  1. that's a new one for me If, by some weird space time paradox, Chuck Norris could travel in time and fight himself.....He'd win If Chuck Norris is now 75, does that mean the universe is now just over 74 years old? ... 2. actually a great point - advise on firearms safety shouldn't require anyone to ask if guns are actually present. Especially doctors, who take notes on EVERYTHING but I don't think first of doctors as experts in gun use/care/handling/storage/transport. Maybe doctors should ask if there are any parachutes in the house so they can decide to give safety training on the use and packing and handling gear. seems to be an obvious place to teach that is in school - a special certification for the training for the teacher of a gym class, shop class, or in health class likely the best fits - maybe a cheap and effective way to set up a pre-req for a permit to purchase - guns or parachutes, either way good luck getting that to happen there....or in a practical and unbiased way ... 4. Who did you vote for last election? What type of light bulbs do you use? Tell me what you think of the whole Ferguson thing? I'm not a fan of law of laws prohibiting discussion of anything - I'm with Jerry, people would be better off just knowing that they don't need to discuss anything with their doctor that the doctor would be unable to explain why it's medically necessary. As for kids being asked questions, parents should be in the room at all times. If that's not allowed by the doctor, then quickly get a new doctor. Of course, knowing your doctor personally is a great solution for any of it. I'm not cynical (let's assume that for arguments sake ), and I do believe that somewhere a bill to 'require' doctors to ask and keep records of patients that own firearms would be proposed. And eventually those records would be forced to be available to big brother. ... 5. It would be after the murders. . 0/0 is indeterminate. You should know that. Hence you can't make that claim the rate at which the numerator approached zero was faster than the rate at which the denominator approached zero - therefore something something - due to zombies enough is enough though - clearly I'm at my limits ... 6. It would be after the murders. . . . . . think about it . . . . . . Unless the murders are by booby traps and there are some left in town that haven't yet been tripped. . . . . or the murderer(s) are from out of town . . or the murders were due to the intentional planting of a zombie drug ... 7. some very crappy irony for sure - just shows we have a lot of variety in the types of crappy people that exist however, if we just out them publicly, then we get an extra bonus - we can also identify and arrest violent vigilantes as a result....thus dealing with two groups at once. 8. I should say that I don't really know how important fraternities are in US college culture but it should be noted that the uninvolve individuals haven't been taken down in any fashion - they've not been sanctioned, suspended, expelled or faced any other action against them* except having a social club closed down. Not dismissing your point, just looking for a little context. * That I've seen. I 'believe' the greek system is waning in importance, either that, or I just care about them and don't pay attention. I'm not sure what individual take down is legally (or officially) appropriate other than people can now realize they are jerks....hard to legislate thought and speech and I'm not sure if society should try, no matter how offensive someone acts. But I would have no issue with posting pictures of the individuals on campus noting "Hey, these are THOSE guys". The upside to public calling out is they'll be exceptionally uncomfortable due to the reaction of people around them (wendy's point) The downside (fear), is other asswipes thinking they can physically be some kind of vigilantes about it....(and then I see two posts about 'shit kickin' and 'dragged behind a truck' ) ... 9. why? pick one 1 - because when it first started they protected the individuals as a means to protect the social structure and it got out of control? (not holding individuals responsible) 2 - because the social structure itself lends to this type of behavior (social structure drives behavior) ... 10. the philosophies are so different: 1 - find the individuals involved and deal with them only and don't take those not involved down with them (people are responsible/accountable for their own actions) 2 - go ahead and take down their social structure as an example to other social structures so they structure their culture differently (society is responsible/accountable for the actions of their members) it's truly two very legitimate viewpoints with the emphases that are 180 degrees from each other. And advocates of each will argue fanatically that the other one is completely unfair and unreasonable vs their own. I guess pick a side and rant away ... 