Re: [Tonto] Fatality x 6 - Plane Crash - MO - 29 July 2006

As was mentioned before, several times a year at demos. Used to do one for the City Bell and due to the approach to LAX we were lucky to get 2,000 feet. Roll out of a 206 with 15 lbs. of flag hanging around my waist, get open, deploy flag, find target and try not to forget to smile for the kiddies. But that is why they paid us the “Big Bucks.” -
What would make you "turn in" someone to the FAA?

Yes I have heard of "safety meeting". If you respect riggers a great deal why would lump them all together and infer that they are dopers? Not cool. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -

I don't really think that was the point he was trying to make. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

That’s what you get for jumping a 5 cell. My last cutaway was because of broken lines. 3 A's and 3 B's. I didn't ever do a controllably check, hell I didn't even release the brakes. Chopped it right away. Unlike a round canopy a damaged ram air will almost always get worse. More than one line and any damage that involves a seam kiss it off. jmo My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

I think it was around 1980 +- I jumped an X210 main for a short time. Af the CruiseAir it was a pretty good canopy.
-
I believe the X-210R was made by GQ Security and it was made as a main also.

I call bullshit, how can you claim this when you don't know a “significant percentage of riggers” in this country. Credibility near zero. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
Drop in the number of Skydivers

I am no big fan of USP, but USPA bullshit rules had nothing to do with you lack of logging or being able to verify your jump history. You chose not to participate in USPA and now it is their fault? Sorry doesn't wash. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
Just wanted to reassure people that three really is a "dorkzone" and more then likely dorks can be found there.

A H&P is deploying just as you pass the tail. Any longer and it would be a stable delay. -
Hindsight is a wonderful thing especially when you can use it ahead of time.

Thanks John, but I suspect he is just having a little fun pulling this old man's chain. No harm, its been done before by smarter. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

You picked those colors, I just assumed that they fucked up the order.

Have you ever had to use a hook knife in a real bad situation? You need to back up and re-evaluate the way you view gear and how it functions. I fear you do not have a realistic understanding of the whole picture. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

And the point of all this speed packing is what? With a reserve loaded at almost 1.6:1 you had better hope you continue with no malfunctions. PD says max for an expert is under 1.4:1. Good luck My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

I would say yes I do. I have been known to get very familiar with my gear. With the main still an option (i.e. dont deploy/chop it first), i'd don't think it's entirely 'plain stupid' and without merit. I would say both, most rules and procedures in skydiving are written in blood. And I would prefer to keep it in someone else’s blood. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

They are called “Manned Free Balloons” and are covered under FAR Part 31 for Airworthiness Standards and Part 43 for Maintenance, Preventive Maintenance, Rebuilding, And Alteration. They are flown under Part 91, General Operating And Flight Rules. Sec. 91.307 Parachutes and parachuting. (a) No pilot of a civil aircraft may allow a parachute that is available for emergency use to be carried in that aircraft unless it is an approved type and-- If they are tethered they are not “Manned Free Balloons” and not covered by any FAA regulations.

But you are 100% right. Reserves from other manufactures would be set up the same way if there intended use was for demo jumping the canopy I was referring to production reserve canopies not used for demos. Precision made the Raven series of canopies as both mains and reserves and they all came with packing taps and bridle attachments.

In light of recent history it would have better to have passed on this thread. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -

Getting out a 500 feet at 90 Kt. is about the same as being in freefall at about 1100 to 1200 feet. You have about 6 seconds + - before impact. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
Precision Aerodynamics, Ravens in particular is the only company that I know of that has bridle attachments on their reserves.
