  1. Hmm, my most serious injury (a torn tendon) happend when I was jumping already injured. Other than that, boo boo and bandade stuff. Michael
  2. Most excellent, Harry! It gives a much better sight picture of what will be happening. I've done dozens of demo's but never jumped with anything trailing. I leave that to people much better than me ...I got enough going on just trying to land in, stand up, smile and wave.
  3. Well, maybe not so much the second part. The assumption is, if you have the rating, you can make the jump. This doesn't seem to be the case. Back when we only had rocks for gear, the organizer would look around and decide who had what it takes to do the job. No certificates involved. No fees paid ...seemed to work well. BSBD, Michael
  4. Agreed. My belief is that there are three things to accomplish on a demo to please the crowd. -Land in -Stand up -Smile and wave Much over that does is lost on spectators. Michael
  5. The increase in the difference in size isn't unusual in recovering from injury. You're overusing the uninjured leg compensating for the injured one. I'd suggest working with a physical therapist specializing in sports injuries and rehab. Good luck! Michael
  6. The way I look at it is this; I would MUCH rather have my face in soft, smooth flesh than hairy sweaty skin; so I figure I can at least do the same in return. It is kind of the same reason I always make sure I am "clean"... You just never know when someone is gonna be down there... Oh, where's that post ......ah, there it is. Thanks Lany. I say go for whatever makes you happy... and if its being a little sissy that does himself like a girl, then so be it. Michael

    Women Drivers

I know, Val. Just wanted to see how it was perceived by others. Folkways (and particularly Mores) tend to hang around generations after their validity (questioable in this case) expires. I grew up in farm country. Damn near every kid I knew was driving cars, trucks, tractors from age 6 or so (think Dukes of Hazzard :). Never saw gender as a factor except I found women with a deft touch on a fast car to be pretty hot Now, show me a chick that can lean through some tight curves with smooth acceleration on a muscle bike ...baby!!! So, I can kinda understand men perpetuating this (it's a dick thing) but a fair number of women seem to believe it. Weird, huh? Michael
  8. I think it's perfect. Great asset for belly dancing. Thanks for defending my honor, Mike! I can't face the camera because, currently, I'm working on my hip movements more You are most welcome, but for the record ...I was defending your assets. Michael

    Women Drivers

I've heard lots of comments from men and women in the general vein of, "should have guessed ...woman driver". So what do you think? Are women more careless in driving than men?
  10. I think it's perfect. Great asset for belly dancing. Michael
  11. We were all thinking it. Thanks for having the courage for saying it here. Michael
  12. Yeah, an' I keep telling people if I ever lose my damn mind and just feel the NEED to do a night jump, I'll worry about it then. Ahhh, night jumps are sooo sweet
  13. I agree. I think that's asking too much from a marriage. ;) Michael
  14. Alright, so now for the most important question: how can I get it so when I am stressed, it feels like I'm getting a back massage? Not sure, but good training might be to get a lot of back massages when you are stressed. It's a win/win situation. Enjoy! Michael
  15. Lol! I know why, I just didn't understand the specific body part thing (as in, why don't my knees hurt when I'm sad rather than my stomach?) Because in a body's arousal state blood isn't shunted away from your knees in order to prepare you for fight or flight. Blood is shunted to your lungs, heart and brain and skeletal muscles, while vasoconstricting the blood vessels in you skin.. The shutdown of your digestive system is logical, for digesting food is an unnecessary energy drain at the time and explains the contraction of your stomach and tightening of the throat. The body only has one 'arousal state' physiologically speaking. What we 'feel' is determined by our previous experiences and adaptive techniques. All this, however, is pretty much an immediate and transitory reaction. When the situation continues, a complicated series of hormones start flooding the body. Governed by the hypothalmus CRH (cortictropin releasing hormone) triggers ACTH (adrenocorticotropic hormone) from the pituitary gland, which results in increased production of cortisol from the adrenal glands. Cortisol does a number of things, but it's main job is to increase energy to vital systems by increasing the availability of blood glucose and converting fat more efficently into energy. It also inhibits the reproductive system (also not necessary at the time) and stimulates the immune system. In short (too late, eh? :), What you feel in various parts of your body is the result of chemicals being shunted to and from various parts with resultant effects on the tissues involved. How you feel is based on who you are and what adaptive experiences you have learned. In response to the same stimulus, one person my feel elation, the other debilitating fear. a third, extreme anger. All have the same physiological processes happening. Michael
  16. I did pretty much the same thing when Andrew was approaching. Problem is, very shortly after the predictions pretty much assure you have a bullseye painted on you, the roads out of town turn into parking lots. Sitting in a car on the Interstate during a Cat 4 hurricane wouldn't be a sound choice (well, I have to admit, it is kind of appealing, don't you think?). If you wait till that time, I'd look at where would be the best place to ride out the storm locally. It might be your home, public shelter. It seems to me most airport parking garages are built like brick shit houses. Good luck to both you and Kalyne ...take video!! Michael
  17. Seen several. Not a bad looking boy. Michael
  18. I encourage her to evaluate her situation and make whatever choices she feels are appropriate. Me? I'd get me and my family the fuck out of there. As my buddy Nipplboy says, "Safety first, fun forever!" BSBD, Michael
  19. No basements down here..just attics...and you won't find me crawling up there Please post that you are OK as soon as you can My guess is that it will be days or even weeks before she has power. michael
  20. Was kind of caught up in the whole Beatle culture thing. Never appreciated Elvis, except as amusement. How bout Simon and Garfunkle? Michael
  21. Excellent learning experience! Thanks, Michael
  22. Yawn... No, seriously man. Wendy is old school all the way and my comments, (while admittedly inspired by your action in another thread, to appreciate Wendy), were limited to that appreciation of her deft touch at keeping a good balance. LIQUID HOT! Given the history I can see why, but I regret you read it differently. She definitely needs more votes, don't you think? Peace, Michael
