I'm telling you, there is nothing worse than an emotional, out of control female. It's by the numbers, I'm sure her family will sue and the airport will settle. My guess is she was put in the holding cell, she kept kicking and screaming so she was shackled to a bar in the holding cell. We have one we use in these situations. We are required to check on a prisoner every 15 min. If the person mentions suicide in any way then we watch them until a life squad arrives. Could'nt agree more! But enforcement action is a necessary part as well. I always try to be courteous, and expect the same of my guys. National Accreditation has a alot to do with standards and practices. I'm fortunate to work for one of only three departments in my state to have CALEA accreditation. My officers get the same credit for a business check or a walking beat detail, as they do an enforcement action The "tax" comment eludes to those who always make it a point to say they pay my salary, especially for those who are doing something wrong. As far as quality of of life issues goes, would you want your neighborhood filled with junked cars? If you improve ones qualilty of life, they tend to take more pride in where they live, this has a direct impact on the crime rate. Do some reading, google the "broken windows" style of community policing. Yes, I'm (still) a military guy, have been for 25 yrs. Please........................., All you "I pay your taxes", "they ain't too bright", or the secret mindset crowd, how do we measure performance of an officers duties? The point I was trying to make was cops are very competitive people, the Lt. apparently was trying to tap that energy to improve performance. The article goes on to say there was no significant spike in arrests. There was a spike in impounded vehicles, that is a quality of life issue and should have been enforced in the first place. The military guy in me used the term "troops", sorry if it put a few panties in a bunch. I also said it was a bad idea from a perception point of view. A good idea, implemented in a bad way. The media is taking this way out of context. I think the Lt. here was just trying to motivate his troops, I would'nt be surprised if one of the slackers he is referring to dropped a dime to the media so they would'nt have to work. Very accruate, I'd put the number at 95%, but then again I'm biased I use the 60-40% rule while I'm working. 20% of the people don't like cops, the government, or authority in general. They are always railing against the cops good, bad or indifferent. 20% will back up the cops no matter what, this is the law and order crowd. The remaining 60% are good hard working people, who are reasonable, fair, and generally impartial. These type of people make up the majority of the jury pool. If these people think I'm doing a good job, then I am doing my job! Those are the type of people I work hardest to please. The chips fall where they fall on the others. Sigh............. Again, this woman would not have had any problems if she had not started the situation in the first place. As far as tackling goes, I'd rather fight a 200lb guy than a 100lb woman for many reasons. Women (at least in my experience) are just plain mean when they decide to fight. I've been scratched, punched, and kicked in the 'nads. It normally takes at least two officers to control an out of control woman. At least with guys, if things get too bad you can just deck them. Most if not all officers hestitate to strike a woman for fear of the way it would look. You don't live in the USSR, that comparison is just silly. Behave yourself and guess what, you probably won't have any contact with the police. If the cops just randomly picked this woman, and started messing with her then you would have a point.
