    The only times I saw anything like that used it was called a “ripcord stop”. They were usually a lead fishing weight and only used on mains. They served 2 purposes. First, they kept the ripcord form coming all the way out of the housing so the jumper did lose it trying to stuff it back in the housing or his jumpsuit. Second, by having the ripcord in the housing on landing, in the pea pit of course, there was less chance of gravel sneaking into the housing if the ripcord was in there.     Never do a dive with an AAD that you would not do without one. Its a bad mind set to get into. You are betting it will save you if you fuck up. Maybe yes and maybe no.

And when you can give me the probability of that with one vs the probability of going in with without one I'll be able to make an informed decision, until then I'm left with my armchair guesswork to base my gear decision on. And that begs the question; can you give the probability of going in without one vs. the probability of going is with one? I don't think so. So what is your point? You just made my point again.     I have read all 5 pages of this thread. The whining, complaining and bitching from one side and the lame ass excuses from the other side. Some of the complaints appear to be the actions of day care center kids not getting their own way and the responses from those running WFFC, or complete lack of, are a joke. Saying we are just volunteers and we are doing the best we can does not get the job done. This guy Don must live under a rock if he is not aware of the problems. I have only found one post, and it was from a different thread, where someone is taking action to improve the situation. And this post was from someone who does not work for the convention.     Jerry, I suspect that both things come into play. Also a different day, a different operator, done at a different location, the variables are endless. I am sure they must exist but I have never seen written procedures to be used when measuring canopy volume or anything that specifies the equipment to be used.
