Does no one else keep a pull up in their rig under their main webbing? Everyone I know does. Anyway girl at our DZ had pin pop upon main pin check and D-bg fell onto floor unstowing some lines. It is a Sky Van DZ so she stayed up front with the pilot and landed with the plane. All others exited. Hard to be generalistic as depends on plane. use common sense in each situation you are in... They are both pretty cool but I do tend to agree with the Ducati off road theory. I shipped my Honda VFR 800 VTEC to Australia in a box and when it got here I put some fuel in, reattached the batteries and it started first time. if that had been a Duke then I would have opened the container and found nothing but a patch of oil and a nut left! Sexiest bike. Well the Duke is nice but very sharp lines. The Triumph is also pretty sweet too but still very sharp. If her heart is set on it then i would speak to your department of Veterans affairs or the equivalent - try www.vfw.org. Even try the army. Also the US Embasy in Belgium. It will probably be quite difficult and costly but probably possible - not sure. You may wish to consider what i suggested earlier and take mohammed to the mountain so to speak. A trip to Belgium to the site may help your mum put things in perspective and understand the sacrifice. He is currently with the men he died with - what would he have wanted? Where is his grave? Is he buried in a war cemetary? If so what are your reasons for bringing his body back? Will it give you closure to have him closer? Have you been to the site? I have been to many of the cemetary's in France, including the US site at Omaha Beach, and I find them very peaceful and moving places to be they also help remind us that what happened cannot happen again. If all these were relocated then this effect would be dramatically reduced. I do not wish to stir this into an argument but I would be very interested in why you wish to relocate a body buried for 60 years. Sorry for your loss also, it affected all of us a great deal - my grandparents lived in Coventry during the blitz and miraculously made it through even though theirs was the only house left standing in the street. I find threads like the "sex or skydiving" one quite bizarre and whilst I appreciate your concerns you are different from everyone else out there so you do what you want to do. For you and your relationship it will almost certainly never be the choice of one or the other... I jump almost every weekend and get between 4 and 6 jumps in one of the two days. The other day my wife & i do stuff together. She has been to the DZ once. I may never be the best, as Ron points out, but I think am current enough to be safe and I love the sport. I love my wife more though and while she is happy for me to do this then I will keep doing it. Being the best is not necessarily what it is about. It is all about balance. If we go on holiday we may go somewhere and I would not jump - so what the DZ will be there when I get back. If I want to do an overnight at the DZ because ther is a camp on she is fine with that too. We also go off and do stuff she wants to do so it is not just about me. Any couple should be able to make this work unless there is real pressure from the SO not to do it, be it safety reasons or otherwise. I would not lose sleep about whether something you don't do yet will cause problems in the future. Just gt out there and enjoy yourself and see where it takes you. CJP Gods don't kill people. If you have been pulling at or near 3500 look at it this way. the last time you went through that altitude you were doing terminal velocity which means the ground was much closer time wise. I agree. This was my point. Kallends graph of free out first predicts collisions based on wind drift. I stated that this would not happen in his example as the ff would open 25 seconds prior to the flat. I am not making the point that free should go first - I don't think they should. I am saying that whilst Kallends tool is useful to demonstrate wind drift it does not look at other factors. I do not wish to die in a canopy collision or a freefall collision and agree that canopy collisions are more easy to avoid. i just have a hard time in understanding why if two groups are opening at the same time (flat out first and then free) there is less danger than with free flyers opening 20 seconds before hand. It seems to me that wind drift aside a 4 way flat followed by a four way free has more chance of meeting somewhere in the middle on track off than the other way round. i.e. one from each group tracks directly at the other and due to the speed difference they will be opening at similar times. I have read various opinions on free out before flat and vice versa. At my DZ they often put students out first from the SkyVan - partly due to set up time in the door. I looked at Kallends graphs and whilst it is interesting it does have some flaws- absolutely no offence intended. This definitely demonstrates wind drift well but that is not the only factor to consider. The initial graph shows the free flier out first and the flat flier falls 'exactly' onto them. This happens twenty five seconds after the flat flier has opened. (10 sec wait on door & 15 seconds extra freefall). If you assume a forward speed of 25 mph for the freeflier under canopy and a vertical speed of 10mph this could put the freeflier a maximum of 260 metres away horizontally and 100 metres away vertically. If the free flier makes some funky turns then he/she will not be as far away horizontally but further vertically. Adequate seperation? If you take it the other way and stick the flat out first, the two will pass at 6K as described and there will be more congestion under canopy than before. Canopies will be opening at similar times and the groups could have tracked into each other? Adequate seperation? I am not saying I agree or disagree with either way at the moment as I only have 135 jumps but it is interesting to note these extra issues. This is an issue that can be discussed at length (and has been) and that, ladies and gents, was my 0.02 Blue ones & adequate seperation to you all. CJP Gods don't kill people. The Headline: "Today 293 succesful parachute descents were made from a plane in ****" does not carry quite as much punch to the reading/watching public as "Skydiver Plummets to Death" When you watch the reality shows I bet there aren't many shots of cars being driven normally either - but I bet there are crashes. I went for 1500. Whilst I am still new to this sport I have tossed my PC out over 100 times and I have never gone for silver (touch many wooden things), so the natural thing to do for me is go PC. If the occasion arose I would have no problems going for silver - believe me I like being here - but I will stick with muscle memory rather than trying something new at a low height.
