There are loads of these spam mails that puport to be from somewhere in Africa offering to give you money then you return some of it to them and keep a commission. The money is generally "stockpiled a after a coup in my country". Basically once they have all your bank accoiunt details they can do funny things with it (allegedly) and screw you. To see if they are serious, which I doubt, ask them a question that is complete bollocks and see what they answer. My recommendation - stay away but have fun with them. CJP Gods don't kill people. I love dogs so much. Always grown up with them. We have always had Lab-Collie crosses and they make great companions. As you will know most pure bred breeds tend to have some issues. With Labs it is fatness - you have to really exercise thekm to avoid them porking out - I saw a really fat lab last week that was so sad - it could barely stand. Anyway just something to consider, often less money but equally good as pets and we have had no problems with ours. In fact Max was just put to sleep at age 14 & 1/2 which is a good innings. In the UK most DZ's have a policy that their rental and student rigs are not to be jumped freefly. However they do have a couple that are. My newbie advice is get out there and do some RW until you get your own freefly friendly rig. The sky will still be there and you will have more skills to add to the list.. Ah. My home country reduced to a single blurb word. Jumped in UK - can be crappy weather but generally pretty good fun and welcoming. Did S/L's at nethers then AFF in: Spain: Hot. Very Hot. And we were the only people at the new DZ. Now in: Australia. - Pros: It is mid winter yet yesterday it was 21 degrees with perfect blue skies and little wind. Also a great crowd of people. I did a few 2-way coach jumps yesterday and when I had to leave the coach recommended that I do some "2/3/4 ways with other novices" (Quote written in log book) to get some experience - he was more than happy with my skill level. Whilst I am also keen to jump with other more experienced jumpers and get some more coaching I don't see anything too hugely wrong with this. As long as we plan the jump and jump the plan - break off and track efficiently and give ourselves more time than more experienced jumpers I am sure that it is not an accident waiting to happen. Ok. So I bought a new rig about 2 months ago and it needed a new Cypres. I bought one of those too but it needed a 4 year service so was sent to Germany over 7 weeks ago (from Australia). I was told by my rigger that it should take about 5 weeks. For the last few weeks I have been ringing and chasing to see if it is back as I am very keen to get up in the sky. Anyway last week I didn't make my standard call as I was away this weekend. When I rang my rigger yesterday it turns out that he has gone on holiday for three weeks and there is no way of contacting him at all. This will mean that my rig will have been away for over 10 weeks when I eventually get it back. Am I right to be really pissed off that he didn't at least call me to tell me that it was not back or that he was going away? The company he works out of suggested I come and have a look to see if I can find it but that means a trip out of town and picking up a rig I am not sure is finished with. Argh. What to do? I have met many nice French people and a few unpleasant ones. Every year of my childhood I spent at least two weeks on holiday in the Vendee in France and I have very pleasant memories of it. I have also met many nice and a few unpleasant people from a variety of other nations. Why do "you" hate the French, or another nation. In my humble opinion it is often born from propaganda. Example: The failure of certain European nations to follow the US (& UK) into Iraq with wholehearted supprot has meant a press blitz of these nations. This then feeds into our minds. In the same way, these nations are being fed Anti-American and Anti-UK sentiment by their respective press and "fuelling the hatred". WWII was fuelled so much on Propaganda - the German people thought that what they were doing was right, (Caveat - many of them did - there were obvious exclusions), because of the propaganda machine yet we have not learnt to take it with a pinch of salt - why? There is always an element of Xenophobia (IMHO) from our nature as animals who protect our immeadiate environments but for our respective governments to fuel this is twisting this nature. Let us all get on as Skydiving brothers and sisters. I am sure that if a French, Irish, Yugoslavian or even Iraqi skydiver were to walk onto the DZ one day we would treat them as a friend. The only real disagreement I have with B-E-M is that he will dislike the French until he meets a nice one. Innocent until proven guilty or guilty until proven innocent? My 2Cents. My condolences to family and friends. This made the front page of a major Aussie newspaper and people all over Britain (and the world) are talking about it. Let us hope, that it was a one off and that the perpetrator is caught quickly as we do not want to see a trend developing. Vigilante action, whilst rewading in the short term is probably not the best course of action however. We don't want to lose any more people to this tragedy... BSBD CJP Gods don't kill people.
