  1. yup, I was x-keys yesterday and they said the planes are going to sussex tomorrow morn 12/4. A whole bunch closer for us up north. The forecast looks pretty uh good..(fingers crossed)
  2. ***I don't know what happenend to the idea of the skydiving museum, but it will be greta if you could donated to the museum. Museum's are for pioneers and personal achievments and that is exactly where your name belongs. As for you donating your log books, I think that is a great idea because once a museum is created your books "WILL"eventually end up there. And as for the memories, I am sure there isnt a skygod or a whuffo on this planet that can take them from your heart brother. I again would like to extend my hand to you and say Thank you. Larry
  3. ***It's a weird sight following the interstate highway below and seeing that you're going faster than some of the cars on it! I heard this at the DZ this summer about a group that got out about 9 miles from the DZ and were wizzing past cars on the Long Island Expy. WHOA, that takes a mighty big speed bag for that. LMAO
  4. Hi Mike, I just got a dvd called freefall extreme and it covers freefly, crw, swooping, base and some history as to some of the pioneers, inventors or inovaters and much to my surprise "Leonardo DaVinci" had made a prototype of an inverted triangular parachute??? There is also a frenchman who jumped off the eiffel tower with a huge body suit thinking it would inflate "NOT". this was back 60 or 70 yrs ago. The black & white video of the frenchman with the "suit" is a little tragic but also a little funny. All in all it's a great video.
  5. Yeah Willie drove out in his RV sometime in september. A bunch of us are going to Eloy late Feb early March to see him and to skydive of coarse. Yeah I hope he comes back also, but if the work is better there we all wish him the best
  6. *** Ron -- Why the emphasis on the waiver? That may be relevant from a DZ liability standpoint, but it does nothing to prevent someone from doing something stupid. I think the thread was motivated by a desire to protect the jumper, not the DZ. Without commenting on this specific situation -- which I'm not qualified to judge -- I like the idea that people who care about me will let me know when I'm making poor choices. I think you need to read between his lines. It's disgusts with ignorance
  7. what a great idea!! where did you got that done??
  8. Welcome to skydiving (your new vice), if you go to Eloy say Hello to Willie T (the barefoot video guy). He is good people. Larry (fingers) Skydive Long island
  9. [qStupides thing I ever did had nothing to do with skydiving. I turned down a professorship at Yale! uote] ditto!! don't go there otherwise this thread would turn into 100,000 posts
  10. Jump#50, first jump on my new rig. Open door and Mr Dickhead (me) gets out. I get out on my back as normal to watch the rest get out and the guy after me is looking out and down to me with arms out as if to say "what the f$%^ are you doing, I flip back to my belly to see the drop zone which has 2 10,000' runways about 2 miles away. How in the hell does someone miss a drop zone that can land 747's. It's easy if you dont watch the spot. The next few days everyone wanted to know if I brought my compass for the next jump. DOH!!!
  11. *** Mike- I do agree you on this one. Given the industry that this is in, it's very small. People in general think that skydivers are nutzoids anyway and aren't coherent enough to look into the business practices. What hurts the image is the inside looking out (skydivers looking at skyride) and the misleading practices that skyride practices. This hurts the industry as a whole in the long run. From the outside looking in, the skyride customer may not ever be the wiser of the inner workings of the business and it's true business practices of blatently providing misinformation to make a sale. btw, personal experience: Ring, Ring Me: I'm looking to buy a tandem gift certificate, what is my nearest DZ? Skyride: Let me see, well, there is this one and this one. Those are the closest centers to you. Me: Ouch, one is 2 hours away and the other 3. What about that DZ that's 'here' (read 30 minutes from me). Skyride: Let me check. ---hold white noise--- Skyride: There used to be a DZ there but someone died last year. The were involved in a lawsuit which they lost and then closed. Me: Really? I just got off the phone with them to see what their prices were. Skyride: Well, we're not sure who you talked to but be careful, as there is not a DZ in (xyz city) anymore. Me: OK. Thanks for the info, I'll get back to you. Skyride: Thanks for calling skyride... Read this twice Benny... if you need to
  12. You gotta work when you dont have that relative air. As a newbie as yourself it's becomes work instead of fun, but then once it's all said and done and you did it... Then it's cool.. But it is much differenet from a H&P. I did a helo jump in my 50ish and did some serious "flaling" after that "step" off. I can say one thing as a new jumper "this keeps you on your toes or "belly"). Ps: yes it was a ton of fun
  13. Skydive Long island (30 minutes) in the off season then crosskeys (2/12 hrs) or the rancch (2/12 hrs)
  14. Great post Wendy, I did the same thing on my 25th jump (object fixation). I set my approach and was blown a little to one side and now headed towards the wind sock. I could hear the voices "NO LOW TURNS" ever. So I re-evaluated my situation and flared just before and it gave me enough lift to go over it, then had to plf. A braked (flat) turn would have prevented this but it's not discussed in AFF, which I understand because so much is being thrown @ a student. Anyway getting back to your post... should an AFF student be taught flat turns??? or should we learn it later?? HMMMM
  15. Can a cypress recalibrate it self in freefall. If so this is a much more soficticated device that I thought it was. HMMM
  16. I think desire and frame of mind play a huge role in a person's ability to perform in this sport (which doesnt require agility) but requires controlled relaxed thinking therefore out of shape people can do this just as well as the fine tuned body. It's all upstairs. My .02
  17. WHOA, If that is accurrate even to some degree, that means "we" are radical. Well so be it, We are carzy but "NOT" stupid . Come on people, get busy having a life.
  18. I called them on Staurday 11/20 to inquire about a skydive in close proximinity to where I live (Long Island NY) and was told that DZ's dont exist on Long Island because of high winds and "Thermals" and I wouold have to travel to a DZ about 2 hrs west of Philly in order to do a skydive. This is hands down total misrepretation, rather than "we are not affiliated with this DZ". This is a bunch of bullshit. **** For every click on there web site it cost them $2.13, so lets do it and clicky them into default.
  19. Sorry for your loss Mark. I dont know you or Erich but still would like extend my hand to you and a hug. Be well, Larry
  20. ***(probably got sued for renting dodgy gear I hope you have something to back up your post, if not?? this is serious accusation. I have never jumped Sebastion but many of my friends have. If you are annoyed at the rental prices, buy your own. loose lips sink big ships
  21. ***I am looking to finish AFF in January but currently am trying to make the state rowing team. There ia always a chance of injury regardless of your canopy. How bad do you want that slot on the rowing team?? HMMMM
  22. ***where do you jump? skydive igloo? LMAO
  23. welcome to skydiving, By the looks of your photo, your hooked brother. Good choice, and the people in this sport enhances the addiction. lotsa blue skies and be safe.
