Wow! the laws are very different there?!? Again, here "Duty to act" is a legal distinction, not a moral one. If you are Identified in any way as a Paramedic/Emt you have to act. This is why you rarely see old medics walking around with stickers on there cars or t-shirts that say "Paragod". But that's all beside the point, I'd help my buddies regardless of the consequences, fuck the law. Not in CA. Good Sam laws DO NOT cover you. You are held to standard of care. So act within it and you are covered...anyways if you are known as a Paramedic at your DZ you have a duty to act and are liable. Omission is as bad as commission here. So if you had gear...your buddy was down, you would do nothing beyond ABC's & c-spine? That's why I said, "If you think it's an ISOLATED mid-shaft fracture, knock yourself out. Pull traction till they stop screaming, if they don't, your either doing it wrong or it wasn't isolated. In any event DON'T MOVE ANYONE & DON"T TAKE THEIR SHIT OFF PLEASE!!!!!!!! Oh yeah...everyone learn to hold c-spine! " I think there is enough major trauma in this sport to warrent a greater level of understanding of EMS then first aid...Where I jump that is the case (blind dumb luck on my part) I've been in EMS a bit as well and the fact is it's the first responders and bystanders that save peoples asses more times then not. Mabey it's an east coast thing that you all don't teach the public to do things, out here you can buy a traction splint with no training, KED makes one especially for climbers. If people are interested in learning more to help their buddies when they slam in, we should be teaching them. Hell, you can't throw a rock without hitting medical professional on my DZ, it can't be that different everywhere else. Lets teach and organize, it might save my ass, and I'm all for that! On point one: I don't think mass has anything to do with it. It would have no effect at all (Newton - Principia Law III Corollary 4). On point two: Not sure about this one, it would seem that it would change the dynamics of spacetime locally, but it would have to be an awful lot of mass to be able to tell. No, there is never Zero gravity as near as we can tell in observable space. The second part, as I understand it, is one of those "never" from a certain point of view deals. College Jumpers: Do you hate frat parties?
WeakMindedFool replied to deaflamb's topic in The Bonfire
Yes I hated them...we used to go to frat parties with the idea of getting into fights. I know, that's lame and intolerant...but surprisingly satisfying. After all, they wanted to fight too! They didn't seem happy about loosing though, give it a try!!! Faith in a holy cause is to a considerable extent a substitute for lost faith in ourselves. -Eric Hoffer - Check out these Videos -
Dude...that sucks!!! In CA an EMT at any level can carry ALL EMT-1 gear and use it at their discretion. In my county (Sacramento) the paramedics can operate at their full scope of practice (including invasive procedures, Rx, Advanced Airway, Electrical therapy) up to Base MD order only shit (ie.Dopemine) We can carry what we require or scavange, we can carry partial equipment...or not (as in my case...why would I want to carry all that stuff around? Oh yeah, I do have a Laryngescope and some McGills) My DZ has ALS gear and more MD's and MICN's then you can shake a stick at. The FD is on the airport and we can launch a bird direct (It may be an auto dispatch). We have two birds within 10 min from wind up to scene...I love my DZ. As for dealing with a Femur...The Idea behind traction is mostly comfort, yes you can save muscle damage and in the highly unlikely event of major artery disection traction or no traction will make no difference, I have found pressure points to be of marginal effectiveness. Torniquet or death in this situation is about it untill a surgen happens by. If you think it's an ISOLATED mid-shaft fracture, knock yourself out. Pull traction till they stop screaming, if they don't, your either doing it wrong or it wasn't isolated. In any event DON'T MOVE ANYONE & DON"T TAKE THEIR SHIT OFF PLEASE!!!!!!!! Oooo...Confined Space no bueno! I was thinking about doing our USAR (TF7 in this area) untill I found out that dragging a SKED 150 feet through an actual cave that you have to back out of because there is no room to turn around, is part of the training. You have bigger balls then me brother. Jump out of airplanes? No problem. Hydrofluric acid leak? I laugh. Stood 100 feet from a BLEVE a few years back that caught an engine and medic on fire while shredding out attack lines with shrappnel. It was fun, confined space? No f@*king way, not with a gun pointed at my head! Faith in a holy cause is to a considerable extent a substitute for lost faith in ourselves. -Eric Hoffer - Check out these Videos

Responder + with flash protection (after what happened in Louisianna, ammonia gets flash protection from us, no shrink wrap for me!). It was an Anhydrous Ammonia leak from a small tank attatched to a blueprint machine. 10x10 room in the middle of the building. We spent 70 min. on air with a 1 hour bottle (thank you skip breathing) and damn if I didn't have 1850 lbs left post decon. Dept. is Sac Metro (that's big Sac!). Wow...wow. No talent? Wow. Dirt-bag loser? OK...I'm with ya! I hate those bands that sing songs about moses leading the jews out of Goshen...and anti meth songs! About the preservation of justice freedom and the preservation of the American way of life through the support of the military. Ya know they say J.Hetfield is a musical genius, he can play ANY stringed instrument as well as drums (he taught Lars how to play). I don't like anything after the Black Album is worth listening to but...Talentless dirt-bag? Dude.. WeakMindedFool replied to WeakMindedFool's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Naa...that would have been cooler...even. The ball on the front is a camera and he wanted to practice shooting exits. They wouldn't let us in the Heli... But damn it was cool opening the door for jumprun and seeing pic 3! And Lee03 your right. Here it's an American Eurocopter A-star 350. Pull Altitude, Snivel and Traffic
WeakMindedFool replied to StearmanR985's topic in Safety and Training
Well actually what they said was, "just wait till the last jumper is 45 degrees frome you...why are you laughing?" So I said, "oh...no reason, I just like jumping out of planes." I WILL NOT tell a guy with thousands of skydives that, "billvon on the internet says..." I believe you BTW. I just count extra seconds while everyone is saying ,"go....GO!!!" It's fun to just sit there and smile at em...lol. Faith in a holy cause is to a considerable extent a substitute for lost faith in ourselves. -Eric Hoffer - Check out these Videos -
Pull Altitude, Snivel and Traffic
WeakMindedFool replied to StearmanR985's topic in Safety and Training
billvon, He was with me at Skydance. We exited from a 182 at 11,900 dumped at 3500. 5 - 10 kts ground winds, 24 kts uppers (at exit) upwind jumprun. Another jumper and I ended up doing a 2-way (jeff I thought you were coming with us BTW). Jeff planned on deploying higher but he ended up sniviling down to us. I was doing my opening stuff headed down and to the wes of the line of flight when he sniveled into where I was and above by about 30 feet verticle mabey 100 to 50 horizontal. We were headed straight at each other. I was on my rear risers at the time. We would have collided with spectacular results as we were pretty dead on. I did a hard right front riser dive as I was below him. It was close but not heart poundingly so. Stearman...damn dude, you should have stayed!!! There's a movie being shot there (hollywood action thing) they had an Astar 350. they wanted to practice some shots so they loaded up the caravan took us to 13,500 and filmed us out. I opeded the door to spot and there was a helocopter RIGHT THERE. We did a speed star and it was keen! The helocopter followed the last guy down (this was planned and done safely, they did a second pass to completely clear the rest of us from the air). So Jeff, come on out again soon, we most def. had a separation problem even if you had a long snivel. I think we should work it out by jumping...alot...and next time we'll exit together then we wont almost hit each other!