12. An aside, for curiosity's sake: Is the word "ass" in 2015 America still considered so offensive that it merits "placeholder letters"? Would "tushie" offend you as much? 13. I would posit that in a world of adults, there should be no such thing as "fighting words" other than a direct threat of physical harm to a person or others, I don't see any position that would justify violent physical attack based on words alone. unless the attacker is, like, 12 years old? even 12 year olds understand the logic of the 'sticks and stones' philosophy of course there are exceptions - https://video.search.yahoo.com/video/play;_ylt=A0LEVjKcLP9U.9gAOzEnnIlQ;_ylu=X3oDMTB0dmRibmhwBHNlYwNzYwRjb2xvA2JmMQR2dGlkA1lIUzAwMV8x?p=words+do+hurt+commercial&tnr=21&vid=0DED208D0096948226380DED208D009694822638&l=31&turl=http%3A%2F%2Fts2.mm.bing.net%2Fth%3Fid%3DUN.608028655051279825%26pid%3D15.1&sigi=11ro2k82a&rurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DkCysb4_-4jU&sigr=11bqchbft&tt=b&tit=Words+Can+Hurt%3A+Did+You+Know+--+GEICO&sigt=1155fq8mf&back=https%3A%2F%2Fsearch.yahoo.com%2Fyhs%2Fsearch%3Fp%3Dwords%2Bdo%2Bhurt%2Bcommercial%26ei%3DUTF-8%26hsimp%3Dyhs-001%26hspart%3Dmozilla&sigb=134n0bvab&hspart=mozilla&hsimp=yhs-001 good statement and restatement of many throughout our history ... 14. active duty, Navy vet I just see way too many tough forum jockeys posting 'whupass', 'they better watch out for home grown justice' etc etc etc comments - you know what they mean when they imply 'whoopass' it's silly - one group I'm never scared of is special forces types and many ex-military - they've learned self control and would never disrespect their training to 'lose it' and act all vigilante, those that would are just bullies or damaged, but not typical of servicemen that I've known. (good example - the "stolen valor" stuff. Vets will get right in their faces and yell and call a TON of attention to the offenders. But I've never read a single account of the offender being physically attacked. As it should be.) something think about when posting that way - it will never be taken the way you intended it. I sure didn't. On the other hand, I'll be sure to ask what someone means before jumping to conclusion as well.... ... 18. the idea that it might just be different for different people is not allowed. careful with that, if you don't toe the PC line (or the zealot line), you'll be shunned. shunned I tells ya Actually I suspect your comment is likely dead on. However, I contend it shouldn't matter. In short - I don't care. It's not my business on how people are (or choose to be), it's their right to live their life for themselves. If it doesn't directly hurt me, or cost me, it's not my business how people go about pursuing happiness (sexuality, if they aren't ready to be a parent, if they like to own guns, it they like to buy old fashioned light bulbs, if they want to cut down a tree on their property, etc etc etc) ... 19. I respect vets so much to have such a view of them - most vets I know aren't bullies or reactionary or physical like this representation, their training teaches them competence and control I see them 'engaging' in the debate and being very vocal and passionate, and, frankly, pretty loud about it. I don't see them 'unleashing' whoopass. We train soldiers, not thugs. ... 25. I caught that reference You might have me pigeon holed a bit excessively (or for fun). I respect there's a balance, I just consider my current society out of balance and tipping further. So philosophically I do argue the limits of free trade (mostly to balance the other side's caricature with positions with my own). In details, like anyone, I'd rather start with a pure philosophy and then take it to the practical side (example, a "flat tax amount" is most likely "fair", but it's extremely impractical. A "flat tax rate" is more reasonable position and progressive in contribution. However, we push a progressive rate structure that achieves nearly a majority of citizens not contributing much at all and the push is to move it even farther. Similar examples apply to many gov functions. Not surprising when lawmakers make their paychecks on accumulating power, not relinquishing it). Sorry about the typo - I meant to ask what are the Canada standards for "legal" immigration.... we saw the summary list of NewZealand and Oz - I think those are very reasonable. as for looking for Government to 'fix' something....even a market based philosophy acknowledges that stability requires a basic set of rules for us all to follow. In this case, Government did NOT fix the problem under the current rules. Gov first ignored the rules, and then changed the rules. Actually, Gov purposefully ignored the rules with the end goal being to change the rules - for the sole reason of gathering more power. We'll see in the long term if it nets out better or worse. Unless it's dramatic, even that will be a painful and subjective debate not worth listening to. If it is dramatic, that will be interesting. ...
