You should talk to Stacy. 500+ jumps and every single one of her landings have at least some comedic value to them. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

I'm not assuming anything. It seems though that you are assuming that Wendy's comment was directed at you and you alone. I think you missed the point. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

That's absolutely not a crock of of macho SH*T. It's the truth. The idea being that if you expect a jump to be so dangerous that you feel you need a Cypres you shouldn't be on that jump in the first place. Get it? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

When I think I'm going to land off I ask myself a few questions: * Can I make it back and get into the pattern? * Can I make it back and land away from everyone else? * Can I make it back without skimming the treetops? If I can make it back and get into the pattern that's great. If I can make it back and cut the pattern short or modify the pattern but do it at the far end of the landing area away from everyone else I'll consider it. If I'm not certain I can make it back without skimming the treetops I'll land off, every time. There's nothing wrong with landing off if you have the outs, landing off safely is always better than landing on at the expense of your or your fellow jumpers safety. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. What the hell. This one is always fun. Me? I jump with a Cypres, I jump like it's not there, I will jump without a Cypres and do on occasion. Your friend sounds scary. Sorry. "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

Interesting that you had problems on yours Richard. I put about 30 jumps on a Sabre 2 170 @ close to 1.5 and didn't experience any hard openings, I did however experience some off heading ones. I thought it was one of the nicer canopies in the 'semi-elliptical/slightly-tapered' class that I've flown. The price however was prohibitive, I'll stick with my Safire for now. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

Hmm. It would be great if Bill would post the downside of the teflon cables. I'm sure a lot of people here are interested in hearing them. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

In the door. During a funnel if people don't let go. On deployment. (Reaching for the risers/Getting caught in twists) You already mentioned landing. Those come to mind immediatly, I'm sure that there are probably more ways to break a finger in this sport too. Be safe. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

1 Brand new rig ordered today:3:0 Column two would have been higher if it weren't for the damn Canadians and their fires. Kick a Canadian. It's fun.
-
Don't even get me started. I've named today "Kick a Canadian" day. If your jumping was affected by the fires then please, find a Canadian and kick them in the shin while cursing about not jumping today (and yesterday afternoon too) Damn Canadians. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. This is very interesting when you consider that those screaming the loudest about gun control are from GB and Australia. Hmm.... Gun control, yeah, that'll work. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

I believe that you can have individual lines replaced. Any master rigger should be able to do the work. That's only as simple as $45.00 repack if: * You don't lose your reserve pilot chute. Those are expensive. * You don't lose your handles. I think about $60.00 for the pair. * You don't lose your main canopy. Believe it or not, it does happen. Remember, your reserve is subject to the same long list of malfunctions as your main. Including, as we've recently seen, tearing at the line attachment points or just plain being destroyed upon deployment. Like Bill already mentioned, I think it's OK to fight with correcting a lineover as long as you can and do keep careful track of your altitude. My reserve isn't coming out unless I'm certain I've done everything I can do to land my main, and more importantly myself in one piece. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. I think they're fine, just be sure you have another pair, clear or yellow, for sunset and other conditions when dark or tinted are less than ideal. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

Wow. What a great idea! Just one more way that skydivers can take care of other, usually less fortunate skydivers with something as simple as a blood donation. It might be interesting to see DZs everywhere do something like this and donate the credits to jumpers in need and the communities in which they are located. That could/would be some pretty decent PR for the local DZs. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

More on the goggles thread, although not related to swim goggles. I see a lot of people jumping with the 'cool' goggles, ones like these: Blaze http://www.sunshine-factory.com/cgi-bin/data/db.cgi?db=sf&uid=default&view_records=1&ID=1136 Peerser "Extreme" Goggles http://www.sunshine-factory.com/cgi-bin/data/db.cgi?db=sf&uid=default&view_records=1&ID=2673 Torsan http://www.sunshine-factory.com/cgi-bin/data/db.cgi?db=sf&uid=default&view_records=1&ID=1139 While these goggles certainly look cooler than the simple Flex Z goggles http://www.sunshine-factory.com/cgi-bin/data/db.cgi?db=sf&uid=default&view_records=1&ID=1130 they limit your periphial vision significantly. If you currently wear the 'cool' goggles I challenge you to try one of the simpler, yet less stylish designes like the Flex Zs. You'll see your skydive in a whole new way, you'll see more of your skydive and I think that's especially important as skydives get more complex and speeds increase. The more complete field of vision provided by goggles such as the Flex Zs is also important as we share the skies with more and more canopies, especially given the speed and manuverability of the modern wing. Stay safe. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

Probably because your reserve isn't guaranteed to work any more than the main you just cut away. Remember, it's a parachute, and like all parachutes it is subject to malfunctions. That's why. Is it likely you'll be able to find the correct line and cut it, after Hook's experience it sounds doubtful. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

What I was talking about had absolutely nothing to do with Rhino's behavior. It had/has to do with the behavior of others and the tolerance of said behavior. Others on this site have made personal attacks without incident. Rgoper's original statement said something about do two wrongs make a right? Do they? I realize that this isn't a democracy, but if we're going to have rules then shouldn't they apply equally to everyone? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

I agree with this. There are a few who seem to go out of their way to taunt those who they do not like or are deemed 'unpopular'. The taunts are obvious, at least to me. It does seem like a double standard and that just sucks. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

Isn't this the type of question that is best suited for the manufacturer to answer? I would think that it is. Here's Atair's contact info: 160 Coffey Street Brooklyn, NY 11231 USA phone: 718-923-1709 fax: 718-923-1733 info@extremefly.com Since this type of thing is probably canopy specific I really can't think of anyone better to answer your question. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. I don't know that tape would have helped. That canopy opened so hard that almost her entire side was bruised. I'm glad she's OK though. That was not a good weekend. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

I just do it to drive you nuts Lisa. Don't worry, I'll recommend a 28" pilot chute to the next one. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

I noticed in the incidents forum that it says at the bottom of the page that I have permission to delete my own posts. Not so in Talk Back. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

Why do people come here for answers and not to their jumpmasters and S&TAs? Anyhow, the standard answer is that you want a docile parachute loaded at anywhere between .8:1 and 1:1. Some 9 cell parachutes to look at are: * PD 1XX * Sabre * Sabre 2 * Safire Some 7 cell parachites to look at are: * Spectre * Triathalon * Omni * Omega 9 cell parachutes traditionally have more glide, this might make it easier to get back from a long spot. 7 cell parachutes traditionally have less glide, making a bit more difficult to get back from the long spot. Each have their advantages and their disadvantages. Do yourself a favor and try to fly as many canopies as you can before you buy. The best thing you can do right now is to ask your jumpmasters, S&TAs, and people you respect at your DZ. The people here haven't seen you fly and are really in no position to recommend a specific parachute for you. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

Is there anywhere on dz.com where there is a list of advertisments? I'd like to track down a banner I just saw, but prefer not to click 20 times until I find it. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

Well, if you're having problems landing the canopy then it might be in your best interests to seek out some advise at the local DZ. It shouldn't be difficult to find someone who can explain the basics you need to know to start standing up most if not all of your landings. It's really nothing more than a little education and a little practice. Good luck. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
