Congrats on not giving up, which is exactly what 90+% of the people would of done (my opinion, no stats) Now, have some fun, be safe! -
AFF or Static line...which is the best?
StevePhelps replied to Testikjel's topic in Safety and Training
my $.02 worth. I started IAD. Did two jumps, then 3 practice pulls, 2 or 3 Clear and Pulls, then went to 10 second delays. I flailed a bit on the first one, repeated and did second one fair (potato chipped a bit) then did one more and went on back after 7 seconds. i was ready to quit as I had nothing to prove - After all I had all ready made 50+ military jumps. A friend suggested I switch DZ (to his) and go through AFF. I passed all levels quickly. I needed the hands on instruction (I'm a kinestetic leaner) They are all good ... static, IAD, AFF, but AFF worked the best for ME! -
Gee Kris, I don't remember you EVER walking back with me!? But I still like ya man! Come over to Skiatook and jump with one of your old students sometime!
-
I "THINK" Lloyd will be open Friday -- You can call 918.396.7855 to be sure.

Welcome to my world. My home DZ is SkydiveAirtight 15 miles north of Tulsa in the town of Skiatook. Give Lloyd a call 918.396.7855. If you want to jump during the week call me 918.740.7724 (ask for Steve). Maybe we can get another and make a load, otherwise see you on the weekend!

Anybody ever had success in making a D Box?

He's talking about your pictures of tandems and static line jumps. -
Ah Shrew, I'm not PO at you. I just don't like assumptions in ANYTHING. You know, like when Dusty Baker (then mgr of SF Giants) said white guys quit when it gets hot in baseball, but blacks and hispanics don't. I'm sure he's seen enough to make him believe that, just as you have seen enough old foggies get "panicky". It just rubs me the wrong way when we lump people together as groups and judge them unfairly. I've seen people lump bikers, skydivers and others as bad breeds because they have seen the 1%ers. Oh well, off my soap box. No hard feelings. I just wish you'd take the time to realize that its not accurate to say what you said. Have a great day and may your skies always be blue! the old fart

Painted 1500 years after Christ using either a woman or feminine looking man as a model and that means what?
-
Since I have scuba dived and jumped since I was 22 (I'm now 48) I have the experience to say your observation that older people are a lot more "panicky" is whacked. You on the other hand, have made your observation over a period of what time? A few months? a year or two? Come one, give me a break. Your original statement that older people are more panicky than younger ones is just is just what I said it was ... "idiotic". Funny, I doubt you'll be convinced you may have judged too hastely. You appear to know it all way too soon.
-
What an idiotic statement! One made from your vast experience I assume. I assume that you're feeling pissed because you are one of the "older" ones? It's an idiotic statement to call that an idiotic statement. Say whatever you may, in sports like skydiving or e.g. scuba diving, wind surfing, etc., the younger ones learn to relax and move around a lot faster. I'm sure there are exceptions, but they are just that, exceptions. Now do you really need "experience" to observe that? BTW panicky is in quoetes for lack of another word that fits. Lets unrelaxed. you ASS U ME too much! LOL!
-
for THAT you'd have to pay ME! ROFLOL

artificial lens due to cataracta and skydiving
StevePhelps replied to Unutsch's topic in Safety and Training
My .02 worth. This summer I had a central retinal vein blockage in my left eye. The result being my vision in that eye is greatly diminished. 20/200 or so. I do not fit the profile for such medical condition: diabetes, hypertension, etc.. I am an anomoly (I always knew that!) I inquired if I could continue to skydive and scuba dive. Initially he said yes. However, when I asked him about going to Cozumel and diving he said he would not recommend it. I have not asked him about my weekly skydives again. Thankfully, I have suffered no additional problems. Nt sure how I would cope if skydiving was ruled out. -
Seems to me that "Bigun" told you what it was right off the bat. How did you miss that?
-
If you were to look at PARACHUTIST magazine (granted these are NOT ALL the injuries, just the reported ones) You'll see how few there are in the estimated many thousands of jump made every month. Take away the swooping and high performance turns accidents and the numbers are even lower. HOWEVER, statistics really mean little when you have one -- then it is 100% (to you)

Am I doing something wrong?
StevePhelps replied to ripper0289's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
EXACTLY! Try military gear, circa 1977! -
300 military S/L jumps!? You gotta be kidding! You a lifer?
-
At our DZ we blame Spanky even if he isn't on the plane. We just say his stuff lingers longer than most!
-
Over 40 times -- at night, with combat gear, at less altitude than most would even dream about! Why would I do that? Oh yeah, I was in Special Forces! De Oppresso Liber!
-
busted through the clouds @ 6500 and pulled! LOL! All after corking a sit fly. LOL! I bet people are lined up to jump with you! Relax, just kidding! (sortof) I'm sure you all ready got reemed pretty good by the other jumpers. One advice though. Don't try "new" maneuvers (sit fly - HD, etc.) when you are jumping into "industrial haze". You're just asking for trouble.

Be a Coach... what do you need to know..
StevePhelps replied to skydivejersey's topic in Safety and Training
Yeah... but I'll bet you do "Gear Checks" a lot differently AFTER the Coach course, than you did before. Yeah, Keith, I do. Thanks! -
Ever jumped in a foreign country ??
StevePhelps replied to lazyfrog's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Cancun, MX FANTATSTIC view and the DZO (Michel) is one cool guy. He'll do a two way with you just the heck of it. Other than that all my jumps have been in the good old USA
