  1. That is my problem. I don't have a helmet suited to top mounting stills and video and I don't really want to change to top mount video full time. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 2. I have to figure out today if I need to do anything for our one person with a WM5 device. Its important given that he is the president of the company. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 3. I'm sure that is coming. You might even be able to hold your breath that long. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Swooping is taking one last poke at the bear before escaping it's cave - davelepka
  4. If you know you were speeding you deserve to pay the fine. Why try to get it out of it when you know you did something wrong? umm..because I didn't want to pay a fine, and pay higher premiums on my insurance since I drive an 06 Mustang..Why pay money when you don't have to? Play to win man. Just cause its the "honorable" thing to do doesn't make it smart. Screw paying tickets. I actually pay mine but I do fight them so they don't show up on my record. I went 3 years w/o getting one then 3 in a 1 month period. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 5. Awesome, what do you mean by "got lucky"? Did you just pick them out of the blue from a phone book, website, ad, friend told you? ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 6. True but that doesn't help DZOs figure out how to get more tandem customers to pay for buildings and planes. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Swooping is taking one last poke at the bear before escaping it's cave - davelepka
  7. I'm not arguing legality. I'm arguing morality. Just because someone can do something, doesn't mean that it's proper that they should, or that we should all do nothing and let them. That's an awfully low standard of acceptance to put on infringements of constitutional rights. I agree. If this is the standard that we are going to start going by in this country then any coalition of companies could overthrow the government just by putting a ban on "X" or don't use our product. Vote George Bush the fifth or you can't buy oil. It is basically the exact same thing as what you are talking about with regards to gun ownership. Both of these are a company infringing on constitutional rights. While some have brought up other companies desire to limit your abilities to do things while away from work, I belive that there are quite a few cases supporting that they don't get away with it. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 8. A lot of the reasons you posted are why I said USPA integration would be nice. The possibilities with this, if designed right, are very huge to skydivers. One thing to keep in mind when reading this is that Matt is developing a new manifest software and I know this is supposed to tie into it. Given what jumprun is like, people will be using his software if it doesn't suck and the price is reasonable. At least most of the big dropzones will be. I can tell you that trying to get meaningfull data out of jumprun is horrible. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 9. To everyone that has replied so far, thank you very much for doing so. Please don't hesitate to chime in just because your answer has already been stated. The reason I am asking about this is because I am trying to figure out the best way to get people interested in a skydiving club I am helping to run.
  10. That is because the USPA database is a joke. For what it is worth, I somewhat like where you are going with this idea. I think you might get more support for it if you do better to integrate with USPA. Though, who knows if they want to get involved. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 12. Just to add, that my team jumps out of a pac and we have been following along with AZAS style exits and have been able to take everything we wanted to out of the pac even at our much lower skill level. When you do get into an otter eventually, it really seems like you have a lot of room to work and everything seems to transfer well. Kirk do you guys use the extra step on the pac? (i would think yes) ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Swooping is taking one last poke at the bear before escaping it's cave - davelepka
  13. Sure but how did you find out where to go? Did you just know the dropzone existed? 14. Sorry. I forgot to include that as a poll option. I don't know how to add it or I would. 15. I know that this thread has done before, but I spent some time searching and couldn't quite find what I was looking for. If you know of the thread please link me to it. In lieu of that lets have a discussion. The primary aim of this thread is at people reading the site who have just started skydiving or people who remember what it is that they wanted when they started skydiving. We have done the "why did you choose this DZ" thread to death but the focus is mostly on experienced jumpers. I am looking for ONLY a student perspective. What made you pick a DZ to go check out. I am not so much interested in what made you keep going there or what you thought after you got there, I think I have a good handle on that. I am looking to know about the process that people went through before the picked a DZ to make thier first tandem. Also, if you are reading this and haven't yet decided where to jump or are working on that process I would love to hear from you too. I am trying to figure out what people want out of this. Most of the people who are going to answer this thread are skydivers, but I want to know what that one time tandem thrill ride person uses to decide where to go. Let me know what you think? I have intentionally made the poll "Select only one option" because I want you to pick the most important thing. I know that many factors go into it but if you had to pick one, what would it be? ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 16. The dz that I belong to and help run is losing a lot of business to skyride. We refuse to take the certificates and another local DZ doesn't. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 17. I doubt the people working for you are representative of the average mall security gaurd in the United States. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Swooping is taking one last poke at the bear before escaping it's cave - davelepka
  18. As much as you are unwilling to accept it your view of the world and stance on that position, at least in this country, is on significant decline and has been for some time. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Swooping is taking one last poke at the bear before escaping it's cave - davelepka
  19. This is the reason I posted the thread in the first place. It isn't so much about having to have ID to enter this specific mall. I am worried about the continuing trend of having to show ID to get into places that you don't own. It goes against what I feel is one of the principles of this country. If you are willing to think outside the lines and look at how this is a growing trend and how it has grown to effect quite a few things in life as of late, it starts to paint a clearer picture. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 20. I set my own brakes mostly because it keeps the lines from getting messy. I don't unstow the slider most of the time or cock the pilot chute. My main packers have somewhat got me in the habbit of doing the slider but if I am in a hurry I don't even think about it which tends to be the case quite often. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 21. That is what is holding me back from buying an HC3. I don't really want to have video and stills up top. In fact, with the helmet I have it wouldn't really work. I very much want HD though. I wish they would make a Pistol style HD camera. If I do end up getting one it will mean that I have to choose between SD+stills or HD. That isn't a bad thing because I think my flying style differs when going for stills vs. video but none the less, it isn't optimal. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 22. I really need to get a flash. I think I could be getting much nicer pictures in questionable light and way better color even in good light if I had one >< ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 23. True but that doesn't matter for tandem students because it is most likely one of the first fisheye pictures they have ever seen of themselves. On the flipside, I try to take pictures that make it hard to notice the fisheye when I am shooting regular skydiving. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 24. Talk about your shitty analogy. Come on people, face it, giving a teenager birth control and saying "I'm not encouraging anything... but if you do have sex, be safe", is more permissive than simply discouraging pre-marital sex. It may be more permissive but it is more benifitial as well. Discouraging it while not permissive in most cases won't change anything. It is going to happen regardless of the fact that you tell them no. Which side of that argument you support your statement doesn't reveal, but the implication and assumption that most people would make is that you do not support the birth control and do support abstinence. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 25. Correct, I wont go to a mall because they card me. *I* haven't done anything wrong and while it may be a businesses right to deny people access to thier property I don't like the way that they are doing it. The underlying issue for me is that it will in turn be used to look for people they think have commited or might commit crimes. The issue for me is that over the last decade or so more and more things are requiring an ID to do. The mentality of having to keep a record of who is doing what and where sits uncomfortably with me. The eventual result is going to be that for everything you do you have to show an ID to prove who you are and that you are not dangerous. This goes against the innocent until proven guilty ideal that this country seemed to be based on in the past. Maybe I just feel like being paranoid today. This speakers corner thing can be addicting. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me.
