I seem to remember seeing pictures of signs in the 1920 that said Help Wanted...Irish Need NOT Apply. Funny how we forget. Did my grandparents (off the boat from Ireland get compensation???? NO. Did my Grandparents WANT compensation??? NO. It's called pride and a good work ethic. ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty

So sucking at packing is normal at first, right?

That is a lame excuse..... Come on. It is a parachute..it wants to open. That's its job!!!!!! My last pack job was shit!!! I was in a rush, and I stopped right before getting on the plane and said to myself... "You shouldn't jump that pack". I thought some more and reminded myself that it would open because it wants to open. I pulled a bit higher than normal, but sure enough it opened.. a bit off heading, but other than that it was fine. So long as you keep the lines in front of you, and quarter the slider... It will most likely open. Besides, you have to learn to trust yourself in this sport.... ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty -
The problem with the current society of America is that there is no accoutability instead just excuses and laziness...this goes for everyone. In order to succeed you need to work and be motivated. You need to overcome hurdles in your life and move on. Using the past (slavery) as an excuse as to why you are not successful is ignorant!!!!! We all have the power to overcome the challenges we face in life no matter where you are from. This country was founded on hard work and struggle, not lame bullshit excuses and government bailouts... IMHO we should do away with wellfare as well for the same reasons. Chris ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty

I too had many problems as a kid with my ears. Now, I still have some issues, especially in cold weather. Through my short experience in jumping there are a couple things I have noticed. 1) The more often you jump, the less the ears will bother you. 2) Jumping while congested is a VERY bad idea. It is true. My first jump was quite painful, and I couldn't hear good for days. After my second jump my ears didn't hurt much, and recovery time for my hearing was about 1 day. After my 3rd I forgot my ears used to be a problem. However, Recently I hadn't jumped in over a month, plus I was getting over a cold. Sure enough I jumped and was in a great deal of pain under canopy. Once I cleared my ears though I was fine. I think going up in altitude opens the ear cannals a bit and allows fluid to flow behind the ear. Rapid pressurazation can trap that fluid and cause pain and muffled sound. Eventually the fluid is absorbed, flows back out or causes an infection. Take some suddefed (Never on jump days) and wait it out. I think you will find that if you jump within the next 30 days your ears won't be as bad. If you stay current I think you will find they get better and better the more you jump. I always wondered why the instructors never told any of the students at my DZ about the ear problem, but I suspect it is because it has been a while since they experienced it themselves. I wouldn't make up the numbers, the truth is my snivel is huge. I too invite you to film it. My average snivel is 900-1100 feet. My largest was 1500 ft. My shortest 400ft (sloppy pack job by me). I know what you mean about wave and pull times. This is how I determine my distance. Wave off, and as I reach for the hackey, my arm is in front of my face. I try to catch the last reading on my altimeter before the bag sits me up and my arm moves down to my side. I usually count in my head 4 secs before I check my alti first then my chute. I'll be the first to admit that counting to 4 is not an accurate time keeping... I could be counting fast or slow, I have no idea, but it is my routine. Once I see the altimeter and i know I am above 3K I then watch the chute open. From that point it is in most cases about 3-6. I am usually givving the front risers a tug. Typically the chute then pops open and surges down real briefly. I check the alti before the control check to see where I am reletive to my hard deck. When determining the snivel of the chute I take the last reading I saw right at deployment minus when I next look. I usually will knock off a hundred feet or so figuring it took a couple seconds after the downward surge before I checked. Ask my friends who have deployed more than 500 ft below me and watched me snivel to about 200 ft below them. Reasons for this??? Big Slider and Brand new thick lines. Does it frighten me???? Yes, well it did for the first 5 jumps on it. I have become somewhat used to it, but I follow these simple RULES: 1: Don't go low. Pull at or before 3800 ft. 2: Let everyone on the load know what I am pulling at and that i will snivel down. 3: Below 1500ft go to silver if I have an emergency which requires me to go low. 4: (Most important) Have a hard deck and stick to it. I am new in the sport and my hard deck is 2Kft. That means at 2Kft if that bad larry ain't open, I am getting rid of it. I haven't had to do that yet because I have always followed rule 1. I will continue to follow rule 1 and will hopefully never have to chop for a low sniveling chute. Zimmer is a pussy... crying like a little bitch.. If it bothered you sooo much you fat bastard then maybe you shouldn't have charged. I am so sick of F'ing NY sports radio defending Zim and Putting down Pedro. They keep saying Zim did it in the "Heat of the Moment" But Pedro didn't have to throw him down etc... Did anyone ever think Pedro threw him down in "The Heat of the Moment?" If Pedro didn't do anything, and ZIM made contact with Pedro's face... Trust me, 35,000 Fans would have rushed the field and killed Zim and maybe half of the other SPANKEE'S on the field. I would have paid to see that though ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty

Pedro had every right to BEAT Zim down and he didn't. People in NY are calling Pedro a Monster etc... I saw it too... Zimmer went after pEDRO RIGHT? pEDRO DID NOT punch him, he deflected him to the side. I say Fuck the old man. (not literally) Don't feel bad for Zim. If he had a heart attack and croaked right there on the field he wouldn't get my sympathy. If your gonna play with fire... you may get burned. ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty

Here Here!!!! Truthfully, I think it will pretty good for Cali to have someone that ISN'T wrapped up in the politics of everything. If I had lived in MN, I would have voted for Ventura too. If Arnold can get rid of the Special interest shitheads in Cali, then I think he has done his job. My opinion. But hey, I live in NY and for the most part care not what happens on the left coast. Except skydiving stuff of course. ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty

Well, Fuck New York... go RED SOX. But any way it is true. In Downtown Crossing Boston Just outside of a Macy's Store I believe there is a round Brass circular compass which is the Geographical center of the Universe. 10 or 11 weeks ago when davis realized the recall was going to happen, he decided it would be prudent to start to appoint some Judgeships in California. It is not surprising since most Gov'ners do it, as do many presidents before they leave office. However, there is some point at which it becomes obvious that there is more going on than just appointing a few of your lawyer friends to Judgships. So my question to you is, In the past 11 weeks, how many judgeships has Gov. Davis appointed in the state of California (Your best guess)? ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty

Jump number 8, lifted my legs on landing and flared my fists into the ground. Broke my right wrist and still have ligament damage in the left.
