Where have all the July 4 demos gone?
mjosparky replied to itllclear's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
If everything goes right on a demo those requirements might seem over the top. But if things go just a little bit side ways they seem to have some validity. The hardest thing for a good demo jumper to do is just say NO. And that can’t be tested and jump numbers doesn’t guarantee it. It comes from common sense and leaving the ego at home. Bill Booth's Three Rings Inspire "Mainstream" Fashion

My mistake, not the owner but there when it started. Google Michael Parnell and Oakley. He was on Visions/Coors. Al Kruger of the same team is a VP with Oakley. "When he took Oakley public in 1995, Jannard and his chief lieutenant Michael Parnell took out $154 million in cash...and they still held 72% of the company's stock." it's tight but looks nice generally I think sunpath sizes the container too loose, so when one wants to downsize it calls for a new one thanks for the answer, I will try 119 in mine, hope it's not too lose The pack tray is designed for 282 to 304 cu. in. and you have 343 cu. in. stuffed in it. But thats OK because it "looks nice". That seems like a valid reason to over pack the container. And you are right, they do everything they can to make sure you have to buy a new rig if you downsize. It’s their mission in life. I think that is called rationalizing My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

PD does not make a 189 reserve.

How much of the Mojave Desert do you think there is in you “legacy” Sabre? That might be your extra pack volume.

Party with the Founding Fathers
mjosparky replied to mjosparky's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
I went to a party/barbeque today and it was like Skydiving History 101. The party was held at Paul Gorman’s house. Paul was one of the original Arvin Good Guys, was in the first 10 man formation and holds SCR-29. It was attended by the following: Brian Williams - Arvin Good Guys, first 8 man formation, first 10 way formation, SCR-8. Jim Dann – Arvin Good Guys, first 8 man, first 10 man, SCR-6. Bill Newell – Arvin Good Guy, first 8 man, first 10 man, SCR-3, originator of SCR-SCS Awards. Deke Dillon – Arvin Good Guys, SCR-17. Hank Asciutto – 10 way speed star National Champion, 10 way World Champion, one of the first to build “light weight” gear, invented the diaper for reserves, co-inventor of the curved pin for mains, SCR-614, SCS-117. John DeSantis, SCR-65, long time USPA Director. Jay Sweeney - SCR-105, SCS-105 The stories were great. -
Remember the guy that went to Kitty Hawk with me. R.B. Well he bought one for his mother when she came out from New York to visit. She was so proud of the shirt her little boy got her; she was walking around Perris showing it off. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Oakley was started by skydivers and I think still owned by a skydiver. A world champion in fact. -

C. Experience and ability Back to Section 7-1 1. Open Field and Level 1, as defined by USPA and accepted by the FAA (all of the following): a. USPA C license or higher b. minimum 200 jumps c. 50 jumps within the past 12 months d. five jumps within the previous 60 days using the samd model and size canopy to be used on the demonstration jump 2. Level 2 and Stadium, as defined by USPA and accepted by the FAA (all of the following): a. hold the USPA PRO rating (required by the BSRs) b. 50 jumps within the past 12 months c. five jumps within the previous 60 days using the samd model and size canopy to be used on the demonstration jump Since you average only 35 jumps a year you may not qualify for a demo even with a Pro Rating. I spotted the King Air mentioned above, N32229, for a 30,000 ft. load a few years ago. We all pile out and buzz around like fools and open by 4,000 ft. One guys on the load over shot the pea pit by about 6 or 7 feet. He turns around to me, I landed in the peas, and says "The fucking spot was long". Some people are never happy.

New Ownership and policies at Bay Area Skydiving

I have 2 from when Cy Perkins ran Elsinore and 1 from when PI was in charge. I am willing to let these rare and valuable artifacts go for a very reasonable price. -
Lets pretend that you never even thought this much less posted it. Forget the fact that you even have an RSL. Do your EPs like you are all alone without help from anyone or anything. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Do you mean an X-210 from Security or a Spirit 228 as a reserve? It's an old Parachutes Australia reserve. Never heard of that one. Thanks. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

There is a jumper in So. Cal. that has kept his rig in the trunk of his car every day for the last 25+ years. The only time is comes out is to jump. He has had 3 rigs in that time and makes 2 to 3 hundred a year. When packing his reserve I have not been able to notice any appreciable difference between his rigs and ones that have been stored "properly". I am not suggesting that storing your gear in your car is a good idea. But I do believe that it is far less damaging then is commonly thought. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Of Interest to OLD OLD OLD Spaceland Jumpers
mjosparky replied to efs4ever's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
Somewhere I have some form a road trip to jump the Otters in 1979. Dave Boatman and Mike Smith were running it then. I was on the load where they had their first bounce, I remember the humidity was so high I had to shorten my loop twice in 4 days. If I can locate them I’ll post a few. N3229, and it is a very special King Air.

You put the student under the same size reserve as the main and the chances of stalling are about the same. As Rob said, you load the student main like some people load their reserves and you will have the same result. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
