No jump for over 2 years AFF7 for D holders
mjosparky replied to recovercrachead's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
And I can remember when it said you had to make 12 jumps to renew your D license. And time away from the sport sometimes overrides both. You can do that when you own the drop zone. But that still doesn't make it smart. After reading some of your posts maybe they just didn't want the liability. You should try filling in some of you profile. reply]This is not a wingloading and/or jump numbers issue. I think jump numbers are important for the knowledge and restraint that comes with experence. This I agree with completely. Some of the non-swoopers may have very little canopy experence (student) and the last thing they need is a buss job from someone trying to show off. Again you have proven me right.

Now a cutaway at 200 feet is really going to ruin your day but how often to AADs misfire? More than once would be too much in this situation, but as the electronics get better maybe they could use GPS to work out your height above the ground +/- 10 meters with a traditional back up maybe someday allowing this tech to go into production as an advanced AAD. If they work at real hard they might come up with a gadget or gismo to do everything for you and you can just call the jump in from home. People already bitch about the high cost of jumping and adding another layer of complexity to safety devices sure ain’t going help bring it down. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
Also go to PIA web site. They have a more extensive list of canopies that is too large to attach. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Who makes and sells this setup? It is a knife that comes in an ejection seat survival kit (seat pan) and I made the pocket. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

I'm not splitting hairs. You want to start drawing lines in the sand based on perception of risk. Watch out because other's perceptions differ from yours and what goes around comes around. Watch out because other's perceptions differ from yours and what goes around comes around.Quote If someone’s perception of safe is to swoop through a crowed landing area they are the ones that need to “watch out”. ... everyone’s rights stop when they affect the safety of others. Its that simple. I am done here. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

I believe if it is test with an RSL, the RSL becomes part of the TSO. AS8015-B 4.3.6.2 Breakaway Drop Tests: Eight drops shall be made by a person weighing not more than the maximum operating weight by breaking away from an open and normally functioning main parachute canopy with a vertical velocity of less than 20 FPS (6.1 m/s) at the time of breakaway and actuating the reserve pack within 2 s of the breakaway. If a reserve static line is part of the assembly, no less than 4 of the breakaway drops shall be made with the reserve static line actuating the reserve pack. The parachute canopy must be functionally open within the time +2 s, or altitude, obtained in 4.3.6 from the time of breakaway. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Michel Fournier Postpones Le Grand Saut Until 2007

Yea, what he said.

You are probably right, I didn't count them. The point I was trying to make is that El Cap has and can be jumped safely with skydiving gear. Like other BASE jumps, the important thing is the preparation. That can include practice launches from balloons and good coaching. How do we answer the experienced skydiver who said of El Cap he sees no reason he can't, "Fly down a 1000-feet with his skydiving rig and open at 2000-feet." Okay, sounds easy enough until you look back at other skydivers who tried similar plans.Quote And you can look back at other BASE jumpers whose plan failed and they were using BASE gear. As you said, gear is a tool and success or failure is in how it is used. "Don't BASE jump at the drop zone – and don't skydive at the Flat Iron Building." I couldn’t agree more. Now how do we get people on both sides of the debate to do just that? My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Velocity Hard Opennings !!! The ANSWER
mjosparky replied to Perriscicaba's topic in Gear and Rigging
Mainly because I got tired of people say "line dump" caused hard openings and you need to double stow the lines. Plus I bore easily. There is little if any change in the way the canopy deploys using this bag. Line twists were nerve an issue with this canopy but I think this bag help prevent bag “whip” which contributes to line twists and tension knots. No I have never tried tuck tabs, they are a real pain in the ass to design right. I have made a couple with “baby” snaps and they seemed to work well. Thank you. -
As I have said before the decision to chop or not is yours and yours alone, because you are up there alone. You have to make that decision based on your best judgment and the knowledge you have when you left the plane. In both your cutaways I may or may not have done the same. But I will never second guess you for how you handled them.

Since Rob was repeating what I posted I will respond. Driving is not a right, it is a privilege. Driving to work doing 70 mph down a residential street is an avoidable risk. Swooping through a crowded landing area is an avoidable risk. When your actions increase the risk of serious injury or death of others, whether in skydiving or driving down the street you are wrong. This has nothing to do with BASE jumping or the beer line. It is about dangerous canopy flying in the main landing area. There is a difference and I think you know it. I also think you are splitting hairs just to argue. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Jerry, You are right; the 15 lb. pull for chest mount did not appear until TSO-C23c to affect. I keep forgetting that there are still some people alive that were around went TSO-C23b was the rule. -
