1. Whats the deal with this being one of the A license requirements? What if theres no water around your DZ? Isn't saying you have to have an unintentional water landing about the same as saying you must sprain your ankle on a landing to get your A license? Wouldn't both be considered fuckups that a student MIGHT but may not likely make? --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
2. how important is being one inch too small for a helmet? Is there anything you can do to take up some slack like you can with bike helmets, i.e. pads inside, tighter fit, etc. I'm a 22 inch wanting to buy a helmet designed for a 23 inch head. Thanks. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
3. Is it safe to pack a 160-170 reserve in a container built for a 190-220 reserve? Thanks. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
4. I just recently started skydiving, but have been instructed on total malfunctions (pc in tow) to go directly to reserve due to the high speed nature of a total. It's not that hard to remember, total = direct to reserve. Partial = cutaway, then reserve. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

Demoing Gear

What is the procedure for demoing canopies? Do you go through your DZO operator, or what? Thanks. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
6.
... their impaired judgement might get me killed...
For that matter, where DO you draw the line? Experience counts just as much as the impaired or unimpaired motor skills of someone. What about a skydiver who is known to not watch out for others under canopy? Or one that pulls without waving off in formation? What about a student who doesnt have that many jumps? What about someone who didn't get that much sleep last night? The question was posed, how far do you take it...just exactly how far DO you take it? --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
7. Of course toggles all the way up, but what about the rest of your body, try to distribute your weight foward if you can, i.e. raised knees? Does it matter that much? I mainly want to know for the final leg of a landing, or going into the wind, as it doesn't seem to be that hard to get good foward motion with the wind
8. I understand that an AAD is required for students, but is it mandantory for people who have attained their A license? How many people jump with AADs that have their A license? --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
9. will this pendulum effect be as dramatic as someone that is substantially heavier? After all, their descent rate will be faster, correct? And also the momentum of the turn will be greater due to their larger mass? I guess it's pretty much water under the bridge though, as I am going to just listen to what my instructors say until I get a LOT more experience. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
10. Bear in mind that I only have 3 jumps so far, so thinking about my first rig is still very theoretical, but here goes...I only weigh 125 pounds without gear. So I'm thinking I'm going to be needing a MUCH smaller canopy than say someone that weighs 180 or so. The canopy I used on my first jump felt like it was much to big, but hey, it was my first jump. Then they downsized me to a smaller one, and I really couldn't tell how good I was controlling it (high winds, etc). My question is would it be smart for me to be thinking about a small(er) canopy than normal people who weigh 60-70 pounds (at least) more than me? Thanks, I appreciate your feedback. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

Thanks for all the responses, and yeah, I'd like to see a pic of it on someone's hand if anyone know where one is, point me in the right direction. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

What is your opinion of these? Are they accurate? Do you use one? If not, why? Thanks. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
13. I'm new to skydiving, so my opinion may change within a few dozen jumps, but I hear all this talk about RW, CReW, 2 way, 3 way, etc etc, and I can't help but wonder where do I fit in all of this. All I want to do is fly through the air, I don't really have any interest in working together with a whole bunch of people in freefall. Don't get me wrong, im not saying I dislike anyone I've met at my DZ, they've all been decent people, but so far (at only 3 jumps) I consider my freefall time PRECIOUS, I want to bask in it and enjoy every second of it. I don't want to be worrying about tracking to this person, grabbing this person, etc etc. Is this common, or am I an antisocial freak ? --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

glasses?

laser eye surgery seems way out of my price range. I'm leaning toward wearing a full faced helmet, so unless my visor blows open, I won't have to worry about the contact coming off in the wind. Now all I have to worry about is paying for the contact lense fitting appointment, and not to mention paying for the damn things! I'm broke! --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

glasses?

What do you all that need to wear glasses for seeing do when jumping? I am thinking about purchasing contacts just for this reason. I don't like the idea of having glasses on and have just one more thing go wrong (i.e. them slipping off while in freefall, fogging up, etc). Of course, I would have to wait and get used to wearing the contacts, but other than that is that the only way I can jump with good vision? --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
16. cool, I was definitely looking for someone to say yeah save your bones and go right for a BASE specific canopy. I can't be dishing out hundreds of dollars for gear that I want to use. I would if I could, but... That said, I recognize the fact that I very well might get distracted with how much fucking fun jumping from airplanes is, but even after my first few initial jumps I still have burning in the back of my mind how cool it would be to hike out in the woods, alone, and jump off shit... --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
17. Im on level 3 AFF and have of course happily used the student jump suit and rig, and will for a few jumps after I graduate from AFF. My DZ has a policy that lets you jump their gear for free if you made every level with them, so using the gear after I graduate AFF school isnt a problem. However, how long do most people jump student gear? Is it a problem with doing multiple jumps in a day? I want after I graduate from AFF when the jumps arn't 100 bucks each to do like 5-10 jumps every weekend. Would they kinda be frowning on me using their gear that much? I don't want to be an asshole and take advantage of a nice offer, but then again, I am a poor ass sonuvabitch... --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
18. Bear with this newbieish post if you can to help me clarify a few things... I recently started skydiving with the intent to rapidly progress through and move onto BASE. I thought that skydiving would be fun but that the experience that I needed for BASE would be the most important. Now, I realize I won't be able to BASE jump as soon as I thought, and that skydiving in itself is amazing. I still want to BASE jump though within a hundred or so jumps. I am a poor college student, and was wondering why for skydiving everyone uses a 9 cell canopy, and BASE uses a 7 cell. I was wondering if using a 7 cell canopy for skydiving to get used to how it handled and flew in preparation for BASE was done? Also, I keep hearing that for BASE you need these incredibly big canopies, like 220-240 ft2. I'm a light guy and could easily see progressing to a 190-170 for skydiving within a matter of jumps. Do people use small canopies for BASE? Why not if not? I would think the smaller the canopy in the hands of someone who has experience flying it, would make for a more precision landing. I guess my main question is can I buy my canopy once I get off student rental rigs for skydiving but with the intention of switching it over to a dedicated BASE rig? --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
19. I am having trouble finding out this rather simple question. I understand that you can easily mount an audible altimeter in a secure place on your skydiving helmet. I also understand the warning beeps and sirens are loud enough for you to hear and recognize what it is. Do people skydive with JUST the audible altimeter? I hate looking at the wrist mounted clock type thing. Is it safe to dive with only the audible altimeter? I am only a student now, but could envision myself after I get 20 or 30 jumps NOT wanting the wrist mounted alt. Is this a stupid question??? --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
