Yes they have. I'm only 24... It can't have changed that much! ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Swooping is taking one last poke at the bear before escaping it's cave - davelepka

Reading this, I am wondering if I am just time distorted or what, but I remember being out of sight of my parents a lot when I was 12-13 ish and I had a pretty over protective mother. Maybe times have just changed. Or maybe I am remembering wrong but I know I had quite a bit of free reign compared to what I think parents give today pre-car days. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Then why don't you write them a letter, email, make a phone call and educate them on proper website launching/testing practices? Cause I am sure that someone over there at UPT or the web design company knows that and the site going up at all was probably just a minor goof up. I was addressing the poster here on dz.com in an informal manner. I don't need to get all holier than thou on UPT cause I like what they are doing with the new site! ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Have You Ever Fudged YOUR Jump Numbers?
Fast replied to katiebear21's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I haven't, though I think it would be fun to show up at a dz and say I have like 300 jumps. My current rig wouldn't really give it away but my next one will For what it's worth, I want to make the comment that for the most part I am a weekend jumper, the bulk of my jumps are made on saturday and sunday. I also live in wisconsin, which means for 5-6 months out of the year its cold and I won't make more than 1-2 a weekend, on the average, if that. So far this year I have over 500 jumps and another guy at my dz has over 800. He jumps more tue-friday than I do. I am on staff and that helps but if I had unlimited funds I think I would make just as many even if I wasn't staff. It does get a little boring though. I am glad for winter cause I need a break from 10-20 altitude jumps and 4-8 hop and pops a week. I guess I don't do much other than work and jump so that is how I can make so many. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Mine still redirects as well. I just want to add that having taken a look at what the new site is going to be, I like the overall look and feel of it. So long as the high level of information that was on the RWS site remains. To address the above person who said it was a test site, well, if that was the case, it is a poor way to do testing. I have never put up a site that was in the testing phase on a live domain address. They go up on temporary addresses or internal virtual servers for testing, not out in the plain view of the public. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Umm, No. I caught it, I just didn't like it. I liked the fantasy of the old movies. I like the gadgets. I liked the unrealistic side. If I wanted to watch "The Bourne (Next title)" then I would have gone expecting to see Matt Damon. I've got to disagree with you. This is a rebirth of the novels and the movies I enjoyed growing up. This is what Bond is about. Pure style, the ability to do what it takes to live and get the job done. Daniel Craig pulled it off and I really hope he's able to pull off more. I can't wait for the next one. I am only 24 and wasn't around for the pre-brosnan days really. I have seen a lot of the movies though and this is a much better take on what I think bond should be. A lot of the brosnan movies made me really dislike the whole series. I mean, Denise Richards as a bond chick? Are you kidding me? Up untill this point the bond movies have been much too campy for me to enjoy. This was much more literal and gritty. That is a feeling that I like from the bond series more than the campy humor and lack of on screen chemistry that the last few have had. I like to see things that might actually be doable. Put a few but limited things that my imagination has to reach to belive and it's ok, but if half the movie is crazy shit that could never happen, it because too much of a strech and I don't enjoy it as much. As for no hot chicks in the opening scene, meh, I guess whatever. It didn't really bother me. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. I will get out with my alti floating around 2000. Because the altimeters aren't perfect I have probably gotten out as low as 1800-1900 before. I am only willing to do that because I can exit and be stable as I am exiting. There is no point I am not stable so I can throw as soon as I am clear of the tail. I typically leave with my hand on the hackey (still stable) so that I don't have to bother with reaching for it. I have done a lot of hop n pops though and have a canopy that doesn't tend to spin up or do crazy stuff like that. When I downsize next I suspect the altitude I am willing to get out will increase. