  1. Hm. I suppose a more succinct "holiday erections" might have been ambiguous. quality points for both offerings though ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants
  2. No, just tons of posts that state how much better the world would be if only religion was eradicated. Maybe we could collect a book of them. ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants
  3. I would hope that in our country that "religions" or anti-religions, or any other 'organization' doesn't get any respect, rights or privileges. that should be for individuals and they should all be the same. we're a country of individuals. not groups, not couples, not demographics, not religions, not organizations, not social awareness groups, ......you get the idea unfortunately it seems everything we do is about how to legislate unequal treatment of people based on how they organize so we got that going for us ... 4. ya know, that's a pretty good one - I grok but I suspect that last line is true, but overweighted by obnoxious people doing obnoxious things we'd all be happier with ice cream shakes ... 5. these bug me, I don't like subjective philosophies taking money out of my pocket, I don't much care about the others - I can ignore it, change it, or throw away the stuff you know that's not a religious thing, that's a Normiss thing.. ... 6. yes, but as time => limit, then Te-Tp => zero and it's the difference in temps that causes gradients which drives those crazy weather events AND, its even better if we use Centigrade vs Fahrenheit for 3 digit displays.....or is it the other way around short story - everyone switches to Centigrade and the problem is solved as soon as the average temperature approaches 513C ... 8. I'm pathetically agnostic, and I don't get that at all. No one is force feeding me anything. though the 'religions' of environmentalism and liberalism are force fed here and directly impacting my wallet. so is the 'religion' of excessive conservatism. Most people think they are 'force fed' are actually just annoyed by people that act or talk different than them. I'd rather have a law that outlaws smoking before worrying about trying to ban some kid that wants to say a prayer privately in a corner before eating his school lunch. Who's she hurting? for that matter, 'most' of the time who's that smoker hurting other than just smelling bad and standing at entrances to feed his addiction? Which laws are you objecting to? Don't Kill? Don't Steal? I'm kinda ok with those. I'd object if banning yoga pants every 'actually' got passed. I'd object if I was forced to kneel and pray every day. I'd object if I was forced to pay taxes to build churches (I kinda am, since they are excluded, I do have to pay extra to pick up the slack). abortion objections are characterized as religious (by both sides at times), but I think at the heart of it is really just a disagreement on how to interpret when life begins - that doesn't require a religion, it could come from any type of moral upbringing. I wish they would base the argument as such, and the bible quoters just shut up and not muddy the waters.....but I don't expect coherent logic for any number of topics, from any perspective. this is just one of them shit - making me buy a certain light bulb, or taxing the hell out of my car because it doesn't use the right kind of gas is more intrusive than some people standing on a corner handing out (bibles, political literature, advertising, etc etc). Not letting me build a house on MY property because some neighbor thinks MY big tree is pretty and they don't want it cut down is intrusive. etc ... 10. We're already the only belief class that can't hold public office in several US states. I don't think I'm even eligible for jury duty in one or two states. you realize my entire post was tongue in cheek and illustrative of points that people make about religion too I think most of this is just people being people ... 11. My daughter is now in college. I read the school paper. Papers used to be severely slanted left and only mocked the right. You'd (gasp) NEVER mock the left. Today, the comics are great. 12. Clearly all atheists need to be eliminated. Get atheists out of government and what those guys. *you can just tell by looking a someone if they are one of those fanatical atheists* Hey, I'm not against all atheists, just those fundamentalist militaristic atheists Look, they are all crazy because I don't see the general populace of those atheists speaking out against this guy ... 13. If there were no humans on Earth, there'd be no oatmeal raisin cookies. Just wild oats and dried up grapes. Deep thoughts, man. all combinations and all possibilities are possible in natural variation I'd just say that the likelihood of oatmeal raisin cookies without the benefit of human interference is HIGHLY unlikely ... 14. yep - extremists on both sides want to control stuff they have no business sticking their nose into you want to get married? get married, and I don't care who to you don't? don't get married, and I don't care who to I won't 'celebrate' it, I won't oppose it (gay, hetero, whatever). I really don't care unless you are a friend. what we need to do is take away all political benefits and penalties that accrue to this random social structure called 'marriage' and start treating people as the individuals they are such that singles (of all philosophies) aren't being given unequal treatment under the law ... 15. What if I don't want to believe it's true, but it's scary and deep down bothers me? Or if I can make a few dollars on it? Or if it makes interesting news? Or if it let's me smile and nod knowingly with my (environmentalist, yuppie, church, gun club, book club, parent's club, etc etc etc) circle of friends and we can believe it and think we're better than the other groups. Should I believe it then? and take up collections? ... 16. I understand. My personal encounters with anti-vaxxers is also 100% environmentalists/leftists (the over the top kind, not the regular people that lean that way). And your description does fit the bill. But the other end is also fanatics of specific religious types that seem to be much less educated and affluent. Seems the anti vaxxer really are from all demographics, but the stereotypes are concentrated in these couple areas. I suspect that anti-vaxxers are a small percentage and from all walks of life. And that the really obnoxious, in your face, types that get a lot of press come from those two stereotype demographics. The others probably just quietly go about it and don't make a huge fuss until it becomes a problem. (kind of like most things) 1 - is autism actually increasing (and a lot of other issues)? or is just real and false diagnosis of those problems increasing (and awareness). Medicine likes to diagnose problems and treat them and sell medicine and collect fees. And parents are more affluent and have money to do it. 2 - where's the correlation to increasing medical issues and just the amount of food processing that occurs? if the last decade has shown increases in wierdass problems, it's also shown an increase in artificial this and that, and over processing, and less natural eating. etc ... I was going to post to Grue that he just opened himself up to one crowd 'agreeing except for the war parts' and the other crowd 'agreeing except for the entitlement parts' and then the vigorously argue why their subjective opinions are absolutely valid while the other guys' subjective opinions are silly and based on evil ...
