How many times do you look at your altimeter during a jump?
Jimbo replied to bananna's topic in The Bonfire
Aint that the truth! I started getting worried on my last RW dive, my internal clock was telling me it's time to pull and pull now, my altimeter was telling me I had plenty of time. Talk about conflict. Anyway, I usually check it once in freefall (my internal clock seems to be pretty accurate), once immediatly after I'm open (I don't know why, but for some reason I like to know), and once before I start the pattern. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. Ask whoever told you that why Psycho packing shortens the life of your canopy. That's absurd. A proper psycho pack won't shorten the life of your canopy anymore than a proper PRO pack. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

August 3rd to August 11th. Thank God for my good credit! - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

Huh huh. Cool. I'm priviledged. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

Actually, as long as we're playing, see that word up there in bold type? I think you meant "that's", it is a contraction for "that is." - Jim Edited, The punctuation mark is now inside the quotes. Damnit, I knew that too. "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

??:11:0 It was a good weekend, hot as hell, but good - no, make that a GREAT weekend. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

OH NO! Break out the long johns and the down coats! We're gonna freeze! - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

The Lotus is airlocked. I've never jumped one, but I suspect that might make a nice canopy for a beginner. Airlocked isn't necessarily a bad word. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

I have to ask, what's 'cold' in sunny California? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

Maybe because they're different canopies from different companies? Contrary to popular belief, the Hornet is not a Sabre, it's a Hornet. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

It would be nice if they put those, and the numbers for the year and past years on the website. Making them available at a meeting that only a fraction of the membership can even think about attending doesn't mean much. It's a nice gesture, but get them out in the public. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

Tell me about it! This is going to cost me a FORTUNE! It'll be worth every damn penny though. I can't wait. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

I hate to see people get hurt as much as anyone else does, but does a single incident provide enough data to even begin thinking that there's a flaw in the design? I could understand this if Ninjas were collapsing every day/weekend/month, but a single incident? That doesn't make any sense to me. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. I was waiting for this to come up. A parachuting museum benefits the jumping community how? This should, in my opinion, be a private endeavor and not paid for by the membership. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

I realize that insurance prices are going up. I'd like someone to explain to me though why a new building is necessary. That seems to me like an unnecessary expense. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

I'm sure that the purchase of a shiny new building had nothing to do with the price increase. What's wrong with the current building? How many people does the USPA employ? How many people are actually in that office at any given time? Seems like a frivilous expense to me. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

So do the Crossfire, Crossfire 2, Diablo, Vengeance, and most, if not all of the elliptical canopies. The only canopies I've seen that don't get that big are cross braced. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

The performance benefits aren't limited to high-performance canopy pilots either. I fly a Safire 189 loaded at around 1.3 or 1.4 and notice a significant difference in the flare when the chest strap is loose. I'm sure that the benefits are more dramatic when flying a highly loaded swoop machine, but they don't stop there. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

I'm currently in the market for a new canopy, so humor me and tell me what it is that you like about the Crossfire and what you don't like about the Cobalt. I'm all ears. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

Sluggish compared to what? It's certainly going to be sluggish compared to the 87, maybe someone with a bit more experience should jump the canopy and evaluate it for her. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed. -
Damn dude! It's awsome to hear you're doing well. Keep up the positive attitude and you'll be back in no time. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

And that's exactly why jumpers should know that the marks are a suggestion and not gospel. I've come across too many people who just don't get that. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

Why do people think that a canopy has an exact spot where the brakes should be? The factory certainly attempts to mark the brakes at a spot that should work for everyone, however this does not take into account different size risers, different arm lengths, different flying styles, different experience levels, etc.... There is no 'magic' spot where the brakes should be set, it is I believe, a matter of preference. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

Maybe I'm displaying my own ignorance here, but didn't the last group of tax and spend democrats have a balanced budget? Last I checked the don't tax and don't spend republicans in this administration had created a 100 and something billion dollar deficit. No, I don't have a strong allegiance to either party, I vote for the candidate with the best platform. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
