  1. I have a differnt view, My first skydive was at the Ranch and they give that coupon for a free drink @ Bensons. I drank 5 vodka's and didnt even feel the effects of those drinks, normally I would be doing the ole 3 steps foward & 2 back. I got home and had 2 more drinks, went to bed about 11 ish and when I woke up, I felt like it was the 70's hangover. My thought was that one would have to tame the adreneline with booze??? must be different with other ppl. PS I dont drink anymore...... yeah like a fat lady dont fart
  2. Hi Bill, Got your PM, hey all you skydivers should move to NY, other than self inficticed injury all is covered. Maybe they should exclude auto injuries and slip and falls within your own abode or cutting your your hand while washing a glass. I think everyone needs to read the fine print as it is always ambiguous to make one think that certaain avocations are not covered. Insurance co's are pro's when it comes to bullshit propaganda. Read your policy twice and reread it very slow and I think most will be very surprised as to the outcome of your findings.
  3. I think Riggerrob just knocked the hell out of this conversation. I did my home work therefore "great post Rob"
  4. I stand corrected, $8 a jump & Vodka cheaper than beer..... yes indeedy
  5. Do a coach jump (release). If your concerned why take the chance, you want to be confident and that is a big plus. If you F$#k today you will not be jumping tomorrow. A little food for thought
  6. our DZ does $16 jumps on Wed & Fri & the other days I will fly to Russia for the cheaper ones. All kidding aside it's pretty much relative from State to state. Weekends are from $18 to $21 to 13500
  7. I originally posted this question as a real concern because of some of the things I have read or heard. I DO respect the advice that I get from my fellow skydivers but it's always a little comforting to hear from 100's or 1000's of other's. The answers I recieved were not something I already knew the answer to. If I offended mattjw, I am sorry. The answers that most gave me were invaluable because you have been there and done that. My inquiry was genuine and if your advice (the forum) could avoid just one incident; "thumbs up brother" thats why we are here for each other. Your the best, Blue skies
  8. the colorful nicks on my helmut could'nt have been, but kcocking on Murphy's head, none to date.
  9. ***if you want to cause a line-twist induced cutaway then stall your Sabre2 and let go of one toggle Was not my intention, read the question again
  10. I fly a sabre 2 190, wind load 1:1, if I bury one toggle and hold it for about 10 seconds could this induce a line twist. I am sure if I let up on one and buried the other this could happen???? I know that the larger canopies are more forgiving but there must be a threshold. I would like to try this up high 4k, but would like a little input. There are alot of talented pilots out there and i would be glad to sign a disclaimer just for your opinion.
  11. welcome to skydiving, your first jump has changed your life forever. I am fortunate that I am no longer married (not from skydiving, but would have been) kids are adults, no more mortgage. Just be careful about alientating your wuffo friends because they are a big asset. Each and every jump becomes more & more exciting as you learn. You are not alone in what your feeling . IMHO tandems are a great tool prior AFF, yeah sleep depravation is one the common symptoms, check book IMbalance also can give you the jitters, etc...etc...etc.. Be smart , safe & enjoy a sport 2nd to none
  12. Sometimes slowing down for safety is not a bad thing I have read this statement and heard it said quite a few times and it's good advice. I have not been in this scenario to date but will remember the importance of "the panic mode" I have made it muscle memory. Thanks for the wake up call John..
  13. pick up Tom's book "skydiving made fun and easy" I have read it and it will answer alot of your questions
  14. You should talk to Tom Buchanan from the Ranch. He is a text book on just about anything in this sport
  15. all of my aff landings were good stand ups and the two perfect ones were when I landed off ( yeah I know what everyone is saying) I have to find that guy who was BBQ'ing the day I dropped in. Anyway my landings got terrible after off student status. After 20 jumps of wiping grass stains off of my forehead I went back to student basics, took the Scott Miller course and now landing much better. When my landings were bad,... in some respect it was funny seeing that big ball of dust, ass over tee kettle. It then occured to me I was on borrowed time for an injury, thanks to Dunk SDLI. Landings are a piece of cake if you LISTEN, and then listen again. Just by your post, I am pretty sure you will be fine.
  16. another good tip>>>> If the little freakin new zp doesnt want to go in the bag, cut the damn thing in half. Thats what I felt like doing at one time and could not believe the profanities I was calling this inanimate object.
  17. I am in the Ins biz and have had high school kids cal me for doing a paper regarding biz Ins. The Lloyds will insure just about any risk. Write or email them as a perspective DZ owner and you should get a response. If ins were required I am am sure Tandems would be approx $500 per jump. Then we as skydivers would be non exisitant.
  18. our DZ shows the price with "NO HIDDEN FEES" thats In my view the way it should be
  19. I am certaintly aware ppl w/87 jumps dont & should not do big ways. My post was to commend those who do. I was invited, but insisted that I break @ 6k rather than 4k to leave myself a bigger margin of error. I didnt do all that bad, I docked on a 3 way and waited for the rest but waved goodbye because it was taking too much time (for me). I will do some 2,3 & 4's for the rest of this season and just read about the biggies rather than participate.
  20. " Guns Kill People" Yeah!!! just like a spoon made Rosie O'donnel FAT.
  21. congrats, You have to to geek the camera guy on your next jump on your back when you get out, and give the camera somthing to laugh about, then flip over and enjoy the skydive.
  22. I was involved with my first(beer) 8 way this weekend We did some dirt dives again and again. We had it down to a "T". We get the green light and out we go... people all over the sky... End result was a 4 way and 4 one ways. This jump was a "big" way for me. Once we got down and talked about the dive. I then thought about the real "BIG" ways that we read about. At that point, I thought about these "real" big ways. The people that do these 100, 200 and 300 ways have a talent and expertise 2nd to none. It's not finding the slot that made me think about the complexity of the dive but the break off was what put me into the intense thought mode. Therefore I must give anyone out there who does big ways a super double thumbs up. We are crazy but NOT stupid
  23. The scuffs on my helmut should have been, but none to date and would not EVER say never, because that sneaky little Mother F%%^&*r "Murphy pops up when one says the wrong thing. safe jumps always, Larry
