There are a couple of little girls at home that think you matter a whole bunch Daddy. What the rest of the world thinks doesn't matter. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Drop in the number of Skydivers

Go to any popular ski resort and see what going main stream has done for them. The operators make more money and the skiers wait in line. Growth for the sake of growth usually screws up a good thing. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
Roads more dangerous than skydiving??????

I think it is an A license requirement :) It may be an "A" license requirement but doing it once or twice is not what I call "knowing how to spot". My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -

Riggers and manufactuers..MB for reserve handle?
mjosparky replied to Sky15's topic in Gear and Rigging
Are you sure you mean Martin Baker handle? I havn't seen one used on sports gear for years. Does it look like this? My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
Just to be sure I understand. In your country they use a type of logbook something like we use a "packing data card" for reserve canopies. Does this logbook stay with the reserve canopy if the rig is split up? Is there a second logbook for the harness/container? It sounds like you are saying that this “logbook” stays with someone other then the owner of the rig. Is this right? In the US we have a problem with packing data cards. There is only one with a complete rig and if the rig is split up the card goes with the reserve canopy. I think there should be a mandatory second card for the H/C so a rigger working on it has a history available. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

How many even know how to spot and that is as basic as you can get? As I posted, that is "just my opinion". Weather you agree or not is up to you. -
Losing wedding ring in freefall?

Tom, Maybe I spent too much time as a Firefighter, but trust me, it does happen a lot. I would say the finger in this picture did not happen with full body weight or high speed. But I bet it hurt like hell. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
Drop in the number of Skydivers
mjosparky replied to skrovi's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I am pretty sure that the fatality rate has stayed fairly constant over the last 20/30 years. The wide spread use of AADs has all but eliminated the bounce with nothing out but people dying under good canopies has taken up the slack. Booths Law #2: "The safer skydiving gear becomes, the more chances skydivers will take, in order to keep the fatality rate constant." My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
Roads more dangerous than skydiving??????

That’s really over simplified and not very informative. How many times have you spotted for a 4-plane formation with 60 mph upper winds 110 degrees to the ground winds? It involves a bit more then “exit at the right time.” When I said “work load” I was referring to the overall mental and physical activity required to make a 60 second skydive. All the small little moves to fall stable, turn the point, make the dock or chase the space ball. All this must be done while traveling at 100 to 200 mph while avoiding the other bodies in the air also traveling at 100 to 200 mph. The only road map you have to follow is what happened during the dirt dive back on the ground. Since there has yet to be a perfect skydive you have to constantly update that road map as the moves of yourself or others change the course of the dive. Again this must be done while going at warp speed in 3 dimensions. Speed up, slow down, and go right, go left, hold and track like hell. And minor miscalculation by you or someone else can at best screw up the dive and at the worst kill you or your buddy. This is before you even think of deploying your canopy, which lead to a whole other bag of worms. The only time I have seen a jump fall into what you call “basic” was during testing and “torso dummies” preformed them. If you continue to believe that skydiving is a simple thing I predict the time will come when it will bit you in the butt. jmo My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
You list swooping as your main activity and you jump a Pilot? A good swooper can swoop a Manta.

350 Newtons is around 78 pounds. That is one hell of a lot of traction when applied to one finger. I think it would be much smarter and cheaper to leave the ring on the ground. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -

Good for you. I don't think I have ever heard some one say they wish they and not wasted their time leaning something new. -

With 110 jumps you jump a main loaded at 1.32:1 but are worried about going without an AAD for a couple of jumps. Read the fatality reports and see what decision is more likely to kill you My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -

While you're there, make a donation. The service may appear free to us, but Jim can keep it running only for so long while he's absorbing all the costs. Mark I sent in a donation and have not been able to get a response to my emails. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

It used to be all of them. But then skydiving went from being a sport to a recreation. Next they will have valet parking, serve Perrier between loads and day care for the kiddies. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Party with the Founding Fathers

I think John is the only one jumping regularly. Paul Gorman, Deke Dillon and Lou Paproski started jumping again in the mid 90’s after a long lay off. They jumped up until the Drop Zone at Apple Valley closed. That’s about the time Deke screwed his ankle up pretty bad. You know that Lou died this past March. I think Brian Williams jumped at the Old Farts in late 2004 and I am not sure about Jim Dann. But Jim did say he has been sober for 7 years. Hank Asciutto quit last year due an old ankle injury the makes landings less then fun. As for the Sweeny brothers, I don’t think either one has jumped in years. Paul has a party every year, you should try and make it next year.
