  1. I don't defend overt criminal activity, go back and look. You keep bringing up the same old stuff...........yawn.......... "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  2. Don't you get tired of the same replies? We've been down this road before......... "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  3. Wow, you should use those powers to read other peoples minds for good, not eeeeevillllllll Oh no, not THE Alan Dershowitz, man ya got me there, a card carrying member of the ACLU believing bad things about law enforcement, say it ain't so!!! I'll use the ivory towers defense with him. And if he says and beleives it, it must be true How do you almost teach somebody something?. I think I passed my perjury block in the academy 20 yrs ago. 2 out of 3 moms think jiffy tastes best! The wording is a little broad at best, still does'nt prove anything. They are just that, statements and opinion. You and I have those too, they just happen to be different. Aw man, ya got me again, if I only would have known. The true colors start to show, when I say things you don't like you say STFU, did it take you a long time to come up with that? I love some "progressives", they feel the louder they scream the more sense they make And sweetie, I've spent 20 yrs building upon a strong foundation of integrity given to me by my parents, I sleep just great at night. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  4. Wow, must suck to be you Bullshit, I tell my guys that no bad guy is ever worth comprimising your integrity. Where I work, there are always more bad guys. My word is just that, if I lie or "color my testimony" like you say then I lose credibility with the judges. That is a fatal mistake in law enforcement. . Hon, (that's right, I called you hon)I've testified in hundreds of cases, and I don't lie, it's not worth it. The only job you can go to jail for doing your job and making a mistake. Mistakes are not criminal, unless done intentionally. The only point I'll give you, it's called a "drop gun". Has it happened yes, it's one of those things, you've always heard about but never seen. It's the UFO of LEO's, I'll never dispute that it hasn't happened. But in the age of video and the other forms of media very unlikely. If the LEO gets caught with his hand in the cookie jar then he/she is jammed harder than the average joe. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  5. What can I say, I'm sure you consider yourself "open minded" or "progressive". For someone of that ilk, that is a very closed minded, uninformed, factually baseless statement. Just what I expected. One question, do you like Michael Moore movies? "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  6. It's funny you mention the oil gauges on the engines, I thought thats what I remembered but I wasn't sure so I didn't mention it. I flew in the Island Airlines beaver a couple times too. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  7. There is a great deal of training, our states academy for city and county officers is 18 weeks, it may be expanded to 22. Additionally most field training programs after the academy are 12-16 additional weeks. These situations are NOT happening all over the country, the advent of the 24 hour news cycle, You Tube, and other types of media make it appear that way. There are thousands of police and public contacts daily in this country many under very tense and dangerous circumstances, a very very small amount end up like this. Law enforcement works very hard to reduce that small amount. Could'nt disagree with you more the vast, vast majority of LEO's are honest, hardworking people doing a thankless sometimes very dangerous job. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  8. Very good point, that is why I said maybe the taser came out a little early. Although diffusing situations is seldom easy, it's very possible this one could have been with a little communication rather than force. If that doesn't work, force can always be used but as a last resort. The one thing I really enjoy about police work is just that, being thrust into a tense situation and talking the person down. I always try to get the person I deal with to say thank you. You'd be very surprised how many do, even if they have been cited or in some cases arrested. If that happens then I always win and no one (mainly me)gets hurt. This driver was a knuclehead and I doubt he would have said thank you, but maybe he would have at least understood the gravity of the situation better. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  9. Wow, That's some great logic, we do live in a gun culture to a certain extent, hence the what you call paranoia I call surviving. It is sad to a certain extent, but like you said only in America. Didn't you say earlier "kill all the pigs" or something? See why I may be a little cautious..... Now go ahead and insult me, I just could'nt resist replying, even to a troll. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  10. I grew up near Port Clinton Ohio, Keller field was home of Island Airlines, in the mid-70's they flew two tri-motors to Put-in-Bay Island in Lake Erie, along with a beaver. My family knew the pilot (who later crashed one and was seriously injured) I flew right seat a few times, quite a thrill for a kid. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  11. I've already tried that with many in here, alot of them think the officer has to be assualted before reacting. I personally think the trooper was a little quick with the taser in this case, but I understand why it was used. Check out some other taser threads and see what some have said, it's kinda scary "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  12. Because the court has enough faith in our word, also if I lie I'm committing a felony. It's funny, I knew someone would look at that statement and respond in the way you did. It is a great responsibility to have the court let us sign the citation. It is not blind faith by any stretch, it prevents petty arguments along the side of the road that could escalate to what is in the video. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  13. Because the court has enough faith in our word, also if I lie I'm committing a felony. It does prevent petty bickering about signing vs. arresting for refusing to pledge to show up for court for a violation. If the guy says "i'm not showing up for court" then he can be arrested, if the guy says I never got the ticket there is other evidence, i.e. dispatch logs, radio tapes, in-car videos, etc. If an officer does falsely state he issued a ticket, then he is commiting a felony. And the system will hammer him. In the 20yrs I've been doing this, I've never encountered a problem. It's a very simple effective system. