I love my pro-track. It differs from the neptune in that the Pro-track doesn't function as an altimeter. I've asked people around the DZ about their Neptunes, and I've heard no problems from anyone lately. I'm thinking the battery thing may have been an issue before some of the latest software updates. Keep in mind that even though L&B has really great customer service, Alti-2 does a pretty good job too. does the neptune track altitude in 10's of feet under 1k? or is it just 100's of feet all the way from exit altitude? (does that make sense? sorry if it's unclear...) I think, but I'm not sure... that the viso will track alti in 10's of feet below 1k, is that right? Once in canopy mode the neptune tracks altitude by 10' increments. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. If he can get a better deal on the XF1 isn't that a reason? I was under the impression that there was little difference between the XF2 and the XF1 with the service bulletin mod. I've never jumped a XF2 but then (as far as I know) Derrick has never jumped a XF1. What I have jumped is a XF1 119 (200 jumps) and a Katana 120 (2 jumps) and I didn't notice much of a performance difference between the two. If he can get a better deal sure. Thats not what he was asking though. I am making the assumption that he thinks jumping a XF1 is going to be safer and well, it isn't. From that regard there is no reason to buy a XF1. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Right now I am shooting in RAW+Large trying to work on the settings on my jpgs so they look nicer. Having both to see what the camera is doing in the "post process" department helps futz with the settings. On the digital rebel xt there are "Paramaters" that you can change, including custom settings to mess with the color, saturation, sharpness, etc. If I ever get the jpgs looking right, ill stop shooting in raw. But right now my jpgs are mostly washed out and not turning out how I like them. I just am not a good enough photographer yet. There is a whole lot more picture in a RAW. ~D ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Just buy a XF2. There is no reason to get a XF1. They are ok, but if you get the 1 make sure it had the service bulliten done. I jump a XF2 and to me there is no compelling reason that you should jump a 1 first. Getting a 1 and then a 2 would mostly be a waste of money. As for your other questions, if your getting into swooping the word 'easily' should be taken out of your vocabulary. There is nothing easy or forgiving about swooping. I wouldn't consider either of the canopys docile at 1.4. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. I sure hope not. Every asshole (and I am speaking rhetorically here) that jumps on a little canopy way before they should and pounds in makes our sport look bad. Oh well, like AggieDave, i think that quote about jealousy is great. No, I am not jealous of your little canopy. I can outswoop your ass on my bigger canopy! ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Hi I am glad that you are enjoying posting on dropzone.com. Now on to the real meat of my post. STOP FISHING FOR ANSWERS!!!!!! I garuntee that your going to find someone on here willing to tell you that using a Suunto is acceptable. The problem is that just because some person on the internet says it's ok, that doesn't mean that it is. Most likely that person has one and doesn't know enough about the subject to be making that suggestion in the first place. Suunto's work as ok altimiters if you're an experienced skydiver. 3 people at my DZ use them and I have seen people at other DZs use them. All of these people are D Lic. holders who have MANY MANY more jump than you do. For an inexperienced skydiver something with an easy to read display is better. Bottom line is that skydiving is expensive and you need to be willing to spend some money on it because being cheap can mean that you get killed. What is worth more? Your life or the cost of a decent altimiter? Have fun! ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Is it really necessary the FS1 b4 you freefly?
Fast replied to meistwer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I get pretty frustrated when people are unwilling to learn to belly fly. I mean sure, freeflying is cool. I can do both, and have been spending quite a bit of time learning to freefly, but I was on a 4way team before that, and learned to fly video too! If you are uncapable of being on a basic 8-12 way your going to have problems when special jumps come up. Your going to have problems being part of that cool sunset load or milestone jump. I also don't think you can be a safe flyer if you are not competent on your belly. I think you should have the skills to be apart of a belly jump of equal size as a freefly jump (more complex body positions and much faster speeds). Basically that means if you want to do a 10 way sit/hd jump I think you should have the air skills and awareness to do a basic 10 way belly skydive. I see it with some of the people at my dropzone, they completely skipped RW and went right into FF and when we are putting together sunset loads they get to sit out because of it. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Good editing imo. I think that transitions are overused in general. Most TV / Movies / Whatever uses no transition. Just cuts from one scene to the next. Not to mention the fact that the video work was great so were some of them tandem landings. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. As sad as this statement is, I agree with it. I am sorry that you are not willing to accept that to be a part of skydiving you have to go above and beyond and accept a very high level of risk. Skydiving is not for you. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. What to do for my 100th jump?

I happen to know a person that has made a jump naked at least once a month for a LONG time. If you mess your ears up now your going to be pissed off for the rest of your life. If you miss one weekend of jumping you might be angry for a few days. I have been doing my tandem editing in Premier Pro 2 and have eliminated quite a bit of a time sink by doing the export from Adobe right to DVD mpeg format. I used to download from camera in AVI then output from adobe as avi then have the dvd software encode it to mpeg. Now I am just dumping it right from Adobe to .m2v+wav format and importing that into the dvd burning software which then doesn't have to re-encode it. I saved 15 min off my tandem edit time that way. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. The purist in me thinks that having a setting that auto-changes ISO is overkill in an already over done point and shoot SLR world. I personally can't think of a time where I would want the ISO to change on its own while skydiving or shooting pictures on the street. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me.
