times that the risk of rupturing an eardrum is real. I don't understand the "blown sinus" approach and think it's a little silly to imply that you can damage your skull. I am in the same boat as Cora. I just use the term "Blown Sinus" or the like as a general description of the fact that _something_ in your sinus cavity ruptures, be that the skin that makes up the wall, a blood vessel, whatever, and it causes you to bleed from your nose. I'm no doctor, just trying to convey a general sense of "Don't do this" mostly cause I'm bored at work. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. If I remember the video right he is using 4 JetCat turbines. They run about 2500 a piece for just the turbine. He might have special order ones too which cost more. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. I dislike the mainstream qualification of what an "extreme" sport is. Skydiving is very fringe and alternative. Most people can't even fathom participating in it at the level most skydivers do. It goes way beyond what society considers extreme. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. "hematoma formation" That's a bruise, right? While that sounds painful, I still think the risk of a ruptured eardrum is much more serious. The pressure difference necessary to result in a skull fracture must be HUGE compared to eardrum damage. I found this on Skydive Radio: http://www.skydiveradio.com/shows.htm Show 54. AN EENT explains that sinus pain from jumping while congested is real. The risk of rupturing an eardum is real. Sinus damage is not. Edit to make clicky Are you just arguing for the sake of arguing? That to me is pretty stupid. People jumping with a cold / congestion almost always wish they hadn't after they get down. What I consider a blown sinus to be is when whatever in there gets fucked up, it may not result in permenant damage, but it sure does result in blood coming out of your nose. You can argue with me all you want but I have seen it first hand and watched the pain double someone over in tears. Add that to all the other risks and you would have to be stupid to jump congested. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Don't jump with a cold. Sorry to be the one to break it to you. If you chose to jump with a cold some of the things that can happen include, perforated ear drums, ruptured sinus, dizzyness, sever pain, bleeding from the nose, etc. The list goes on. If your head is stuffed up you should not be skydiving. It is a very large risk to your health. 99.9% of the people on this site are not qualified to tell you that it is ok to jump. The only person who could tell you its ok to jump with a head cold / stuffy head etc is a doctor that has both evaluated you and understands aviation and specifically the problems involved with jumping when your sinuses and ears do not clear. I am not a doctor, but I am not advising its ok to jump. That much I am qualified to do! The sky will always be there, losing your hearing would sure suck now wouldn't it! ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me.
