Re: [DrewEckhardt] To/from burning man
andy2 replied to scottjaco's topic in Events & Places to Jump
yeah search the web or even the skydiver forums on this website. You'll find some links I think. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm... -
yeah good idea. I want to be a coach in another hundred or so jumps, be helpful to know what the "big guys" are doing. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

ah you got to put it in perspective if you want the max out of a roller coaster. Youre not falling from the sky at 120+ mph but it is pretty fun to do barrel rolls and flips etc on a track in a little car. Just more fun to do them with your body in the sky --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

How do you define a High Performance Landing?
andy2 replied to lawrocket's topic in Safety and Training
I think it's kinda pointless to even define it? But what do I know. I would say any landing where someone is inputting controls to gain speed while landing for reasons other than just safely landing (i.e. front riser input, toggle dive, etc). Just my two cents... --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm... -
Other flying people's description of skydivers
andy2 replied to vonSanta's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
theyre just subconsciously jealous --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm... -
i would max track into trees and flare at a little above tree height (flare with my body that is). Thats all theoretical though cause in reality I would be working with my reserve parachute hoping to get it to work (or tearing at my back trying to get something out in the case of a reserve total). Never give up --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

wha? You'll do fine. I think theres a few people on this website that are avid skydivers that weigh as much as you. You just have to realize that you'll be loading the training canopies heavier than the instructors are used to students loading them so pay CLOSE attention to the training (not like you shouldnt anyhow ). Just make your concerns known to the instructors and they'll tell you what you need. They might go grab weights to do the aff dives though --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

from my very limited experience, yes a jumpsuit will slow you down (a proper fitting one not by much) but you'll have so much more control. Same with booties, they will slow you down, but you'll be so much more sharp and decisive in the air. Thats just my limited experience from only 50 jumps so take it as you will. I have the same problem as you though, we just have to remember how to arch hard, maybe get somebody GOOD to video you and debrief you (your "hard" arch might actually need to be tweaked to help your position). Sometimes what we think were doing in the air isnt actually what were doing (at least for me ). --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

Re: [DrewEckhardt] To/from burning man
andy2 replied to scottjaco's topic in Events & Places to Jump
it's called burning sky, and its not so much a boogie but more a series of demo jumps. I would love to go to burning man, not even mentioning burning sky, that'd rock! Have you seen pics of burning man? It looks like a fucking blast man! --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm... -
Was your rig uncomofrtable when you first got it?
andy2 replied to ColdDuck's topic in Gear and Rigging
tell us little guys what mirage said, I'd be curious to know as in a year I'll be shopping for a NICE NEW container and would appreciate knowing running knowledge of the company's customer service. Thanks! --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm... -
but im not sure why 45 degree method is flawed
I think the flaw in it is that by tilting your head a bit, or picking it up higher etc will drastically change that "45 degree angle". Also this is subjective as each aircraft has a different door and therefore will support a different "angle of observation" when viewing exiting jumpers. PLus wind speed will often dictate how long of a seperation you need. The 45 degree angle is just inherently flawed all around, pretty much. At least this is what I have thought about and plus it has been reinforced by jumpers at my DZ. Timing is everything, not what angle they look like theyre at. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

Whats the best way to deal with getting cought by a Dust Devil?
andy2 replied to Viking's topic in Safety and Training
the probability of dust devils increases when you are near large objects that create turbulence (buildings, trees, etc?) I know they can be found in wide open spaces too. I used to spot some on my campus when I was walking to and fro classes in winter, etc so I dont think weather has a WHOLE lot to do with it (even though it probably does have something to do...) --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm... -
funny you said the rotation thing cause I didn't my first time I packed pyscho (luckily I was jumping something that was somewhat DOCILE ). From my limited experience, pyscho packing makes my parachute open a bit more snively giving me a softer opening than if I had just packed PRO and s folded the thing into the D bag. Note that this is my experience and your mileage may vary! I like talking to the experienced riggers and packers at my DZ about any gear questions I have, personally, but its nice to have a little internet cross section factor into your decision of which way to pack too --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

hello, I'm just trying to get a little bit of perspective from experienced folks. Are most of your jumps during the daytime or the nighttime? I ask this bc I was under the impression that A's pretty much should always be jumped at night for the risk of burning the site, etc. But I've been hearing more and more lately about people jumping this A or another A during the day as it is "safe to do so". I assume this means its remote or something. But, I digress

LOL!!! Thats great fun. Show us more! hehe --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

nothing beats going out and trying stuff in the air with the help of a coach, imo. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
Two top Chinese skydivers will also take part in the event
Whew, I'm glad they got some expert skydivers to participate in a BASE event. That's super! --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

I recognize that plexi glass in front of the desk thing. Is that the area where they file the new inmates in and get their paperwork straight (and where you check out)? That brings back some bad ole memories. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

how does the average customer know though? Kinda shady though, honesty might force you to give a little discount... --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

I don't see how its not a factor. The older a peice of gear is the more likely it will be "worn in". It's just odds, of course some people might have a rig that is over 20 years old and has less than a thousand jumps on it, but probably more times than not the gear is old and will present saftey issues, like the one you found (luckily on the ground!). Some gear just needs to be retired, I think... --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

dont forget dopamine too. Its common to find people that do activities that produce natural "highs" to state that they participate in such to feel "normal". When that is exactly what they are doing, the activity elavates them to a plateau that "normal people" are usually at. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

I think pack volume has to do with things like, does it have airlocks, crossbraces, what material is it made of, what type of lines does it have, etc. Am I missing something? I don't think neccassarily the way the planform is designed changes the pack volume (of course unless the way its designed calls for more fabric here or there such as in any of the examples I said). What else changes pack volume? --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

how were you going to cutaway your reserve if something bad happened to it upon doing your intentional cutaway? Or were you just planning to deploy the round reserve into it and create a bigger mess??? --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

mods for containers to make them more freefly friendly?
andy2 replied to andy2's topic in Gear and Rigging
awesome, thats what I wanted to hear, if its being done. The only thing that stood out to me on the rig (taking into consideration I have limited knowledge about rigging ) was the main closing flap, its flimsy at best. A larger/stiffer tucktab would definitely rock. The velcro is great, it was replaced ~30 jumps ago, which was when the BOC was replaced. Thanks for the info guys, I'll talk to my rigger about it a little more. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