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. I don't know your situation and whatever arrangements you've made with folks, but $5 for an 8x10 is, in my opinion, WAY underpriced. It also looks like you've discovered the horrors of posting photos on the internet; make them a little too good and people just rip them off. It's hard enough trying to be a decent camera flyer without people being ungrateful and not wanting to pay for your work. Kinda leaves a sour taste in your mouth. My DZ is small and everyone is friends. I can understand people wanting pictures in that regard and a lot of these people have taught me things. I feel bad asking for money for pictures but then it comes back around with people giving me shit about it when I don't give stuff away anymore and I feel worse. I could just give the pictures away for cost but I dunno if that would make me happy either. I'm no tony hathaway, but I take decent pictures. A 8x10 from me is $5 and that includes post processing and having it printed at target or walmart whichever happens to be most convenient (Costs about $3 for me to print). I don't print them myself because I haven't got a printer yet that is colorfast. I have the i960 from canon and the prints don't last long enough for me to justify selling them. I want the Canon pixma pro9500 when it comes out heh. Yep, probably underpriced. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. I'm starting to catch shit for not being willing to give away high resolution originals of my images. I am working on consistantly charching people $5 for a 8x10 but every now and then I give one away for free. The frustrating thing for me is that I try to do my best to put up some of the pictures I take on the net, and they are quality enough that you could make 3x5 prints from. But people want the high res for free when I was there on my own dime. If someone pays me for slots I expect to be giving them the CD with all thier pictures on it and expect that from other video guys when I pay them. But if I pay my own way onto the jump I odn't see why I shouldhave to hand over my pictures. I mean, I like to do so in a lot of cases, but I dunno, I mean, I want to buy a $400 printer this winter, I can't afford to just flop the money down on that, print pictures, and not charge anything. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. I agree. If the guy had gone limp they should have just delt with it and carryed him out. They shock him enough times thats going to end up being the result anyways. For what it is worth, it is videos and treatment like the one posted from the cell phone that make citizens unwilling to deal with and afraid of the police. It makes everyone involved have a much harder job. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. depending how good you are at programing you can download a program that monitors the serial port. (I am assuming it has a serial hook up) and figure out how the data is coming in. Then write a php script that executes every minute to read the data into a file and truncate the file to the length you want it to be. Then you just write a program to read the data file and create your graphs. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. I fully understand. Which I noted above. Just that this thread started with a lot of talk about how the people over there were pretty much assholes. I think I would be mighty pissed if it happened to some comunity that I was part of is all. On a second side note: The only thing that really pisses me off about this and the other forum is that neither auto create hyperlinks when a URL is put into a post. I mean 95% of forum software does that. It turns into a constant pita for people to make clickys for people who can't figure out how it works. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. This is kinda off topic, but I can understand where a lot of thier complaints are coming from. DZ.com and the new RC.com lack a whole lot of the features that many other popular forum solutions have had for years. Thier site is pretty bland too. I say that as someone who has done web development and put together a lot of forums. I think most people here don't realize that because they haven't posted a lot on more feature rich forums. I know why things are the way they are, so you don't have to gripe to me about that. Just wanted to say that I understand why they are all bitching. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. It has a lot to do with the order of things to my understanding. When the nylon is created initially the dye process can be done in a manner than makes it still good for skydiving. When you try to fuck around with things after the fact, when there are different threads, glues, etc that can get ruined, you are asking for trouble. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. My goals are pretty straight forward. 1. Get proficient at headdown. I am starting to get the basic jist of it but I need quite a bit of work. 2. Get a few more pictures into parachutist. 3. Compete at Nationals in 4-way. 4. Get my AFFI Rating. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. yea, u definately can't take a manta,,hmm that makes me wonder now,, what about tandem rides? Just let this be your incentive for your next 1000 jumps. -
An unnecessary cutaway from what? You didn't really answer his question. If you are talking about cutting away from one brake that will and one brake that wont release, there are much simpler options for that (and that doesn't even count taking more care in stowing and unstowing your brakes) So is that what you're talking about? ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Good on you for trying to make a difference. I have been met by quite a few people taking the attitude of a brick wall when trying to educate them. What they don't realize is when the fuck up it's going to feel like they are slaming into a brick wall. (har har) Notice I said, when, not if. Everyone fucks up at some point. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. I only this year got a neptune. I don't even look at it a whole lot, just to get a rough idea of my position in the pattern. I still swoop by sight.
