You bet Denise! I came out OK on the previous hurricanes. Looks like this one is going to do some damage here in North Miami. Got everything secured that I can. I've packed a bag and will be standing by in the ER tonight. I'm guessing I'll be without power and and off the air for a while. Good luck to all! Michael

I think they are great! My phone is the Samsung E-715 http://www.samsung.com/Products/MobilePhone/SGH/MobilePhone_SGH_SGH_E715.asp and service with T-Mobile. I can send pics to any other T-mobile phone (never done that) but I can also send them directly from my phone to any email address. I can also upload to my PC and post. I have a friend who can't attend many out of state boogies due to work/family obligations. I send pics to his email address from the boogies just to include him in the fun (and remind him what a weenie he is). Michael

I'll give you that. That fever (in an adult) can cause all sorts of lasting neurological dysfunction ...oh, never mind. I get it now. Yep, on admissions, that used to happen from time to time The 105 temp would have done it if the people waiting were boo-boo and band-aid types. Michael

I call, once again, bullshit. The public CAN shop around for a doctor. In fact, we see it all the time. Most Americans do. That's why they go to their referral list for their insurer. To save money. Anecdote - When I was uninsured and ran a fever of 104.7, I called around to different ER's to check on price. When I showed up, I went to the front of the line and got a discount. Why? Because I had cold hard cash. 60 dollars for the visit, 10 for the shot in the ass, and another 30 for the prescription. reply] I call bullshit. I've worked in over 20 ER's from small, plush, suburban hospitals to mammoth county facilities and this simply doesn't happen ...ever! Your time to treatment is determined by the severity of your illness/injury. It might get lengthened a bit if you really piss me off, but I have never seen or heard of such a thing happening as a cash customer going to the 'front of the line'. Now you can save money on the ER visit to stop your nose from growing, I have an immediate cure for you. ;) Michael

Hmmmm. Would you take the job of turning sick children away cause they don't have insurance? I don't know how well it would pay, but it sounds like you might enjoy the work. Michael

Do it in the winter so you can write your name in the snow. :)

I wish honesty and integrity didn't take a back seat to personality.

LMAO! Not at all. It's much worse than that. [sigh] Why? I don't consider myself above the fray. Doesn't mean I'm blind. Michael

It's not that people are stupid. They just can't be bothered to learn much about themselves and world around them. Life, for most people, consists of making the appropriate social noises and gestures. Michael Who we are, to a great extent, is determined by what we do when it counts.

I am reminded of the woman was was complaining about the obscene phone calls over the past 6 months ...'he keeps calling and goes on and on saying these filthy, disgusting things~" No offense, sister, buy you need to take some responsibility here. If you want the phone calls to end, end them. Michael

You should have majored in Psychology. You still have to write the papers, but you really don't have to read much ...just express an opinion and defend it. Michael

Would you want to be present during a 'Code Blue'?
crwmike replied to crwmike's topic in The Bonfire
Betsy, I guess if you feel you have to be there ...you have to do it. Unfortunately, most people don't realize what they're buying into. Most codes are not the nice, tidy affairs seen on E.R.. I'll have to admit, my preference is to not have family present. Selfishly speaking, it's just ...so much harder for me. Over the decades, I've learned to detach when working a code. With a wife/husband/? present, it's really hard to close your heart to their suffering as well. But then, codes aren't about me and I won't deprive someone of their last moments with the one they love if they choose to be there. I've been in codes where all of us have tears running down our faces as we do our work ...bear witness to a family member unraveling. I can't go to them. I can't comfort them. My duty lies elsewhere. Over the years, it empties your soul. Michael -
My grandfather would have sleepless nights. Always a gentle man, he told me, don't fret and worry, get up and do something ...read, write a letter. You're awake anyway, so why just lay there and be unhappy? Michael "No small art is it to sleep: for its sake must one stay awake all day." --Thus Spake Zarathustra (Man, I hope this sig meets the standards. ;)

All stocked up on both, thanks. Michael

Personality? Michael Gareth already mentioned his bad personality.... you can't use that one! I remember Gareth as a young man, coming to me and asking, "please master, teach me how to piss people off". Tell the truth, grasshopper. Just tell the truth. Michael

My sig keeps disappearing. I go to Edit Profile, type in my sig, then click Make Profile Changes. It stays up for a while then just ...vanishes. Is there something else I need to do? Thanks in advance, Michael

Would you want to be present during a 'Code Blue'?
crwmike replied to crwmike's topic in The Bonfire
Someone you love is in the ER and they 'code' Would you want to be there? My philosophy is that I won't kick you out of the room as long as you are not impeding the process. However ...you'd better strong. On the one hand, I understand the desire to not desert them in their last moments. In the rush to try and save a live ...well, some pretty nasty things happen. What you see is quite likely to be appear to be a horror beyond imagining. Are those the last memories you want? How bout it? Yes or No Michael -
that's been my philosophy for many years. Doesn't seem to be widely appreciated. :( Michael

One of the hardest things to do with a demo is scrub for adverse conditions at jump time. Glad you had the guts to make the call that's right for you. BSBD, Michael
