  1. You make it look easy -- no doubt I could do it (fly on back) as I have before, but I worry about transitions if I start to sink on them.
  2. JJ Looks great! Are you flying your back or your butt (sit)? I can sit fly with or without the camera suit but I tend to fall too fast -- even with wings. Gota lose some weight, I guess!
  3. I'm 225 before gear so with a 130# tandem and 110# tandem master -- me sit flying or knee flying is usually too fast.
  4. We took and 80 year old lady up for a tandem last Saturday. She never looked up at all, nor did she open up to fly. I arched like a mutha and tried to fly below her in a modified mantis. Got some pretty good video considering, but oh, what I would give to be confident enough to fly on my back below the TM. http://www.skydivevideo.info/538libbytandem.wmv
  5. I keep my Optic and both cameras along with lots of other stuff in a hard plastic tool box -- about two feet long and 18 inches high. I'll let you know if the FTN fits it when it arrives in a couple of weeks.
  6. I'm not sure why you took it off? Why didn't you put your left hand on the top of it as you reached back to pull? Anyway, congrats on keeping your head, eh helmet, and especially altitude awareness!
  7. I'd say go for it! Hope you switch -- you'll love the freefall you get with AFF rather than the progression in IAD (my opinion)
  8. Well, switch to AFF. I did. I had over 100 military jumps so jumping wasn't scarey, but hanging on the strut for IAD (similar to static) was "unnatural" After 13 IAD jumps I switched to AFF and I'm glad I did. Being very much a kinestetic learner I also benefited from having an instructor right beside me in freefall rather than a instructor watching me flail as I let go of the strut.
  9. 1977 - in 5th SF Group (ODA 552) and with Sgt Merrill (on my left) He was on ODA 551. I wish I took the time to take more photos ... my memory is fading!
  10. Dude, I thought I was the only one that happened to.
  11. Get the HC40 and with the extra money buy some other things you may need, like: D box, tapes, wide angle lens, maintenance contract or insurance, ... jumps.
  12. Like anything in technology, yesterday's model is outdated. In the Summer of 2004 TRV 19, 22 & 33 were new. By the Fall it was HC20, 30, & 40s. Now its ... you get the picture. Ebay had 37 Sony HC20s on there for some great prices. I may have to get one as a backup, the prices are so good.
  13. Elvis is THE man BTW -- your stuff was mailed Tuesday
  14. Okay, first person who has one of these cameras and PMs me -- gets it (I'll even pay the postage)
  15. I have a battery that isn't mine -- it doesn't fit my Sony HC20. It ended up in my bag and I've held it for 6 months with no claimers at our DZ. Anybody want it? PM me with name and address and I will mail to you. I have no clue what it is for or how good it is. SONY model # NP-FS11
  16. HC20 is a model #; the HC30 is a little better (has ability to capture pictures, HC40 more stuff, etc) I'm sure www.sony.com has the info on the differences. I have the HC20 and I'm very happy with it. I don't need the still capabilty as I have a digital rebel.
  17. There is a silver fade in the CLASSIFIEDS http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/classifieds/detail_page.cgi?ID=20467&d=1
  18. Sony makes good cameras for skydive videos. (HC 20, 30 or 40) are affordable and good. Their old TRV 19, 22 & 33 are popular too as well as older models like , PC 101s
  19. Good point, so does the ILO DVDR04
  20. let me clarify myself ... some of us have addictive personalities. You may be right in saying its impossible to KNOW we'll love it before we do it, but we KNOW this much about ourselves ... IF we like it as much as we THINK we will, we'll be hooked ... buy gear early (I bought my own altimeter after 2 jumps on AFF), get subscriptions to magazines (had subscriptions to both PARACHUTIST and SKYDIVING the same week I started AFF), etc. Yes, those things happened AFTER my first jump, but it was predictable.
  21. I use an ILO DVDR04. (cheap $140) It makes +R/RW DVDs. You can put intros on it and and other chapters later. You can keep adding chapters until you FINALIZE it. Press STOP when you transition and it makes chapters (easier to edit that way -- as if you screw up an portion you can delete that chapter and go again.) Right now we charge extra for DVD but 90% of tandfem/aff stiuudents want it -- it won't be long when we will have to chaqrge extra for VHS, as it is obsolete. However a recorder that does both + and -, would be better if you had to convert it, because a customer's DVD couldn't play either - or +
