  1. Maybe if you took the time to consider that you are on a skydiving site you may have made some kind of inference and given the link a shot. None the less, I don't care if you don't click on it. I did and I thought it was cool. I can't claim to have found this though. I saw it on another website and searched this one to see if it had been posted. I clicked on it with no explanation because it said flight patterns. I thought, "wonder what they are talking about" as I expected most people on this site would do. The bottom line is that your post isn't even a step above mine. If you did click it, thought it was cool too and wanted more people to do the same, then you should have taken the time to say more rather than attempt to belittle me. I personally didn't think a long explanation was warranted and was making the post on my way out of work. I also think it loses some neatness if you know what you are going to see. If you didn't click it and are just intending to be cynical, well, that is kinda sad. I hope that this post was long enough and meets your criteria for what is required. Not trying to be an asshole, I just thought your post was a little rude. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 2. July 13th, 2003. Sky Knights SPC in East Troy, WI. I still jump there. In fact, I am helping to run the dz now and I am a staff jumper. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 4. Around 20 a week. I am jumping 3-4 days every week. I can make more if I just funjump and don't do any work. Cause there is downtime with video, but none the less, I'm happy. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 5. Yeah couldn't agree more. The only thing I don't like about the SDC program is that you have to do a tandem first, though for a lot of people that might be a good thing! ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 6. Well...if it shaves off an hour a day or even less, for the manifestor, or allows the DZ to use one less person behind the counter, a quarter a jump is very cheap. I'd think a sliding scale might be more effective, but either way, it's possible it could save a DZ a lot of money. We recently went to an online res system for our tandems, and it rocks. It saves a tremendous amount of time. Yeah so, at the hourly rate we pay our manifestor / office people it would have to save my small/mid sized DZ 370 hours a year. Considering we are really only open half the year, thats a couple hours a day. I don't see this or any software doing that. From the start I have really liked the idea behind this software. An integrated system that works well. I think the cost is out of hand though. For my DZ, the yearly cost would be around $3000 not including the set up cost. As a skydiver, I don't know that I am happy to know that a quarter out of my pocket for every jump from now untill the end of time would be going to a software developer. I would much rather see that quarter go somewhere else like facilities, maintence, cheaper jumps, cooler planes, anything. There is the argument that this will help bring in more tandems, but I think there are cheaper ways to accomplish that. I envision this software being out of reach for 95% of dropzones. I have only seen screenshots but it doesn't look that user friendly yet. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 8. I am absolutely not convinced of what you are saying. The Italian Swoop Tour has purchased and uses a super efficient system that has been tested in all conditions and speeds. I personally used it when testing skies as a downhill competitor and it never has failed once. It has a smal portable computer that registers and prints all sort of data. The sensors can be set at 15 metres but there is also a model that goes up to 30 metres apart. The system btw is wireless. Check the web site www.microgate.it 4000$ Just the photoelectric eye can be something like this I would think. Clicky That sensor per the fact sheet has a 2ms detection time at distances up to 500ft apart. That is two thousands of a second. I know, not quite 1ms, but... who knows. Allen bradley also makes a sensor that can be up to 10m apart that has a response time of 900µ seconds. Which is just under 1/1000th of a second. You can order it right from thier website too. All of the other stuff is just a problem of knowing some basic electronics. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 10. I play with all the settings. I set ISO between 100 and 400 depending on the ambient light. I will play with different shutter speeds in Tv mode most of the time, but I am starting to experiment more. I really want a flash or something for better sunset pictures and days with high overcast. Attached is the last jump of the weekend this weekend. I was not really happy at all with how the pictures turned out. They were way too blurry cause I couldn't get a deep enough depth of field and I just wasn't getting the apeture i wanted. This picture was ISO 400, f/5, 1/320. I use a sigma 15mm and it was set for infinity focus around f/5-f/8. I have been considering playing with auto focus but I get kinda scared by that. Maybe I should give it a try here and there and the loads where I know light and focus are going to be a big problem. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 11. We used to do the stick on labels. We were getting quite a few complaints about DVDs not working. This year we changed over to pre-printed discs that we bought from a CD duplicator/printer. We haven't really had any complaints about that this year. They also look a whole lot better. The company we used was Proaction Media. The "digital print" they sell is a label. If you get the TruPhoto it is printing on the disc (if i remember right.) There are a bunch of companies that do this kind of work though. I attached what our DVD looks like. The pictures and composition are all my work. (my attaching this doesn't give permision to use it ) ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 13. It is a dust or moisture spot on the sensor. You might try calling any camera shops in your area. Diablopilot is right you can buy the stuff and clean it yourself too. For me, I chose the camera shop method. It is easy to screw up the cleaning and I would rather have someone who does a couple hundred of them a month do it than me, who does maybe one a month. The camera shop by me only charges $10 to clean a sensor. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 14. I learned to swoop on a Saber 150. Loaded about 1.3 and spent quite a good period of time with that canopy. It was a loaner from a good friend of mine who has progressed pretty damn well in the swooping arena. He learned on the same canopy. There are a lot of foundational things you can learn and should learn on a canopy that has a positive recovery arc. It will save your ass when you do mess up and you will. I think your purpose would be served by going to a more agressive wingloading rather than a more agressive canopy type. Honestly, I was jumping around 1.3 (saber2 170) by jump 20ish. I kept that wingloading on through jump ~300. After that I jumped the saber150 through like jump 800 and learned a lot. I jump a Xfire2 now and like it mostly cause of the openings but another 500 odd jumps has made me itchy to go much smaller. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 15. oooohhhh..... I must find one of those! Yeah, they fire at a lot slower decent rate than a cypress too. 16. 1. Haven't had the time yet - 2. I am trying, but I have mostly been doing tandem video so I haven't been getting a ton of cool pictures. 3. Not going to happen. 4. This one I feel pretty confident about. I have been doing air skills work and ground skills work with an AFF I/E all summer. I paid for my course, just need to not fuck up. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 17. Amy Chmelecki will be in town this weekend to help people work on thier freeflying skills. She will be able with work with people of all levels. There is no cost for this event other than your own slot on the plane. It should be a good time and I expect that everyone will learn quite a bit from her. July 14th and 15th at Sky Knights, in East Troy, WI. Questions, comments, coming out? PM me. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 18. I have seen it. I thought the movie did a great job of portraying what keeps humanity in check and how the world could be affected if people didn't care at all about the future. Seeing it in the theater I was quite moved by it. The whole thing was put together really well. They might have done a better job explaining things, but I have to wonder if they didn't purposfully leave it to the viewer to fill in the blanks based on thier own life experience. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 19. I have gaffers on my Sigma 15mm to hold the focus in place. To be perfectly honest with you, if I cared about it more, I wouldn't take the thing skydiving. I guess I don't really though. Many times over I have earned back the cost of the lense. (and my whole helmet really) Here is another cool shot I took with it just to spice up the thread. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 22. Right there with ya! I have had some close calls skydiving, but I was a passenger in a car during a head on collision, both cars doing 60mph. No seatbelt. All 4 in the car lived.
