1. question: "dropping" your rears to go for your toggles to shut it down would make it surge foward though? I take it youre talking about slowly releasing your risers and then giving a normal finishing toggle flare to shut it down? Just trying to understand what that means... --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
2. I am looking foward to when I start BASE jumping under the instruction of a responsible/experienced mentor not only for the amount of wisdom he can impart to me, but also as a way to meet other jumpers to share awesome loads with. Just another reason that finding a mentor is critical, in my inexperienced opinion. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
3. hey tom, Im unfamiliar with the stavanger BASE klubb, can you explain a bit about how it operates? Kinda like a resident BASE mentor at the perrine who could watch out for beginners/hand out information to those who are wanting it? Sounds like a great idea. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
4. lets see some pics of you in freefall with it! Put some parachutes in it first though! --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
5. in your guys opinion does a crossbraced canopy do just as well in "dust devils" and other turbulence as airlocked? The advantage I see to airlocks is big air sportz makes a model that is geared toward intermediate pilots, the lotus, which is definitely NOT the case with crossbraced canopies. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
6. i just jumped a sabre 150 this past weekend that was used by someone on the golden knights. Nice black/yellow color combo. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
7. i've noticed working out has helped a lot with my torn rotator cuff. See your doc and ask for a good phys program or ask him to referr you to a good sports doc. Or search online theres a ton of stuff. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
8. you mean orient yourself relative to which way the ground is? I.E. if youre learning how to do HD (or sit/stand in my case) and doing solo jumps, one should face perpindicular to jumprun. Most people dont side slide during training, the big thing you have to worry about is foward/backward movement, correct? --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
9. what about talking to your rigger? Maybe a different slider or a different packing technique may help. That said I believe its been said here that 1000+ feet of snivel is usually a misconception. Does your snivel really last 7+ seconds? That's a hell of a long time! --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
10. well said. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
11.
It was a weekday, so the dropzone was pretty dead. Which was good for me. Took a lot of pressure off.
I went through my entire AFF like this and really liked it. Save the craziness of a weekend (or boogie for that matter) for when you are finished with your instructor jumps. It went a lot more smoothly for me, and I felt the instructors could dedicate a little more time to me in the process. Blue Skies, you're doing great on your progression, keep it up! --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
12. seriously, I saw kramer ripping it off. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
13. thanks for the info. I dont plan on doing that stuff until I have quite a few regular crew jumps under my belt. Im not sure if Im ready for regular crew yet though. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
14. my heart/thoughts go out to his family. I'm very sorry this had to happen. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
15. most long flights are coupled with conservative canopy rides from what I can tell. A lot of them have to be or they won't make it back to the landing area! blue skies --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
16. just bc the vertical drop from the cliff is 2,000' doesn't mean that the talus further down doesn't slope pretty steeply. I believe this is what allows some birdmen (and even trackers) to get monster times from these cliffs. I dont know, I'll tell you in a year or two when I go to norway!
17. usually a container can fit a range one size up and one size down ok. Note that if you go one size up it may be difficult to pack for a student, especially if its ZP material. So a container that is sized for a 220 canopy could fit a 240 and down to a 210 safely. Your best bet would be to start looking around at used equipment and query manufacturer's about their product when you have a question of whether or not your main will fit their container. Theyre your best bet for this type of thing. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
18. rounds are still used quite frequently BASE jumping as water rigs. I am looking foward to learning how to pack a round reserve for my rigger's ticket. Any technology that is different but yet functions to the same end is interesting to me. I wouldn't want to have a round reserve in my rig though. I want a square reserve about the same size as my main (you can't swoop a round). --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
19. just out of curiosity how many people do you get that fly 2.6-3.0 WLed canopies that want to do this for you? I can understand the novelty of being under canopy and flying with a WS for a jump or two, but what canopy pilot would want to do this as a routine thing? It seems pretty limited to me (or am I not envisioning grandly enough?). Why not focus on relative work with other Wing Suits (docks, approaches, etc)? --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

China BASE.

thats fuckin rad! New thoughts, new beginnings, new possibilities. Have fun and stay safe! --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
21.
i disagree with that statement. we have a jumper at our dz with 200plus jumps flying a sabre 170 and pd wouldn't send him a stilleto 150 that he'd load at 1.2 from atair, i spoke with him and we came to the conclusion that for what i'm looking for a 150 would be the best. i plan on buying a 150 anyways, loading around 1.7 (i'm a big guy) they weren't trying to push anything on me. Again, Atair was very friendly with me, called me back on my lunch hour as asked and shipped the canopy on a momment notice. The canopy has great performance aspects, just didn't get the openings i was expecting or that i thought would be safe doing tandem videos with a topmount trv
Again I emphasize I am not trying to start shit on any manufacturer, thats why I did not single any out. I have just heard a few things that lead me to believe some type of marketing device was being employed. Not unbelievable when you consider these companies are making canopies to make money. I just wondered if anyone else had heard about this type of thing? again, I am not saying anything bad about any manufacturer, just trying to ask what you guys have heard/experienced about this type of thing. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
22. hey kevin, talk to Greg. He's been around a little while longer than most and been rigging for a good number of years. He'll be able to tell you the quality of the gear pretty easily. Just make sure what youre buying is safe and will function, and is appropriate for you. I'll see you this weekend if youre around, when my gear finally all comes in, just waiting on my sabre 120 to come in. I think my container is sitting down in manefest office right now. blue skies brother --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
23. whoa...can someone point me in the right direction to decipher what the difference is? What is the best bet for an all purpose around the DZ cam. (read what will I find most compatability with firewiring, comps, etc, or are they both find hardware compatible wise?). Sorry for the newbie Q's, not trying to hijack either... --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
24. i've wanted to do 9 cell no contact crew. I dont have a high performance canopy at all but I think it would be a great way to learn canopy control. Some of the stuff the PD factory team does no contact wise is really cool to watch (and looks like fun to do too). --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
