Getting back into skydiving after a break
bluepill replied to Emmie's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Hi Emmie, I had a very long lay off (9+ years) and just got back in the air 2 weeks ago. I too was a little nervous. Mostly about my confidence, awareness and expectations. For me it was really the reactions of everyone at the DZ. From the first point of me calling them to enquire about jumping again to my debrief with my instructor after refresh. The experience I had was nothing but a genuine desire to get me in the air safely and warmth to have me back in the 'family'. Best decision I ever made. Call up your old DZ, I'm sure they will be delighted to hear from you and help get your knees back in the breeze. Good luck. BP -

I would shine his beak like he has never had it shined before... I just fell off my perch. BP -

Whuffos / How would you describe skydiving?
bluepill replied to Tuna-Salad's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I used to say the same thing, and went on to talk about all that I am not on a death wish and talk about AD and reserve drills. But eventually after seeing a sea of blinking eyes all the time, I gave up on that and just tell them what they want to hear. The last whuffo I spoke to today, I told him I shook hands with the pilot of the plane through his window after I had jumped out of the back. He said "really" and I just replied with, "oh yeh" If they are genuinely interested, I go back to the pool. BP -

I'm in the UK so can't recommend anywhere in New England, but hey, welcome to skydiving and dropzone.com. If you get qualified, come over to the 'real' England and jump with us limeys BP -
And with any luck the rain and grey cloud will clear off in the next few days.

Yep I am good to fly solo again but working my way down to my canopy on rented rigs 230 - 210 - then probably my 190. BPA renewal and 'A' application in post. Not back yet. Will need a few more jumps at Nethers. Hopefully weather will be good enough on Fri or Sat to get them in and then see you Sun or Mon. Figers crossed for the weather. BP

Hope so, although I will need to rent a 210 until I am signed-off to fly my 190. DEFINITELY Absolutely, PM me the plan, presumably I will have to register for it as well? BP

It's been a long long time. I have been a member here and posted a bit for a while.. However I have not jumped for almost 10 years. For one reason or another, something always came up. But deep down I knew that eventually I would return. Or at least that is what I thought, until last year when 'life changing events' took me down a path I thought I would never walk. At that time I turned to this place in a cry for help, a last 'desperate' plea, I expected nothing. But people I never knew responded, gave me hope, advice, shared their experiences and made me feel not alone in my pain. That was last year. This past weekend, I completed my refresher training and made my return to the sky and completed my return to this great 'family' of ours. It feels so good to be back and I thank everyone who helped me. So this is me re-introducing myself as a 'bon-a-fide' skydiver. BP
