reporter arrested many different headlines from the news
skycop replied to Armour666's topic in Speakers Corner
None of the other reporters were armed(that they know of), that is my point. Once other media outlets show up, then it becomes a safety issue and a media area (should be/is) designated. Because once they show up the "herding cats" theory applies, they all jostle for the best positions, locations, etc. "Official Business" is just that, what the school administration deems. Again, just because the media shows up, by no means makes them "official". Now, there is a "legitimate purpose" argument here, that is what the court may decide. Not an (interfering with) public safety issue here, a violation of law is. My guess is they may have gotten word this guy was armed, he came into the "gun free zone", (again the 2nd amendment part of this is not the issue being discussed here.) He refused to leave, he got hooked. The officers tried to (somewhat) accomodate the reporter by asking him to go across the street. If this was an emergency situation then the officer could have designated a media staging area, and then the media would HAVE to go there. From the video, it appears they were the only media outlet there, just reporter and camera man. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!" -

Define "legitimate". What makes his presence legitimate? The reporter was carrying a gun, the officers asked him to go across the street. HE decided to play games and pushed the situation, 2nd amendment issues aside, that was a clear violation. Just because the press is somewhere, that doesn't make their presence legitimate, as much as they like to think it does. Take my word for it, dealing with the press is like herding cats. This guy tested the limits and lost, it will all shake out in court. The gun will be the main factor, your other points are well taken, the gun will get him convicted IMHO. Detroit Rock City (the movie) said it best......... "Dude, that's how horror movies start"......... "No way man, that's how porno movies start"... I know by today's standards some may find this shocking, but I used to drink with some of my teachers and coaches over 20yrs ago. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

At the very end of WWII Russia did a "yea, and us too" when it came to Japan. They did very little, if any fighting of the Japanese during the war. It was in our and Japan's best interests to end the pacific war ASAP. Moscow would have surely wanted to influence the occupation of Japan. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!" -

The invasion of Japan would have cost MILLIONS of lives on both sides. Okinawa was the example of how mainland Japan would have fought, to the last man, woman and child. Revsionist history is just that, applying todays standards and values to this situation. Lawrocket was right, the incendary bombing of Toyko caused more civilian casualties than Hiroshima. Ball ammo yes, semi-jacketed hollow points no. Corbon is the hottest commercial 9mm available, around 1300fps from a Glock 19. The shots I'm talking about were at 90' to 45' from about 8 yards, the window was down. No one was more suprised than us "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

They're striker-fired. The advantage (or disadvantage) is that the trigger pull never changes from first shot to last. *** Glock has a longer pull on the first shot however, one can do a "trigger reset" and have a quasi-single action trigger pull on the rest. Glocks are "safe action" pistols. There is a trigger set called the "New York" trigger pull where trigger reset cannot be done. I believe they have to be special ordered, the NYPD made had this feature for their initial Glock order many years ago for what ever reason. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

BTW 9mm even penetrates car doors more effectively *** I could'nt disagree more, we had Corbon 119 grain 9mm +P+ NOT penetrate a 1990 Plymouth Acclaim's door. Five rounds hit the door and not one penetrated, hence saving some badguys who had shot at our guys. The .40cal is a better round, it has the punch (almost) of a .45, but the lighter qualities of 9mm. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

I didn't tell a single anecdote. He asked a question, I answered it. *** With personal experiences, very similar to anecdotes in a double talk sense "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

From working in the inner city for 30 years, dealing with inner city parents, teaching inner city kids in summer school, hiring inner city residents, shopping in inner city shops... *** Those sound like anecdotes to me.................... They certainly add no clarity, unless you are making the point of course, my mistake, guess I need an edumacation. Ahh.. the ivory towers. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
-
I said SOME clarity, specific situations have specific results. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

Personal anecdotes certainly aren't meaningless, there are people here who deal with the welfare system and see the good, the bad and the ugly. You may dismiss them, but they add some color and clarity. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

You're right on. I deal with folks that think uncle sugar should take care of them from cradle to grave. I'm dealing with 3rd generation housing authority residents. I actually was called to a fight in a soup-line, the argument started over what one guy said about another guys girlfriend "over the e-mail". Both these guys in the line had computers and they called the cops on their cell phones!!!! There was also a guy watching the fight that was so fat he needed crutches to stand, he was in the soup-line too. Only in America. We did a survey a few years ago, the housing authority (projects) used 40% of city services, yet provided only 2% of revenue, we all pick up the slack for that. Geez...... This sucks! BSBD God speed to all.......... "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!" -
My state is an open carry state. As a matter of fact you can carry a loaded handgun in the glove box of your vehicle as long as it has a "locking mechanism". There is a fine line between unconcealed carry and disorderly conduct though. I've charged and had it stick when someone carries open, but irresponsibly. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

Oh my, I'm at a loss for words on this one. There are times when we have to accept certain risk factors. I would think there is something more to this, maybe the officer was looking for an out for another reason. I also am basing my opinion on a media report, which is hard to do. But from all appearances I won't defend this "officer" and I'm using the term loosely. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
