  1. You round up some friends take a cross country trip and "get" your money back... or something. What bytch said is true though, skydiving community is a pretty small one. Fucking someone over usually gets you in trouble or at least makes people think your an asshole. Not to mention the whole karma of it... ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 3. I just used a regular Diamond .3 the camera I was jumping isn't mine and honestly it didn't look that bad. I don't want to sound stupid by saying it is _just_ glass, but kinda that is how I feel at least in terms of what im gonna be able to use. Any of the lenses I have seen designed for HD camcorders are much bigger than I am willing to put on a side mount camera and I don't really want to top mount. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 7. yep! That is the typical way that gear gets sold. Seller sends to rigger, rigger inspects, tells buyer to pay, seller recieves payment, seller informs rigger to release goods. Usually it is shipped to a dropzone. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 10. ..it's not? Damn, that was a fun jump though. I mean we figured we would maybe make it back. The person who posted on here from your DZ is probally a good person to talk to. I have done a bunch of them they are fun. The only thing I want to point out is, sometimes when the winds are high people get a silly idea to do a cross country because we can go farther away. If the winds at ground level aren't something you would want to land in, don't let them talk you into it. At some point you still have to land.
  11. If the reserve is packed well and the rig is sized right the riser covers almost never come open. I almost never have a problem with mine. (Maybe 1 in 500 walks to the plane result in open riser covers) I want a new vector, I guess I will wait to even think about it till I hear about whats new. If everyone waited to purchase, on every rumor of a "new-and-improved" Vector, Relative Workshop would not get any orders, and go out of business...Therefore, no "new-and-improved" rig would ever make it to market. Buy now, so that we may continue to afford the research and testing required to bring any new product to market. Three quarters of the new ideas I come up with don't work out anyway, and are therefore never marketed. So there is no telling when anything really new will appear on my gear. hehe
  12. I will third the "use a dremel tool" advice. I did that when I set up my helmet and have helped a couple other people with it. Hell, its the only thing I have really used my dremel for. It is sitting in my dz locker right now even. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 13. It is made out of a Magnesium alloy. Which makes it pretty light at around 4.4oz (per the stats on BHphoto) The bubble levels can come off too. They used to make a model w/o them, but I don't think they do anymore. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 14. I think it is a little early to make that call. The HC3 has a similar picture size as this camera does and works fine with a wide angle lense. I did notice when using it that I had to be a bit farther back than I am used to, but I could adjust to that and it was only really an issue when the formation I was filming got really long. (I actually slid around to keep the formation lined up with the "widescreen" direction.) Looking at the pictures of the camera, I think most of the wide angle lenses will be able to go on there w/o covering the sensor. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 16. Hey man, forget about what I said. Dont question the AFFI desision. That was a baaaad post from me. Sorry.... Everyone please try to remember that while the an AFFInstructor is there to teach you, they are also there to do thier best to help keep you alive. If the instructor pulled you out there was a good reason for it. With the number of jumps you have, you really shouldn't be asking things on here specific to what you should be doing in the air. At my DZ it is stressed to all the experienced jumpers to not give advice to students. Talk to them, get to know them, but leave the instructing to thier instructor. The same goes doubly so on here. While everyone is good intentioned they don't know why your having the "issue" you are having. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 17. Hi Dusty. From everything I have heard Aerohio is a great dropzone, but really, if you are serious about wanting to skydive you should consider something closer, at least for now. I know a person or two that is from a DZ in michigan, http://www.tecumsehskydiving.com/ that has spoken pretty good about the place. It is only 56 miles from the city listed in your profile and also has a Super Otter for a jumpship. If you don't mind doing the cessna thing (or if you just want to find more DZs) check out this page link Check out this map, much closer than Aerohio I hope this helps you out and maybe helps open that door for you. At around 60 miles to the DZ its going to cost a lot less in gas, take you less time, and be a lot less stressfull. If you start up there as a student you might be able to see about becoming a packer (something a lot of people do to help pay thier way) I don't know how they work packing at that DZ you would have to talk to some people there. Hope it works out for you! p.s. Not trying to take business from Aerohio, I'm not even from that area, I jump in wisconsin. I just want to give this guy all the information so he can get the most out of his dollar when it comes to skydiving. Edit: I noticed in another one of your posts that you asked if AFF lessons "transfer" between dropzones. That is up to the dropzone you are considering moving from. Most places will work with you as best they can. They are also able to call the other dropzone you jumped at and find out a bit about you. It helps big time if you have a logbook. Bottom line is, call the DZ you are thinking about changing to. If you do decide to move to a closer DZ it helps to kinda pick one and stick with it, jumping at a whole bunch of different places is typically not recomended when you are first starting out, though there are some people who have done so. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 21. Hah, yeah. I have missed a few here and there even with my cameye, but normally caught them in freefall. The lack of a lanc port wont stop me from buying one of these if they test well for skydiving. They look pretty small and that is nice. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 22. heh... I was just gonna say that you can get them at a local hardware store for like $0.40 for a pack of 4 but then I realized your in europe. There are some online manufacturers that might be willing to ship overseas if someone has the size info. I forget off the top of my head but can check next time I am out at the DZ. If you google for "Nylon machine screw" you will find some online sellers ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 23. Alternativly, I can add that most of my DZ uses these clicky I haven't seen them mentioned or used at another dz though. No one at my dz has had a problem with it to date and there are people who have been using them for quite a few years. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 24. Looking at the pre-release photos the one thing I don't see is any type of indicator (lanc) port. That is unfortunate. I had the oppertunity to jump with an HC 3 this weekend and I am very much in love with the quality of the video. I just don't know if I would want to put that on the side of my head. This canon looks like it would side mount very well, I will just be nervous w/o a external indicator.... ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 25. The advancements in some gear has improved safety *as measured in fatal accidents*. AADs, 3 ring (long time back), skyhooks potentially. But otoh, the trend towards faster and more responsive canopies is fun but fatal, and the trend towards more compact rigs that hold ever smaller reserves isn't improving safety either. Helmets look better, but offer less impact protection than the old protecs. Other than the Pac, we're not seeing new airplanes and rather are jumping out of increasingly old planes. So what's the message you want to send out? There is the caravan too, of which, at least some of the ones in the skydiving fleet are near to new. If maintained properly planes like anything else mechanical can last a long time. I am pretty perplexed by the decline in the number of people skydiving. We are sure fighting it at my home DZ. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me.
