I have done a bunch of 8 ways from 2 cessnas and im sure i have qualified on many a skydive at my home DZ. Never bothered to get it though. Not really a big thing where I jump. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. I need something to keep me happy. Here and there I can just go up and "jump" but for the most part I need something to challenge me or my mind. It can seem like the simplest thing, but as long as I have the next hurdle to jump over I keep going strong. Have been held back by physical/medical problems lately and that makes me want to jump even more. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. My grandparents always had hummingbird feeders. They are really cool to watch. It is amazing how they fly. They are extreemly fast. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. What I would like to see is prices on 64-128M cards that are cheap enough that I can just buy 100 and not have to burn CDs for my tandem customers anymore. They can just take it to wallgreens/walmart like they would with film. CDs are nicer, but it is kinda a pita to take the time to burn them. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Good for me because I'm not planning on getting a tandem rating because it just doesn't sit well with me and I don't think I would be good at it. I am loving being a video guy though and I'm pretty good at it to boot. So, I don't like the idea because it would put me out of work and I wouldn't be able to skydive w/o doing something I am not comfortable with (tandems) ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. As scary as that sounds, at some point it may come to something like this. The new sony camera that records to flash cards has optical image stabalization as well. If they stop making the kind of cameras that skydivers want with electronic stabalization it is going to come down to taking the thing apart and modifying it to disable that feature. Which really really sucks. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Cool, have fun with it. I played up till TBC including TBC alpha and beta. Then I got distracted. Just remember to maintain balance. I was really bad at that for awhile which is why I have killed every raid boss up to TBC except for KT. Im working on getting my priest to 70 these days, play a little here and a little there. I mostly go nuts over winter when I don't have any skydiving to fill my time. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. I jump a Vector 3. Mostly because my opinion based on a bunch of stuff I have read and talked to people about is that it is the rig that has the most thought and quality put into it. That and I think supporting Bill Booth is a good idea. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. One thing that you need to realize is that despite what everyone is telling you and what your instructors want you to do (relax) it may not truely happen for awhile. Thats ok though. Don't worry about if you are relaxed enough or not. Just do you best and have fun. Make sure you let your instructors know you are nervous. They see it all the time and its a normal thing to them. The things that tend to get people relaxed are pretty straight forward. Understanding that you are capable of saving yourself is a pretty big one. So if you are pulling on your skydives then that is one thing you can chalk up in the "helping to be relaxed" column. Another thing is being comfortable with the skydive. What I mean by that is knowing what you have to do on the jump and having a reasonable idea of how to do it. Be comfortable knowing what you have to accomplish and trust your instructors to be there to help you along. They are good at what they do! ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Do we know what format the data is stored in if it is recording in standard def? For what it is worth, i was reading on another site that it may have optical image stabalization. Which may make this camera a flop for skydiving. I sure hope everyone doesn't go to optical. Hell we may run out of cameras that we can jump with. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Since this got bumped up, Anyone know what is more effective? Cannulas or masks? Is either one prefered for jumps up to FL18? ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. ...or gear knowledge, or altitude awareness, or plane safety awareness, or ability to function with increased stimulus. Tunnel time is awesome for learning certain skills. Its not equivalent to jump numbers IMO. No but if you take a guy with 5000 jumps and 5000 minutes of tunnel time and compare him to a guy with 10,000 jumps they are going to be at pretty damn similar skill levels. Though the latter might be a bit better under canopy. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. By "storing the data" are you referring to the recording process, or archival data? Because HDD and DVD are great for archives. Sorry, I should have said "recording the data to" My archival process includes DVD-Rs. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. I could care less what we are storing the data too as long as it isn't hard drive or dvd. What I am wondering is if you think we will start to see solid state high-def cameras that are suited to side mounting. (i.e. small) I mean, I could go out and buy an HC5 right now but I don't want to side mount a camera that big. Or do you think they are going to keep on making things in about that size/format, even with the space saving solid state media? ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Raft dive safety - the rope that goes around it
Fast replied to sundevil777's topic in Safety and Training
Good reminder. I can't say I have been on many raft jumps, but we do jump different kinds of inflatable crap. Most of it gets dropped off over the landing area by one of the jumpers riding it. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. To just show up at the DZ and get on a small RW load I said at least 50-75. Thats at least a jump every week. I think if you are skydiving less than that you need to have a decent amount of skill retained already or you need to have special attention on your skydives. I personally am comfortable around the 400 a year mark, but I shoot video, freefly, swoop, do 4-way, zoo loads, etc. I have a lot of skills to maintain and improve. I think any less than that and I wouldn't be comfortable. I have consistantly increased my numbers each year so far. This year I think I will be about the same as last or maybe a little less because im off to a slow start thanks to some shoulder issues. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me.
