Jumping when you are supposed to be grounded??
andy2 replied to funks's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I think in skydiving there are no guarentees. I've seen students slam down hard under 288s. Only you can say. It's your body. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm... -
you know the CO2 is carbon dioxide right? It's pretty plentiful in the atmosphere. Why don't you get a pump? --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

I love my quasar II. I especially like the main closing flap, seems particularly sturdy. I like that you dont have to lift the reserve tuck tab all the way off to check the pin, its designed so you can just pull up the end and then reseat it easily. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

at home eating chocolate chip poundcake. About to run over to the climbing gym and get a work out in. Grey skies here, otherwise I'd be at the DZ! --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

any opinion on goggles/glasses anyone? Do they frost up bad? Is it a good idea to cover them with some protective crap skiiers/snowboarders cover their goggles with? --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

ouch gus thats some bad advice, imo! Your riser keepers are designed to be tight in order to keep the toggles in place in case of a riser cover blowing open. The keepers are there to prevent a brake fire upon deployment. They should remain tight. Arn't a lot of risers now having little seperate excess brake line keepers on the backs of the risers (since all these problems started?)? --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

it took me about 3 weeks to get the physical license. It took about a week to get email confirmation. Have you been in touch with USPA? --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

on my vector 2 from time to time when people would check my reserve pin, they would slap/thwack the reserve pin cover and I noticed the plastic started deforming and would probably of started cracking. Instead of slapping the rig why not just pat the person's arm or say "you're good", etc. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
That said, if the top and bottom skin are all right and the lines too, including the connections points, there shouldn't be any damage inside the canopy.
That sounds a little complacent Why don't you just hang it up and check out the ENTIRE canopy? If for nothing else so you have an enjoyable hop/pop and don't have to worry about it so much. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

Did I ask you for a gear check?
andy2 replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm OK with it. It's happened before, it will happen again. I'm glad that people are looking out for me. If I think that someone might have dislodged something, or otherwise messed things up, I'll recheck it myself. If I can't check it myself I'll ask another jumper in the plane to do it. Be happy that people are looking out for you, one of these days they may save your life.
Would also suck if after they checked it they slammed you on the back right over your riser cover and dislodged your reserve pin. Very possible. Hurumph hurumph. I don't agree with taking an attitude about it, just politely tell the person you dont want to tolerate unannounced gear checks. It's scary at the very least to feel your rig being rearranged without your consent. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm... -
im thinking about converting to pull out. Ever since I started freeflying and working with various coaches, I've realized they all use pull out for a damn good reason. Probably a lot safer on the plane ride up too. You probably already thought about this though... --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
I'm confused. You don't have much money to spend on this, but you can afford to go anywhere and stay for a month
A pilot can rent a plane pretty cheaply if he knows the right people and takes the time to find the best prices in his area. That's why having your license rocks so much, you can FLY, get it? --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

so there's really no point in doing this mod if you arn't really actively competing? Kinda along the lines of the reefing system PD invented? --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

not adding to the flames, but I just suggested something for the website, I never suggested that I wanted to lead anybody. Thanks. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

yeah getting as much air out as possible is pretty key dude --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

I thought more of a cable running up the leg to the body. Just thoughts, the "loop" would be more like a kickstart on a motorcycle, that would have less of a failure/disaster rate as a loop I think. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
explain to her how safe skydiving is
You're fooling yourself if you think skydiving is safe. It's not reckless, crazy, suicidal like some whuffos think but I dont think its safe. Safe is staying home on a saturday and watching TV and eating junk food in sweat pants. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

it worked for me for my AFF. My instructor threw a whole bunch of words and phrases and stuff that I didnt understand what it meant, then he said the magic words, "take a few minutes and VISUALIZE the dive flow, go through the entire skydive in your head..." etc etc. Worked great for me. I think it probably depends on the person a lot, but most people seem to think visualizing helps them especially in atheletic things like skydiving...

what about a type of handle on your left (or right) foot that when kicked/dislodged with other foot "cuts away" the weight/water, etc? That way your hands could be kept doing what theyre supposed to do, be on risers and toggles --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

definitely man, thanks, do much kayaking up in that area? --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

I dont know about the crap in my pants but I really loved scoping those pics. What a beautiful place, looks every bit as spiritual as Norway. One question, is this a less popular BASE site simply because accessibility is so tough? I will love to make a jump there someday.

i didnt tell my "mommy" that I was going skydiving when I went. I told my dad. I was 19 so felt somewhat obliged to let at least one of them have a heads up. My mom would cancel I think if she could! lol! She hates the idea of me jumping out of planes. Just out of curiousity, how old are you? --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

Could you find your forward speed from a wind meter?
andy2 replied to TALONSKY's topic in Wing Suit Flying
what about flying next to a plane and getting the pilot to record simple data points. Wouldnt be EVERYDAY practical, but a wind meter mounted somewhere on your body wouldn't either I guess... (or maybe im full of stupid "ideas" today ). --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm... -
From my research I've seen a few FJC's that say 150 jumps bare minimum, but most experienced jumpers encourage an aspiring BASE jumper to make 200, 300, sometimes 400 skydives before you make your first BASE jump. That seems right. Its a tough situation when you know your whole "skydiving career" that you want to get to the point to start BASE jumping as SOON as possible but inwardly keep telling yourself to wait! Brutal honesty, hehe --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