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  14. Are those statements even worth a response "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  15. Signing a ticket in most states is merely a pledge to show up in court. Failure to sign means you are not "promising" to show up in court, therefore an arrest can be made so a bond can be posted. In my state WE sign the citation, then there is no arguing over signing something. Nah, I say (educated guess) the guy was going to jail for failure to sign the ticket. I will say that a taser is not a substitute for good communication skills. IMHO the taser was used too early if at all, second a couple mins of "verbal judo" or other de-escalation techniques could have been in order here. This didn't occur in a vacuum, if you look at the troopers demeanor at first the guy may have just gotten a warning, instead the arguing starts. The side to the road is no place to argue. This also appears to be some type of construction type zone, the troopers presence there may have been because of prior safety related issues. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  16. No argument there, however get past the disturbing part and trained eyes can shed SOME light. Again, no argument there "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  17. My mind is open, yours is not. I tried to explain how the use of force works, again you and others may not like it but thats how it works. My mind is open enough to watch the video and draw what conclusions I can, based on training and experience. If I saw something improper, I'd say so. That response speaks for itself. Is that a way of taking your ball and going home? Surely you can do better than that "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  18. Sorry sport, that may be your opinion but it's far from fact. The taser IS NOT deadly force. People who have died when one is used, have died from complications from a variety of things, usually chemical or (lack of) fitness related. The vast majority (if not all) officers who carry tasers have been tasered themselves, with no fatalities. A completely inaccurate statement, educate yourself on the use of force continuum, it starts with verbal and ends with deadly force. There is a whole lot inbetween, you may not like it but it's factual. Once again an edited version of the use of force continuum Verbal- To persuade Empty Handed-Seeks compliance with the use of restraint techniques, holds, armbars etc. Less lethal- met to impede the aggressors actions. With use of less lethal tools or weapons, batons, bean bag rounds,OC/mace/taser. Deadly Force- To stop the aggressors actions to protect life The taser falls in the Less than Lethal level. Remember an officer can use one step ahead of the aggressor to prevent injury. Injury can occur to the aggressor or officer at levels above verbal. These levels are universally accepted by the International Association of Chiefs of Police IACP. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  19. You're the only volunteer firefighter I think I've ever heard of that (may) not wear fire fighter-y clothes. But I do bet you've got a "I work where the devil dances" sticker on your car, or the little muscle guy flexing his bicep with his fire helmet on....... "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  20. Go back to the "don't taze me bro" thread for a detailed explaination of the use of force continuum. You may not like the reality, but those realities are explained there. We don't have tasers, I wish we did. Our options are limited, PR-24, pressure points etc. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  21. WOW, that was deep. From appearances they were trying to contain the situation. If this situation goes mobile then my what if's are a real possibility. Have you had any training in this area? Any situation going mobile is very bad. Ever dealt regularly with the mentally ill? This is an absolute tragedy, but, some of the stuff said here is way off what reality is. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  22. That is a statement that draws a conclusion based on YOUR emotional response not facts. If you don't want to discuss this in an adult way then I'm done. Insults show your lack of ability to control your emotions. I didn't insult you, from the way you ramble I kinda expected it. I think we both agree on that as a whole, it was the circumstances that make it a tragedy all around. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  23. The whole thread deals in the "what if" arena. There would'nt be a thread or discussion without it. My what if's were legitimate. Now that is weak, as well as not even close to being legitimate. It's funny, all the macho stuff is coming from the cop haters........ And thanks to jakee, I (think) the quote stuff is figured out! "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  24. No you can defend your fellow cops all you want and you can continue to tell us how innocent they are. But I am sorry, the video does not lie. Okay how? What if he doesn't comply, what if he grabs an innocent bystander, then you'd be bitching about them not doing anything. I hear lots of complaining but no solutions. what makes my blood boil is those pigs (yes they are fucking pigs if you ask me) let this man die right in front of them I don't have to educate myself on this stuff, I live it every day. I looked briefly at the other story, and that too didn't occur in a vacuum. But I won't comment on the actual issues based purely on media accounts. P.S. Can someone PM me on how to use the friggin' quote and reply features. I'm sorry my post are so choppy, i can't figure those things out "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  25. It's not OK for cops to be injured or killed. It's not OK for cops to kill people who are not threatening to kill them or anyone else. Both of those things are true, and intelligent tradeoffs must be made between the two. In this case, the tradeoff was not intelligently made. *** I've never said it was okay for cops to kill anyone. I just understand how it happens and sometimes why. This is a tragic case, no doubt about it. I just don't make rash decisions and draw uninformed conclusions. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
