  18. Now, let me ask you this: You think our Congress is pro-troops? You would think so - after all they passed a resolution on Tuesday voicing their support (tax dollars in action). Then later on that day, they passed a cut in benefits for all the military, esp for those that received extra benefits for wartime service. Nice huh? Wonder why Fox didn't report that? WORD! 20. Believe it! Believe the words. It's words to us, as we ponder the equation incarnate before us dissolving back into five-sensory, illusory reality and see the people walk by, the girls with their giggles and the boys with their swaggers, the masters preen and matrons impress - as we watched created witches burn and slaves undress of their very flesh at the word of their unheeding masters - as we hear all voices fade into different anew, constrained by our sleep and embraced by our dream of reason? It may dawn on us, as we ponder an apparently paradoxical riddle, as we reach for our beloved blankets in the night or the arm of our lover or the breath of our children or the ache in our bellies or the blood in our veins or a skin to regarb - as sleep folds like a shroud and we are allowed to live this daily hell that is sleep to the hellishness of awakening, a simple notion: "What do you hold onto, when the door closes behind us?" And the answer, just on the edge of consciousness, just at the brink of rousing, comes wrapped in isolation, laughing in the rain of hyperbole, gleeful at the run of the higher mathematics of the universe itself, pained with a thousand poets' melancholy, mute by the very power that gives it voice, "You." And we may be inane or arrogant or naif enough to think it's weeping for itself. Believe! WOW........WOW......Is that a quote? If it's not...you rule...if it is you still rule for using it!.....WOW
  21. Absolutely correct. You have to follow the steps. If that "repositioning of the airway" works, were good to go. Maybe it's just been my luck but several times i've found people doing rescue breathing on dead people. People are afraid to commit to chest compressions for fear of doing more damage. A little of that mentality is good, alot of it leaves dead people, well...dead. I guess in this crowd I shouldn't worry about people being afraid to jump in with both feet
  22. I do see what you are saying, and I know i'm confusing the issue. I don't want anyone impaired taking my life in their hands! I have one of those jobs that everyone wants drug tested and are tested fequently. If we were not I absolutely would smoke pot. I prefer it to alcohol, always have, always will. I do not smoke because of the testing and so this does vindicate the point of view that testing is an effective deterent. The reason it is effective is because I'm a responsible individual who prizes his job over his recreation. Lets say for the sake of argument that prohibition ended tomorrow, those of us that were deterred begin smoking again...is our society less safe now? We're still responsible people! we make the same value judgments. I would be no more dangerous on the streets or in the air then i was when we had drug laws. Because we drink alcohol in this society does not mean we condone operating heavy machinery under the influence! I would never drink before skydiving and I would never impair myself in any way before doing something that could kill me! Could I beat a drug test? Easily, every day, with very little effort. This would be irresponsible! It's the people who are not deterred who you have to worry about, the people who will be dangerous no matter what. Drug testing stops the people you don't need to worry about anyways. That's all I'm saying. 23. Yeah...Billy got a point. EMT1 is an Entry level Spot. That's true where ever you go. On the West coast you can expect about $30k/yr starting. Full bennies after 6 mos full time with a 401K match up to like $4k/year. That's private amb. In the ER your looking at a little more money and better benefits. Best of all you get inroads to advancement. In house your on a nursing track, in an ambulance your looking at a Paramedic license and either air amb work(which pays like crap here) or Fire which is competitive, but not nearly as bad as it used to be...and no we don't care if your 40! My agency does hire EMT1's but to my knowledge we are the only major fire dept that does. Kevin is right as well, the saves aren't an everyday occurrence....but they happen enough, and they never happen in a prison. 24. When we talk about drug testing, were not talking about seeing if someone is wasted, were talking about testing if someone gets wasted...which is complete bullshit! We have been suckered into the propaganda. Testing for metabolites (which is what your doing with the exception of alcohol) is useless in determining someones current state of mind. Now if your suggesting that we can determine someones fitness for an activity based on lifestyle...we probably aren't going to agree. Show me a way to test someone for impairment and i'll back it provided you have cause. We all know damn well when someone's impaired, drunk, stoned, fatigued, or even stupid. You can't effectively test for the substances that cause real lifestyle deterioration anyways. That is Stimulants, but it becomes pretty obvious pretty fast. So who are we going after? We are going after the people who generally aren't having a problem. The guy who smoked a joint last week. Are you truly afraid of this guy?
