  1. Thank you Kolla. That had to be awhile ago, I can't remember ever see one. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  2. Is this PD-176 7 cell a reserve or a Lighting? I am not aware of regular main of that size made by PD. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  3. Were you responding to me? My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  4. The only 176 sq. ft. main PD makes that I am aware of is the Lighting and that is a CREW specific canopy. Are you sure you want one for your only main canopy? My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  5. A Tempo 210 is a long way from a Raven IV. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  6. At 225 out the door a PD-176R is too small for you with your experience. A wing loading of 1.3 on a 7 cell reserve is somewhere you don’t want to go. Hell you don’t want to be on a main at that loading for awhile. I notice from your profile that you jump in Northern California. I would suggest that you go to Bay Area Skydiving in Byron and talk to Bonnie at Gravity Gear. This sort of thing is always easier to handle face to face. Bonnie is with Gravity Gear. She is very knowledgeable and will not try to sell you something you can’t use or is not safe for you. In any case, with 50 jumps and a weight of 225 out the door stay away from a PD-176. jmo
  7. Kevlar lines IMO would fit in with spectra. We are talking before there was a BT-40 I think. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  8. I had over 500 jumps on the old “trash pack” using a CruisAir. And that was before the wide spread use of “Pro Packing”. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  9. Someone's opinion differs from yours so they are "ignorant and closed minded" Kettle meet Pot. QuoteAnd thats how I see your response. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  10. Good judgment is like "common sense". It is not all that common anymore. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  11. Boy was that a lucky guess or what. Calculate your wing loading by the sq. ft. given by the manufacture. I can show you a third way to measure canopies but it won’t change the canopy’s size. First of all, how much do you weigh? My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  12. Are you saying that the navy was using high performance, highly loaded 'swooping' canopies for this test ? why would they have any interest in doing that? I am not saying anyting, you are.
  13. Possible but not very likely. I think that you will find that most students that feel they are a part of this breed end up in a wheel chair or dead. There is very little if anything that people learn before they jump they can be applied to skydiving. That is one reason the initial learning curve is so steep. 14. He was caught off guard because he did not know what to expect from his reserve. That is not the canopies fault. A reserve is a F-111 7 cell and will not fly like the ZP 9 cell or elliptical. Saying he stalled the canopy on landing is not putting another spin on it, it is what happened. Canopies are just pieces of fabric and line, they do not do anything; they react to what the canopy pilot does with the control lines. When someone hammers in under a main you do not blame the canopy. It is the jumper’s fault. It could be he picked the wrong main but he picked the canopy the canopy did not pick him. Small elliptical canopies do not kill jumpers, jumpers flying small elliptical canopies kill themselves. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  15. My feelings exactly. If you want information you should be willing to give some. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  16. Canopies do not throw jumpers “down in a stall”. The canopy will do just what you tell it to do. I think what you meant to say is your friend stalled the canopy when he was attempting to land it. If he was such a good canopy pilot why did he get caught off guard? If this is the one I think it is the reserve was deployed into a P/C in tow and the canopy was damaged by the PC. In the first case with the reserve loaded to 1.3, that is a high loading for a plain Jane 7 cell canopy. Even PD puts a cap of around 1.3 something on their reserves for expert canopy pilots. At this loading the control range is very narrow and the canopy will stall with the toggles at shoulder height or higher. In the second case the guy was way over the maximum weight limit and approaching the test weight. But even then the canopy saved his life. That is a good policy. But do not bad mouth a product you have not seen work or tried for yourself. Don't repeat what other say. Develop your own knowledge and let them repeat what you say.
  17. Why would you do that having a riggers knowledge? I dont know you but have read some of your posts that indicate you are a 'larger' guy Just curious... Where do you think "riggers knowledge" comes from? There is a lot going on that you don't know about until you get the free ride at the end.
  18. And you would lose your bet. You should never gamble without some knowledge of the game.
  19. QuoteI wonder if there are more tension knots when the lines are thinner, or when a larger amount is left unstowed? My bet would be the thinner lines. I only use the 2 locking stows on my main but the lines are big old fat braided Dacron. Can you remember a case of “tension knots” before the wide spread use of Spectra? 20. How about looking at something in 200/210 range for both main and reserve. You have only just started jumping, there will be plenty of time to go small and bust your ass. No need to rush. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  21. Do you any specific reasons that you feel PD 1st., Smart 2nd. ect.? I have heard of reserves of all brands blow up, fly poorly and land like shit. But I have never had it happen to me. I have jumped PD, Smart, Tempo, Raven and several brands of rounds. I must just be lucky. This is how urban legends and myths start. I heard from a guy who talked to a guy whose brother…….. 22. Do you get shot at much while skydiving Ever do a demo into Compton CA. ? My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  23. How is fluffing up the canopy going to change the size of the bag it goes into? I agree with Hookit, that does not make sense. It seems like sort of a flip response to a question regarding a reserve. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  24. No "sorry" needed. I like mine better plus it offers balistic protection.
