2. I think the first and most obvious step is to become a proficient skydiver. (technically I guess you could become a dealer, rigger, etc where you wouldnt need skydiving skills but I take it you're talking about becoming an instructor) --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

4.
I believe the term hybrid is becoming obsolete.
What are you talking about? People around here use the word hybrid for a type of jump involving belly fliers that accept docks (chest straps, etc) from sitflyers. I hear the term thrown around quite a bit. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
5. as someone who eventually wants to get his tandem rating I think this would be a great way to consolidate information into one place. The only thing is a moderator(s) would have to go through the other forums and move a bunch of information to the forum so continuity would be preserved. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
6. hell yeah dude, thats awesome. Thats one of the drawing points for me getting a tandem rating eventually, introducing people to our wonderful sport. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

9. to any digitude users out there a few questions. Do you zero and turn your digitude off for the ride up, just clicking it on every few thousand feet to keep tabs, or do you keep it on the whole time? I am wondering if switching it on and off every 2-3 thousand feet might be burning more batteries than just leaving it on . When I turn it off it flashes to another number with "bat" next to it. Is this giving you a rough power level left in the battery or what? What is the low battery message (if any?) Thanks a lot!

smoke jumpers

yeah I agree there are definitely some parallels, and plus I dont think anyone would mind shining a spotlight on any smoke jumpers that lurk these forums to get them to tell us some stories From what I've read they deploy a number of ways: by static lines from ~3k, or quick "hop and pop" type deals. One story I was even reading involved them using drogues like a tandem (for the jumpers without skydiving experience to help get stabile for deployment). Jump out, toss drogue immediately, hesitate 2-3 seconds, deploy. Its kind of a dream for me to be a smoke jumper (ever since I heard about it when I was a little guy). Kinda weird now that I've started skydiving and want to start BASE jumping soon. I didnt make the connection til like a month or two ago and reread all the stories/books I have on it. Anywho, im babbling.
15. cash is easier and you can buy a drink from the dude with the cooler with your cash. Can't do that with credit cards! Credit cards suck!
16.
Is it cheaper to operated the A/C on weekdays?
The point isnt that its cheaper to operate the planes or gas is less exspensive during the weekdays, obviously. The point is that most DZs offer a weekday discount (from what I've seen) and people are pissed that this DZ is stepping the discount down. Now, I think bitching about the discount being taken away is a bit like kicking a gift horse in the mouth, afterall you're still SKYDIVING... --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
17. what if you slam your head against the side of the airplane while exiting? A frap hat I'm sure would do more good than no helmet. But I think frap hats are silly, I mean if youre going to wear a helmet wear a helmet, not a peice of leather... --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

smoke jumpers

have you read the book "smoke jumper"? Its a great read. They do static lines from 3k a kilometer or so from hundred acre fires. Crazy stuff indeed. That would rock if some smoke jumpers were reading this forum, not really BASE related, but still filed under "cool as shit", imo. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
19.
as long as no money is changing hands and no value is offered to the pilot
What if the pilot is doing it just for flight hours? And he is getting his gas compensated? Is that ok, or would that require a commercial license? --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

23. I've only seen a couple reserve rides. All of them the people watched where their main went and followed the freebag (granted that they had fields to land in, I would think fixating on getting your gear could be a BAD thing). As a beginner skydiver when I have my first cutaway/reserve ride I want to be focused on finding and landing myself safely. I can replace the parachute if lost. Thats just my opinion though. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
24. about 1k, if im sitting up near the door it will be around 700-750 which is the lowest altitude I would consider bailing (if I wasnt near the door i'd keep it on til everyone else was comfortable with the bailout altitude - 1k). --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
25. I wanted to add - if you dont already know how, why dont you go out to the DZ with your dad and learn how to pack/maintain parachutes. If your mom is dead set against you jumping maybe at least you can get a job packing sport parachutes and make some extra cash and get a lot of practical knowledge from a wide base of people. Anywho, good luck! :) --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
