Recently a UK friend jumping a Teardrop in Sydney on holiday had his reserve popped after being dragged along the ground by some tw*t who swooped through his lines just after he landed (another story...). He had problems because no one out here in Aus was rated to repack his reserve on a Teardrop as they are so uncommon here. He sorted in the end as another UK jumper who was here was rated but it got me thinking... I have a Talon & a Talon 2 that eventually I will be taking back to the UK. Having bought these in Australia will I have any issues when I get back to the UK in regards to riggers/repacks or are they common enough over there to overcome this...? CJP Gods don't kill people. Icarus Beta is definitely ZP as I jumped one this weekend and was after some feedback (got very litte) from other owners. Check the canopy - and if in doubt test jump it. CJP Gods don't kill people. People with Gods kill people

One of the guys I have done some coach jumps with is probably in his fifties and has only been jumping for around four years. He has around 750 jumps and is an instructor. Go for it CJP Gods don't kill people. People with Gods kill people

Can't find any info on the web - probably not looking hard enough - so please help me. i have been test jumping an icarus Beta 170 and would like some feedback from other jumpers who have jumped the same type... CJP Gods don't kill people. People with Gods kill people

I think you should have both hands on both handles at this critical point and continue the drill you have been doing (hopefully) before every single jump by pulling them both, in order. Why drill then change what you are doing at the last minute... CJP Gods don't kill people. People with Gods kill people

OK. So jumped a rig with collapsible slider for the first time yesterday. Was happy to collapse it but the owner told me to stow it behind my head aftrwards. i was a bit wary of pulling the slider down over my brakes - is this what I was meant to do? I can't see any other way to stick it behind your head unless you do - I assume this will not cause problems... CJP Gods don't kill people. People with Gods kill people

Well I test jumped a Beta 170 on saturday for two jumps. I pulled high on it and had a play around. The first thing I did was stick a line twist in by being a little over zealous with the toggles (used to a 200 F111 7 cell remember) but after I had time to play with it for a while I was quite comfortable. It is very different to what I have been jumping but I did not feel uncomfortable under it and I landed in the peas on tip toes both times and felt more confident on landing than I did on my 200 due to it's worn out flare. Personally after 110 jumps I feel happy to drop to this canopy. I spoke to my instructors and they seemed to think it was fine too - they watched me under it and were happy with the landings. I will have a lot to learn on it and am not going to get bored with it too quickly i think. I find the downsizing to a 120 a little over zealous but I believe that I am being conservative and with care and consideration I will be fine on this canopy. I have already seen too many serious injuries to be flippant about this type of thing. Thank you all for your advice. CJP Gods don't kill people. People with Gods kill people

Off topic but interested to know why, if you had never done a rear riser landing and you had a canopy that could not flare, you did not chop this and go for silver? CJP Gods don't kill people. People with Gods kill people

I have a question sort of related to the downsizing checklist post this so i thought - why not. i am currently flying a Maverick 200 which is an f-111 7 cell with about 400 jumps on it. I am about 190-195 out the door so I am pretty much 1:1 on this. i have 104 jumps and regular poor landings - i.e not stand up but not hurting myself. One of my instructors pointed out that there is little flare left in this canopy and that could be aiding my landings. Prior to this I was jumping a new PD 210 and having tiptoe landings every time. I fly the canopy on front and rear risers in the air, can flat turn and occasiionaly use front risers to get a bit of speed to try and maximise the flare but some of your other criteria - rear riser landings, on a hill etc. I feel cannot really try. I made a comment to a friend last weekend that if I did not have such a good sense of humour these landings would really piss me off. I am currently looking at a few Spectre 170's as a first canopy for my brother who is coming to Australia at Xmas and is slightly smaller than me - i was considering going for something of this size myself as well and would be interested in your comments. You will proboably recommend that I get a larger canopy that is ZP before dropping to a 170 but I getvery varied advice. A UK instructor mate of mine was here recently and he advised a 150 as my next canopy! Anyway - over to you... CJP CJP Gods don't kill people. People with Gods kill people

I lost two hours of my life to that movie the other night. Started badly and went downhill from there. Didn't even get to check out the skydiving scene. And to think i could have been in the pub. CJP Gods don't kill people. People with Gods kill people

Hey. i jump with Golf gloves and they are pretty good even in the winter in the uk - although I am now in Aus. just goto a golf shop and get one left and one right - they look at you strange but hey. Because Golf gloves are quite thin, yet tacified they work really well. Tricky - I went to Durham too but did not jump there - what College you in? CJP Gods don't kill people. I think it is a pretty comprehensive list. My only change would be (for me & IMHO) that I would only go for silver in an emergency below about 1200-1400 feet. Above that I would get out and dump my main. I have done the main dumping a number of times (well 63) and as of yet my reserve procedures are happily restricted to practise pulls. In an emergency I don't want to be trying something new so out arch pull (main BOC) would be my procedure for above 1400. Just a comment. Keep enjoying yourself. CJP Gods don't kill people. So I got up this morning at 6:30 am (I am in Australia for those confused by it not being Tuesday yet) and rode the bike down to the DZ. They put just 5 loads up and I was on 1. 3 & 5. A 4-way on 1 followed by two 2-ways. The third jump was the best, just really good fun although it was marred by an "interesting" spot and a twenty minute hike back to the DZ through fields of bullocks. And all packed up and back in Sydney in time for lunch. Beat that. CJP Gods don't kill people. People with Gods kill people

The first thing I learnt when I got to Australia was: "Don't Piss Jasmine Off". Everyone at the DZ warned me. Jasmine - Lovely yet terrifying. CJP Gods don't kill people. People with Gods kill people

AAD Required in Australia?
CornishChris replied to ReLLiK75's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Unfortunately rules is rules. However a friendly rigger may be able to loan you an AAD and the APF may also do this. Picton has a 190 & a 170 ready to go although the 190 is nearing the end of it's servicable life... See you soon CJP Gods don't kill people. People with Gods kill people
