money for innovation - here's three examples 1 - the money reward is called the 'salary' for those with work ethics 2 - being innovative may be what's needed to keep the company alive. if the company goes out of business, then the job ends = no more money 3 - being REALLY innovative sometime gets things like 'spot bonuses' etc that aren't treated like an entitlement, but more like a happy surprise. that's also money, or trips, or whatever if the job is to be innovative, then do the job If a company finds out that more reward structure improves their bottom line, then they'll do that to attract the target employee. if not, then they don't. It's not rocket science. BV noted it: do a good job = get more.........repeat as needed ... Yes it is but unemployment is very high. And the job market for even engineering types is very tight at the moment. People are staying put due to uncertainty. And now you have a bunch of higher management types who think they can get their workforce to be innovative without any form of reward? I just don’t see it. But that’s just me. We work to get paid. We are a capitalist society. high your notes - unemployment is high - static workforce (low turnover) - uncertain job market so clearly people are willing to do more for less for the sake of a little security so how is it you do not see a natural move to fewer perks? ... Nope - you and you employer get what you 'negotiated' for. If someone just as clever as you is willing to work for salary and no invention bonuses while you want both - Then that guy gets hired first. If you don't like your current terms of compensation, then you have a great option. Shop around elsewhere and see if you can do better. Or, force that other guy to demand something he doesn't want to artificially level the playing field to your demands (like in a union) to take away his personal leverage he was willing to use to get that job. Oh - and force the company to hire even fewer people since the cost of labor goes up. It's a free market. ... What the hell is a classified patent? (other than an oxymoron) Several types of special patents (or things like patents). 1 - your regular patent - substantial and publicly visible but some we don't want visible to the public domain 2 - Like Shah notes - you can have an invention patented, but Classified for security 3 - Some companies don't submit a formal patent application for processes that are more easily stolen but the theft can't be approved. (I've gotten a lot of bonuses for those types of inventions - think of it as an informal "internal only" patent). Getting the patent, would really just let out the secret and provide no real protection. I think we called it a "trade secret" 4 - etc. etc etc we used to bonus a lot for invention disclosures and completion of the patent process (small bonus for the submittal, medium bonus if it progresses through the patenting process, big bonus if all that and it's actually applied in our products - so one good idea could generate a bonus 3 or 4 different times throughout a 2 year period or so) - there was a whole system for that. It's pretty much gone. (disclosure rates have declined a lot since then, but not completely) ... YES - "Grab it" It's also nice to have the PRCP = the open hand vs the pull = closed fist. Then you can show them together for memory retention and clarity during review - "see the difference in ripcord signals? 'touch it' vs 'grab it' " sometimes it's also nice to point to something (see the plane? look at what the other JM is signaling. etc etc) for a particularly good student ... I've noticed that people that tend to throw out the worn out "well, they may be book smart, but they don't have common sense" tend to be stupid people trying to shore up their low self esteem (does that stir it up for ya?) (real) education will help anyone improve from where they are - but everyone has a different starting point, so generalizations on the matter are just an exercise in stereotyping {{insert Speaker's Corner flavored comment here about how true education has pretty much been hijacked by PC indoctrination resulting in people not allowed to think for themselves, and we could really take off......}} ... wrong - 1% doesn't care - like the poor, the 1% doesn't pay much in taxes. That's the middle class that pays. Why on earth would you pay employees more when the government covers the necessities? WalMart makes more profits, the workers get benefits regardless. Both crowds make money from selling stuff to the middle class, as well as from the taxes on the middle class. ... so you're saying that public HC and government entitlements support the 1% in a very dramatic way. = big bucks for a rigger willing to unfairly exploit any 'approval' rule I never though rigging was a way to make big money......unless you're crooked (standardized requirements are a big win here to keep people from abusing rules like those for income - or to keep excessively conservative types from running roughshod over customers/the converse is true also - keeps riggers that are too loose from being flippant about real safety condition.) The name of the rigger who made the initial determination has been left out of this thread, but it is clear that many of us know who he is. No one who knows him would say that he was using his position and reputation to make big bucks, and all of us would agree that it would be especially unfair to suggest that he is crooked. Mark thanks for the info - no intention was there to bash anyone specifically.... my comment was a generalized comment about any type of undefined rule that would allow someone to ground a visitor for any reason. thus the comment on generalized standards was real though. again - fixed it for ya today's 1% don't collect taxes - the government does. The 1% protect their inherited wealth and the government makes everyone else pay tax on their behalf. again - fixed it for ya today's 1% don't collect taxes - the government does. Actually, the bottom 47% () collect taxes (indirectly) more than the top 1% our poor are already poor, the rich do have affect on the government the tragedy is the middle class is being squeezed between the two, under the argument that the poor need help, and the rich are trying to protect themselves you've just bought into 1 of the 2 groups, just like your puppet masters......er, 'leaders' want us all to do. Either group, doesn't matter which, just pick one and vote for deterioration of all we hold dear leave all 3 groups alone and life is better for all ...
