will you beleive them
lol, I won't care. How does it affect me if a dealer is shady? I'll still go about purchasing canopies with the advice of friends, mentors, and instructors. Shady dealers will exist in any market. Its human nature, I've come to find out. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

i reckon you'll look back on these "sensory overload" jumps with fond (if somewhat cloudy) memories. I'm already wistfully thinking about my first few jumps and I only have 58 now!

i have little experience, but in my opinion the most dangerous times in a skydive are deployment and landing. Its not a coincidence that I, in an attempt to be a safe jumper, have asked the most questions and attempted to find the best coaching on break off techniques, and landing. I think a proper breakoff is imperative. Thanks for posting your near incident. stay safe --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

are these recomended while flying GTi's and classics? Or are the wings simply small enough to not warrent this mod? Thanks. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

not trying to start anything but I've heard of other canopy manufacturer's besides ATAIR now doing this saying, "oh youre flying a (insert your canopy size here), you need to fly a (insert one size smaller here) to get a real feel for our canopy". Whether they say it "flies big", or it will "fly better at this WL" is a bit of a marketing scam, no? It seems like they want you to fly the smaller canopy so that when it comes time to dish out your money you'll think of their canopy as the "sportier" one. I don't know how much this affects the serious buyer as I dont think they would be fooled too easily by this somewhat shallow marketing trick. If you're going to demo why not demo the EXACT same size canopy youre flying now. Otherwise whats your point of reference!?!? On the other hand, Im still curious to see what the manufacturer's say the reasoning behind suggesting a higher WLed canopy as demos is. I'll hope my "hunch" is wrong. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

a lot of container manufacturers have their harness sizes listed so you can check out what size would fit your range. Also many people sell used their containers and tell you about what size might fit. Fictional example: skydiver A is selling a javelin sized for someone who is 5'8-5'9". Maybe that rig would fit you? Maybe not? The only way to tell for sure would be to take it up in the air for a jump! All of our bodies are different and a rig that fits your friend who is 5'9" might not suit you just right. Maybe someone else will have something to add... --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

i am understanding it right that this "patch" is more of a win-win situation as the overall rigidity of the canopy is increased adding performance to the swoop? --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
a jump that witnesses described as near-suicidal
If only they knew how far from the truth that statement actually is... --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm... -
chuck, on the hard opening cobalts did you notice any other difference with the inflight performance while flying these canopies? Or were the canopies indentical except for the opening stages? --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

I think as with anything use your best judgement. It can't hurt to let it be known that someone sold a stiletto 107 to a student with 45 jumps, or similar situation. Let the buying public use their common sense. If you're careful with your customers (as any dealer should be) then you've got nothing to worry about. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

well then I think that qualifies you to a trip to a well known tunnel in orlando or maybe perris in a few weeks. For scientific purposes of course. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

maybe he was referring to the fact that the katana will displace most/if not all of the vengeance's demand as they are similar niche products, but not exact, from what I gather. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

I think thats how I felt after my first sit attempt 20 jumps ago. And you know, come to think of it I'm still feeling like that! I hope it doesnt fade! blue skies bro!

what a loss, what a loss.. I never even met him but it's obvious from just his postings on here and blinc how much he cared about helping other people BASE jump safely. I send condolences to his family. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

Ever forgotten to activate your CYPRES?
andy2 replied to vonSanta's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I am somewhat indifferent as to whether the rig I'm using has an AAD. If it has one, I turn it on. In any case I consider it a good idea to keep pulling handles until something landable is overhead, and to do so with sufficient altitude to have a good chance of success. It is typically better to forget to turn it on and leave it off than to remember on the ride to altitude and turn it on then. I once remembered to turn on my CYPRES as we climbed through 3,000 feet, then thought "wait a minute!" and turned it back off again. Someone who did so but left it on had a reserve ride out of a formation, so I'm glad I rethought the matter.
I agree with you, except that Im not indifferent toward whether or not I jump an AAD equipped rig. I would like to jump a rig with an AAD. I feel an AAD is a good tool. I happen to not jump one bc I feel my money is better spent on jump tickets, but doesnt change the fact that I still would like one in a perfect world. Ouch about the AAD fire at 4k. That had got to be a wake up call for that guy, huh? --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm... -
**STUPID NEWBIE QUESTION** What makes a parachute work?
andy2 replied to Nightingale's topic in Gear and Rigging
once you've deployed a parachute in freefall and looked over and done gear checks and had your instructor explain all the FJC material you probably wont have to ask. It's very intuitive. We are creatures of flight. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm... -
you dont have to sew much of anything, just thread a belt through it then some shoelaces through the ankles. Looks like it will work. I found some rain pants in my attic and I'll go to the goodwill for a rain jacket. Mismatching the colors seems to be a bonus. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

Comp Cobalt to be delivered today!!!!
andy2 replied to kansasskydiver's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
so how are they packing these cobalts to be able to deploy in sits and HD? (their promotional video) --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm... -
i figure I will want to start utilizing water to intitiate my swoop once I have a WL of 1.7-1.8, thats plenty high enough to be able to start it over water. Mainly I just wanted to know who has used it for pond swooping and how has it reacted? (i.e. has it held up?). I'm a LONG way away from WLs that would fire a cypres, but not THAT far away from a WL where I will want to utilize water to swoop. (relatively speaking). --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

Ever forgotten to activate your CYPRES?

why have an AAD if youre not going to turn it on? Forgetting is a stupid excuse. Stupidity kills. I don't have an AAD to turn on though, maybe some of you people forgetting about them would like to donate one. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm... -
what WL though? For the average someone well below 2.0 I dont know if its possible. What do you think? --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

do you think its status as such would change if it was used more? --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

Been almost a week since my last jump...
andy2 replied to ifics's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
download real vids of people skydiving. It's been 2 weeks since I've jumped. Won't get to jump for another 1.5 weeks. I got a bunch of money saved up though and Im spending some solid time jumping as soon as my rig comes in. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
