Skydive Houston - Fastest Man Contest - This Weekend
NeedToJump replied to Levin's topic in Events & Places to Jump
You can still go fast doing RW. Diving to a formation (RW) I've done mid 180s, no where near fast HD speed, but it's still fairly quick. Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com -

OK, so if something happens in the plane and you have to leave then you are covered but what about if you leave and realize the spot is bad or the winds change and you can't make it to your intended landing area? Are there even any rules covering these circumstances? Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com -

I had a gig I needed to get to by 7:30. It's an hour drive and I left around 6:20, just made it. Yeah, three full time super otters with another one just down the street and a Cessna for the slow days. I saw the helicopter there yesterday too but it didn't look like anyone was jumping it. Pretty decent set up there

{{VIBES}} You need to heal up quickly so you can finish your AFF before September 30th! Seriously though, hope you get better soon.

Agreed. As I said, I'm just curious as to what the official rules are. Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com -
I jumped the Pantz once and wasn't a big fan of them, I can track better in my RW suit. I found with the pants that since there was so much drag on my legs that my body was getting pitched forward and down and I ended up diving. I would probably need to add more drag to my upper body and do some more jumps with them. My best track with my RW suit (tigh with booties) is about 82 average speed and I think 84 seconds of freefall time exiting at 14000 and pulling at 5000. I don't have the exact numbers but it was right around there. Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com

Bill, does the term "pilot" refer to skydivers as well or just someone who is flying an aircraft? Obviously if I was faced with a situation where this could be applicable I would just find a safe place to land and sort it out later. Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com -

LOL No I'm not planning one, I was just curious since I've "heard" about the rules but would like to see where they are official. But if I do happen to land in either of those places ever I'll see what I can do for you... Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com -

I was wonder what rules/laws apply to landing off in an emergency situation (in the USA.) I searched these forums and FAR section 105 and could not find what I was looking for. I remember hearing that according to the FAA you can land absolutely anywhere you want in an emergency situation. I was told something about skydivers who landed off (legitimately) in NASA property near the space shuttle and even though they were questioned, the landing was determined to be perfectly legal according to the FAA. Does anyone know about this and could you point me to an appropriate FAR section? Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com -
16/20 but on one video I clicked play and then missed the video and it doesn't let you replay so I just guessed (incorrectly.) Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com

Do you know we can find these videos? Are there any on ftp.skydivingmovies.com? I checked the public/landing and didn't see any there. Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com -
When are you a turkey, lowtimer etc?
NeedToJump replied to vonSanta's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Nothing, it's great. I think what they mean is that so many people are going straight to FF right off AFF without ever spending any time learning how to fly on their bellies. Isn't freefly being able to fly your body in all orientations?... [/rant] Just because they still learn something on every jump doesn't mean that (IMO) they are newbies. I still consier myself to be a newbie (with about 525 jumps) but in other aspects of my life (like work) I can still learn something new every day but do not consider myself a newbie. But to answer the question I consider newbie, beginner, etc. to be indications of how long one has been active in the sport. Even if someone who has been jumping for 10 years does not have a ton of jumps, they've still experienced a whole heck of a lot (for lack of a better description.) I would not consider them a newbie. 7 CELL or 9 CELL for NOVICE'S first Main?

8 jumps and he told you that a 1.4 loading is fine for you??!? Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com -
Elaborating on that, every rigger I've spoken to about reserves have endorsed PD as their only choice. On a personal note, I love my PDR-143. I have a PD-126 (and am currently getting another) that I hope I do not have to use, but I am confident that they will treat me very well should the need arise. Like Ivan said it may be the actual floppy and not the drive that is damaged. Try it with a few others and see if it reads any of them. Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com

Tomorrow is supposed to be beautiful! Wednesday is supposed to be OK with rain in the afternoon (which in my book means it will be sunny all day ) I just told that to my boss since I was thinking of taking off Wednesday and he said "so take off both days!" What a great guy. So I may see you there tomorrow or Wednesday. Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
