  1. It also depends on how you intend to fly for an hour. Do you mean one hour total over the course of en entire day or one hour of straight flying? Generally you go in for a two minute session and then rotate with another person (or people.) The most that people usually will fly out of a one hour block is 30 minutes (2 minutes in, two minutes out for the whole hour.) This is pretty tiring even if you've been in the tunnel before. To fly for a full hour straight would probably be very detrimental to you as you would be too tired to do anything and you may even hurt yourself. I'd say for your first time down there take it easy. If you want two hours of flying time then split it up. I would recommend flying no more than 20 minutes out of an hour for your first time in there. Enjoy!
  2. After doing a big way during a staged breakoff RW flyers can see the base and how fast they are moving away from it both horizontally and vertically. Tracking is definitely not an afterthought when leaving a 100 way, it's a life saving skill for the tracker and everyone else around. Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com

  7. No, as long as you have your A-license (or equivalent) and freefly safe gear you would be allowed to jump with a freefly coach. Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  8. He injured his arm last year and isn't jumping with the Dust Devils any more. Last I heard he was in Australia doing a lot of BASE filming (he switched to a left-hand BOC so he could jump.) Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com

  10. A sponsorship is a two way street - a person or company provides you with money/gear/facilities and you turn give something back to them. Most of the sponsorships within skydiving are from within the skydiving - performance designs sponsors a highly recognized team. The team in turn says good things about pd and displays the pd logo. Figure out something that you have to offer a company, something that would make it attractive for them to sponsor you. Be creative. Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com

  12. I have not attented Chris Lynch's seminar, but I can say that the course run by Scott is extremely informative. I have done both his basic and advanced courses and have learned a lot from both of them. If you're looking for a canopy course these is also this one coming up which I know I will be attending. 14. I'veh ad two cutaways and both times I've lost the reserve freebag and pilot chute. First one was at Skydive New England - completely surrounded by forest. Cutaway around 5000 feet after a CRW entanglement in really strong winds. Only reason I got the main back is because the other guy pulled it out from his lines and landed it for me after I cut away. Second one was at DeLand and I know where the freebag is, it's just too deep in dense forest that it's not worth going in there to get it. Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  15. Nancy and her suits rock! I've flown a few of her tunnel suits and they are great for the tunnel. They provide tons of lift without being super baggy. You actually fly yourself and not the suit which makes it much more similar to flying in the air. I've also used the same suits in the air which is great fun - flying sit and head down comfortably with belly flyers and tandems. Nancy is also a great person and will take the time to make sure that you get exactly what you want out of the suit. She'll make sure that the suit is personalized to you. You rock Nancy!
  16. Wind tunnels are an incredible tool available to anyone who wishes to take advantage of it (and has the monetary means to do so.) They are great for all skill levels, whuffos with no jumps use them as does every world class 4-way team. I guarantee that the Golden Knights, DeLand Majic, Arizona Airspeed, the French national 4-way team, Mike Swanson, Rook Nelson, etc. etc. do not have any turning or balance problems, yet they all see the value in using wind tunnels to train. That being said tunnel flying is different than freefall. The biggest differences are there is no plane ride, no exit, no need to pull your parachute to save your life and no canopy ride. The airflow in the wind tunnels is different than in the air. Wind tunnels are susceptible to turbulence and the airflow can be uneven throughout the tunnel. Wind tunnels are also the best way to get a lot of "air" time. What is the most freefall time you could get in a single day? It's probably not very possible, but say you could 60 jumps from altitude (1 minute of freefall each) in a day. That's 60 minutes. In a wind tunnel you could get 60 minutes of flying time in 60 minutes (though it would hurt a lot.) Wind tunnels are not perfect and definitely are not freefall, but they allow for an incredible amount of learning and are great fun. Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  17. I was told that people have flown worn wingsuits in the tunnel, but yeah I agree with you - I don't think it would be very beneficial for wing suit flying. That is unless you're trying to learn how to slam into a wall more efficiently Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  18. 1) where was it located? SkyVenture in Orlando, FL 2) did you find it useful? Incredibly so for everything all disciplines - I have done RW (individual skills and 4-way), back, sit and head down in there and it has helped me a lot in all of them. 3) useful as a training tool, or just for fun? Very useful and very fun 4) does your DZ have one, or is there one being built at your DZ? No, but I can dream.... 5) was it cost effective for you, or would you rather use your money towards skydives? Very cost effective - for 4-way we get a one hour block for $600 and fly half of it - that's $300 for 30 minutes of tunnel time split between 4 people = $75 per person. Solo time (at SkyVenture in Orlando) costs between $10 and $19.24 per minute depending how much time you buy (usually it's either $10 or $11 per minute.) I find this to be very cost effective as well as it's about the same price as a skydive (a little cheaper but no canopy ride) but the learning curve is much steeper. Hope this helps

  20. If you mean this coming Saturday (1/10) then I hope you have the time booked already. The tunnel is very heavily book - I've got my time booked from now until the end of April... Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  21. I on the other hand have had excellent experiences with both the suits and the customer service. They ended up making my suit for me in 2.5 days (talk about a rush order) and everything was perfect. Since then I have put about 300 jumps on it and about 12 hours in the tunnel and it has held up great - the tunnel is known to destroy suits. I've had a few very minor things I've needed fixed and their customer service was great. I brought the suit in and everything was done within 10 minutes for free. I highly recommend Merlin Suits. 22. I think I did about 700 jumps this year but I haven't been very good about logging for the past few months. I did somewhere form 650 - 700 I would guess though. Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com

  24. Was that your first time freeflying in the tunnel? You were looking good in there. Yeah, Mike is an awesome coach although he was just visiting here for that camp - he's really at Perris full time now. If you go to the tunnel there try to get coached by him. There's still plenty of outstanding coaches here though. Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
