  1. I have the same situation. I have some slack on my brakes. I cant stall my canopy: I can fly 20+ seconds in full brakes without stall. I think its no point to make my brakes shorter, because I pull some brakes if I pull my front risers deeply. I'm satisfied with my flare power. Remember, flare is not just brake position...it has other factors too: speed and angle of attack. If I want to a softer landing I should use less last minute input on brakes and let it fly.
  2. I've asked one jumper, he is not a rigger, but packing reserves. He has told me that not legal in Finland because of some old fatality.....and also mentioned fast and hard opening. Anyway, I've just seen a freebag, so velcro and lines can be kept away.
  3. I've just packed a Manta and it had 9 cells, strange
  4. I've checked. I can see my handes. Z1 + VectorII + me
  5. What is the downside of that design? It looks perfect for me after replacing velcro with tuck tubs.
  6. Ah, I don't pack reserves, just jump them :). Isn't there any issue that lines are free and not slowed down like with those rubber bands?
  7. I was thinking about those lines, but I didn't who to quote.
  8. How do you organize lines in that pocket?
  9. So, Now you know why stable pull is important.
  10. I use BOC on my own gear. I had jumps with a MTC-2. It has reserve ripcord on the left, cut-away handle on the right (yellow tube) and main ripcord next to it. I had a dozen practice EP and pull before I have jumped that. It was an issue not just find, but pull the right one: ripcord and not cut-away, because those were next to each other.
  11. Thanks for your concern. I've used them from terminal and non-terminal velocity too. I think I might know where they are.
  12. IMHO the brand is one variable of the equation.
  13. Keep it simple! Do your EP on the ground and/or in the air. Anyway I would not even touch those midair if they are in place. I consider them as a handgun don't touch or don't take them out unless you do use it.
  14. It can block the view of your altimeter if you mount it in the center of the chest strap.
  15. Once a cat victimized my shoes, I should admit they were really smelly.
  16. First of all why in Gear and Rigging and not in S & T ?
  17. Thanks. It was a planned water jump. I had a wet diver suit as a floating device, no shoes at all.
  18. Yeah, thanks. I've read that everywhere. Why is it recommended to cut away? I love those snap on the military gear. It can be opened in 2 seconds.
  19. Hi, I had a water in last Saturday. I've used a MTC-2 (F111, ~320sqft). Wind was about 3m/s. I had no flotation device, I've used a wet suit. I've jumped into a lake approx. 500m from the shore. It's a (ex)military rig with some kind of snaps and a kind of belt too. After opening I've opened the belt and the chest strap. I've "landed" into the wind and flared too. The main has drop behind me.It took about 3 seconds to open the leg straps and max. 10 sec. to leave the harness. 2-3 cells of the main remained inflated and pulling slowly backwards. In general the gear was floating. My crew has reached me in half a minute with a boat. What is the advantage of cutting away before hitting the water?
  20. What is the advantage of this design? What can be used instead ? Tuck tabs?
  21. From the manual of PV Cayanne and Demon: --- Introductory Jumps On your first jump with your new canopy – please do not go to terminal! We recommend making a 3-sec. delay (because a subterminal opening will stretch fabric and lines symmetrically). Also, pulling at a higher altitude will give you more time to become familiar with your new canopy. --- They are really cheap, less than 1000 Euro. I suspect some material issue...
