nothing wrong with a caravan...especially in this scenery. Too bad.. bad decision in my opinion. Nothing beats the Glacier jump ! Ask Bilvon for the pics. Its a helluva experience.

be way cheaper for you to fly. The road trip from there is 5000 miles... with the price of gas....

What would you like to improve within yourself?

my colon..... damn irritable bowel syndrome ! Well, that is within myself.... -
Obviously, this doesn't mean the best Boogie as in "the WFFC" or any other boogie comparison. I'm just trying to find out how you would rate the boogie as a whole
-
Ok trying to prove a point to somebody. Whoever has been to the Summer Solstice Boogie in Alaska, how would you rate it? , with 10 being best, 1 being worst. This encompasses everything. The vibe, the view, the jumps, the scenery, the glacier jump, and just your overall rating. As a sidebar, would you do it again?

Why is it that you don't believe an officer should be proactive and not reactive? How do you think cops catch people with 200 pounds of cocaine in their vehicle. Wait until the cocaine falls out of their gastank in the middle of a busy intersection? Ever have anybody you love killed by a drunk driver? I am 100% certain that you don't, because you wouldn't be so "anti-roadblock" aka sobriety checkpoint. Ever hear of a girl named Polly Klaas? If i remember correctly, she was in the trunk of that car that was never searched by the police when the killer/rapist/kidnapper was pulled over for speeding! If a cop has to only be reactive, instead of proactive in doing his job, there would be a lot more serious crimes taking place...murder, rape, kidnapping, armed robbery, etc.....

people also hate people in the military...why do we even have a military? People also hate going to dentists...why do we have them? People also hate going to the doctors...why do we have them? Just because YOU hate the police, doesn't mean everybody does....As I said...."everybody hates the police...until its time to dial 911"

yes, it was definitely understood that it was a Full-time 40 hour week, 52 week year. The hospital says they gurantee me that that type of thing will not happen again....although they also said they cannot gurantee that corporate headquarters can make the same type of promise. Turns out, I found out today, that 2 years ago they laid off 106 people. Most of these also were paid to come up from the lower 48. As anybody who has been to Alaska can testify, If you are laid off in the wintertime, it is virtually impossible to move back to the lower 48 until May arrives. The road is impassable, and you could fly out, but all of your household belongings won't get shipped to the lower 48 until a barge takes them south...usually in the early summer months as well. Try to uproot a family and move them 5000 miles back south when you have leave everything behind for several months...including automobiles. The hospital thinks that they can save money by laying these people off in the winter (cuz they have nowhere else to go) and then they can hire them back when they are in dire need before the road opens in the summer. My only problem is I LOVE Alaska, but I figured out that the corporations can really take advantage of people and families up here.

I'm on the staff here. The problem is the department is a two person department for 9 months a year, and a 1.5 person department for about 3 months a year (winter). The only problem for them is that they can't find somebody to move up to Alaska for 9 months at a time. Intead of biting the bullet for 3 months a year, they immediately react with a "layoff" threat. They tried to fill the job for 3 years before I came looking for a position in Alaska. They offered it to me right over the phone upon receipt of my resume. And they gave me 40K in moving expenses. It looked like they were desperate. Now that we are busy again, they are trying hard as hell to keep me. But how long will that last? Until winter again???? I hate corporate bueracracies. And hospitals can be some of the worst abusers of that type of system.

Exactly... and most cops any worth their salt will bring in proof of the properly calibrated radar. But no judge i've ever known will throw out the charge simply because the officer wouldn't endanger the accused or himself by letting the accuser out of the vehicle into a possibly hazardous situation. With any luck, the cop won't show to court, or the defense counsel will be primed on the prima facie laws of the municipality that the offense allegedly occurred in. All it takes is one person to get plowed on a freeway by another motorist and then the cops will be persecuted for having let the person out of the vehicle in the first place.....

BY the way, the contract states that because Alaska is the way it is.... they can break the contract anytime they want.....but i can't..
-
That is the problem. I've got a written contract with the first hospital. The second hospital has my verbal agreement. The problem is in Alaska, this is a right to work state. This means that they can fire you anytime, any reason, for no just cause. But if I break the contract, then supposedly i have to pay them back the money they gave me to move up. Fucked up laws..... Anyhow, 20K sounds like a lot of money, but what if they lay me off this winter??? They didn't really help me out in the "trust" category.

Not a law. Common misconception. It is the officer's judgement. It is a safety issue. Letting somebody get out of their vehicle on a busy roadway to look at a radar could be a fatal and costly mistake to the officer/municipality. Aside from this, it is a lot more safe to keep the individual in a confined place (the vehicle) for officer safety. All it takes is one crazy person to go for the officer's gun because he is angry about the citation and somebody will get killed. Don't only look at it from the civilian's point of view. Look at it from a safety point of view for everybody involved. Police have a split second to make a decision. The critics have days, months, and years to make the same decision the officer only had a split decsion to make. If you feel you were wronged, take it to court. It is easier to get it thrown out or reduced on a prima facie law than to try to get a cop fired because he was looking out for your own safety and his own safety. I agree that there are bad cops out there with attitudes, but that doesn't mean they are all bad. All cops are bad until you dial 911.

Ok, here is the scoop. A hospital in Alaska paid me big bucks to move up here 9 months ago to work. During the middle of the winter they told me that our patient "numbers" were down. They threatened to lay me off during the wintertime until business picked back up in the summer. Scared the hell out of me (and pissed me off), after all, i've got a mortgage, bills, etc..... By the way...i signed a 2 year contract with this hospital last August. Last week, another medical facility offered me a job for a couple more bucks an hour. This facility is top of the line as far as technology goes. It has tons of potential and practically no chance of layoff. Since then the hospital has offered me a 6 buck an hour raise to stay. Do I take the chance of staying at the hospital that almost fucked me last winter? Or do I break the contract with them and go to the brand new medical facility with tons of potential for about $20K less per year?

I live right in the middle of Bear country. There are more people killed and injured by moose every year than by black and grizzly bears combined. Ever seen a 2000 pound moose 10 feet tall come kicking its front hooves at you at a rate of 6 times a second? I've run into bears plenty of times. Never had a bad ending...i'm more afraid of being stomped by a moose!

Used a home DZ packer about 10 times. I have 1 malfunction (lineover). That malfunction came from a packer's job. I would prefer to pack my own malfunction...that way, I can only blame myself. Anybody else have a packer pack a bad one for you?

I resemble a 34 year old Silverback from the Western Lowlands of Africa....
