  1. November 10th... Happy Birthday fellow Jarheads, current, retired, and former ! ! ! Semper Fi ! Johnny
  2. Easy way to get rid of the gamey taste....marinate them in milk for 2 days in the fridge. It works well for gamey bear meat. Johnny
  3. 1/2/0.... Yippeeee ! In the air again! ! ! Johnny
  4. DIdn't mean to "brag" about how much I make. BUt to anybody interested in the Rad field, if you are going to stay with it, you may as well specialize. Why break your back doing xray when you can make twice as much doing US, or Nucs and NOT break your back? This field isn't my first choice in a line of work. I was also a police officer for 5 years. Loved every minute of it. But, I'm making 3 times as much and I'm NOT getting shot at, or at the least having the potential to get shot at every day. I got out of Nuc traveling because it was totally saturated. Cover for short vacations and maternity leaves mostly. Where I came from out of Ohio, most xray techs couldn't find a job unless it was PRN. Even up here in Alaska, xray techs either don't have a job...or work PRN. They have to slide into a full time position when they can. Its definitely not like it was several years ago. And yes..I agree with yo that Nuc Techs are usually fucking weird. I've ran into so many "odd" people in my field. I've actually been thanked one time at a traveling gig. The radiology staff came over and thanked me for being "normal". THey said the last 5 techs they had were "fucking weird"! I do concur with you on that point.
  5. P.S. Nursing is the true way to go. It is the most demanded job in the country right now. Let me correct myself...most demanded "profession". THey make killer money, travelling is great, great opportunity, and if you get bored in the burn unit...go to Med/Surg. If you get bored in that....go to ICU, then go to surgery, then go to Dialysis nurse, then PCU, than, NICU, then Peds, then research.... I think you get the point. Nursing potential is endless. If I could do it over again, that is the route I would go. Its not about wiping asses anymore. That is more for LPN's, or more likely CNA. Johnny
  6. Ha ! That is funny. X-ray techs are not in demand anymore and they sure as heck don't make that much money...especially for the back-breaking work that they do (morning portables). I've been doing Nuclear Medicine and Positron Emission for 14 years and that is where the money is. I just hired a girl right out of school last September and started her off at a low 70K per year. I make 90K. And the work isn't back-breaking. Ultrasound is the same way...The only difference is that Nuclear Medicine, X-ray, MRI, and CT, and Mamms are all saturated ! So many people flooded the field that jobs are few and between. I remember in Nucs 5 years ago, you could name your price and where you want to go. No its saturated because the schools put out way too many students. It may change the more PET becomes popular over the next 10 years. Ultrasound is in its glory right now. Name your price and location. X-ray is not where you wanna be after several years of doing back-breaking work, and most of the time for Asshole rads. Johnny
  7. Been in the 50's up here in Alaska all week!
  8. Look at the bright side....vehicle is paid for, housing paid for, that is at least 1/2 the cost. Oh yeah, the scenery is paid for :)

  14. Aha! Little did Smoky know....Johnny had a hunting partner that blasted Smoky to Smithereens as soon as he was distracted during his Beargasm! Poor Smokey....Maybe his mind shouldn't have wandered thinking about the upcoming fire season. Johnny
  15. Tastes quite a bit better than venison....it is considered deer. Yuuummmmmmm......Moose Chili.....yummmmmmmm
  16. Actually...this is how I lured the bear to me. Trust me, the bears just keep coming back for more. Just ask Smoky. Johnny
  17. Northern Exposure is accurate. The town that the show was based on is only 55 miles north of here. Here are some pics I've taken over the past year. The show ain't got nothin' on the real Alaska. Johnny
  18. More moose cause injuries every year to humans then the bears do....especially when you don't use vaseline...they get PISSED!
  19. I suppose he jerkeys like the rest of us. Long and fast... Johnny
  20. Nope. no food. It's illegal to feed the wildlife up here. Even if I did feed the moose, it would probably kill them. Their stomachs are not made to digest anything else but twigs this time of year. If they ate real food, it would probably kill them fast. Johnny
  21. These moose were in my backyard this weekend. There were 3 of them. I believe one was momma, and the other 2 were 2nd year. They've been hanging out around our yard quite a bit lately. There is another momma with a baby that has been hanging around our yard from time to time also. 5 different moose must feel really safe in our yard. I think they've been licking the dog pee for the salt. Worried the dogs will get trampled. Johnny
  22. NO PROBLEM. Anything to help not only a skydiver's wife and kids....but a soldier's wife and kids. Johnny
