firstime replied to tdog's topic in Safety and Training
This forum is a great place to talk about different scenarios, from gear, altitude awareness, docking, canopy cont6rol and last but least the final flare. Who gives a flying horny toad what you do with your $95 handles. Jesus M^&* & Jo^^^ -

Decision Altitude For Landing Out??
firstime replied to sabr190's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have landed off quite a few times in my short time and this is a tough question.... Too many varibles I once made my decision @ 3K, 2K and 1K. The spot winds and even heavy traffic that I was not comfortable with. I make my decision anywhere from freefall on down when I know I can make it somewhere safe???? -
welcome to a sport that will change how you think. The comradrie (spelling) is similiar to firefighters. I would like to give you a high five and enjoy, be smart and listen..listen..listen. Hey, get a group from your firehouse together and get a free jump.. You guys (firemen) are the best when it comes to doing crazy stuff. Good luck & be safe

Good point, I would like to add that these forums are an important source of info for our whole group. I would REALLY love to think that no one takes the advice from here right to "the door". When I read from these forums it gives me an intelligent and informed way to be inquisitive. I have gained quite a bit of knowledge here (with confirmation) from the instructors at my DZ. And the RSL issue...I am not going there. 50/50

sounds like a great video but a mal is only one dimension when you look up

I want to hear your sucess story!
firstime replied to GravityGirl's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
level 5 ( AFF) I reached back to deploy and did not put my left hand above my head hence I was on my back. My thought was to get stable (belly to earth). I arched my ass in half to no avail, I lost the thought process but I went to stage II all in about 5 seconds. At that point all I could hear was just pull when in doubt. I then dumped while on my back and expecting the worse. I had a line twist right to the slider (a whole bunch) and then started to kick as if you are a swing set. It worked and was sitting in comfortable sadle @ 2K . Thank you Nikki,Army Mike, Guy, Tom Buch. I will hear those voices for the rest of my life -
Thanks for your speedy reply. I guess that knocked the hell out of that conversation!!!

You all, kelp, slot, crutch and Dave are doing exactly what these posts are all all about. You cant change the whole system with your posts here. But you can make an educated scenario with your experience. And yes "most" of us always listen or should I say "read" with an inquisivitive ear. Don't get frustrated with the sport in a whole because you can't stop the one who wants to woo the spectators. I can say one thing that no one can argue " this forum has saved at LEAST one ass" I would like to think that those 2% would read (with interest) these forums not once but twice. Keep up the good work guys. Been there and done that beats any book.

Who Are Your Skydiving Heroes/Mentors?
firstime replied to skykittykat's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
for now I would have to go with Nikkie from the Ranch only because she had a way of the "relax" thing. I am sure I will add to the list once I get more air time. -
QuoteBut aren't we trained to keep both hands on ONE handle at a time, rather than one on each, thus preventing an out of sequence rip? Good point!! I think it was designed so that a student would not pull the wrong handle. I have since put into musle memory the two hand technique... why because thats all I see everywhere I go, on the plane on the ground and even after the sunset load. IMO it made it easier for me, but the bottom line is pull the silver with your left, right even your foot if it works.

I had the same problem with my sabre 2 190. I didnt think it was body position until I got a video. And low and behold, body straight & feet together. It did the trick

I think it's 2 degrees per 1000' that you lose. I am in NY , there is a couple of DZ's open all year so I will try to do a couple of jumps a month to stay somewhat current

[rThough i agree insuring a rig is a good idea, i fail to see how it would help in this matter. Dusty sent the rig to someone and the person just never paid for it. My insurance wouldn't cover that. eply] Not true, a personal article policy is an "all" peril type which means, if I lose it, os even misplace it. Even if my cypress gets wet and ruined. ANYthing other than intentional is covered. The above is considered theft

same as Mouth. State Farm personal article policy.

***1) no money and 2) whuffo husband who isn't thrilled about the idea of me making a habit out of jumping out of airplanes. 1) no help 2) divorce him all kidding aside, enjoy and hold the happy medium

***I think it is a shame that our decisions are guided by fear of a court room. I realize that is the reality of our world, it just seems that common sense should prevail at some point in time ditto

too many varibles to answer that question and not enough jumps under my belt. I have seen and always do see jumpers do toggle turns or front riser turns at about 1000' and be on the ground in 5 or so seconds. Some of these guys just hover over the DZ and BLAM they are on the ground (lightly on their feet)

Insure it.. It cost me $117.00 per year for $6000.00 of stuff. Container, main, reserve, cypress, helmut, alti audible, jumpsuit. Sorry to hear about your stuff bro but next time "insure it" it's approx $2.50 per $100. That is for a sport rig... a professional (make a living with it) is $5.00 per $100.

***it only takes one jump to be a skydiver ditto

The smart thing I did was to start this sport @ 45yrs old. If I had started in my 20's I would be either famous or dead,... most likely dead. I was a daring moron in my 20's, thats why age is not such a bad thing.... Now I am a wussy and content with my 190

Thanks Scott, I am going on $$$ frenzy. Oh shoot, is Christmas in a month or so???
