  1. Dropzone (though Cutaway is a close second). Thanks to Guy Manos for the movies (and my Lightning 176 :) Michael
  2. I don't consider a marriage license "permission" from the state. I consider it protection from the state. Most of the so-called benefits of legal marriage aren't benefits in the usual sense. Instead, they take the form of powers the government cedes to the spouse. Marriage is one of the very few (perhaps only) ways to get the government off your back in some small ways. Within marriage, inheritance is untaxed. Testimony in court cannot be compelled. When incapacitated, the spouse speaks for the other instead of the government doing so. I don't seek, need, or desire anyone's permission to live and love as I see fit. But I DO desire the small but significant liberty from oppression that comes in a marriage contract. I trust my husband far more than I trust the government in these matters. The romantic part of the marriage? The commitment, support, love, and family teamness of it? That has nothing whatsoever to do with the government. Nothing at all. We provide all we need either way. I'm most impressed with your thoughts. I've never understood why so many people (and our government) are so emotionally bent over the issue of people falling in love and wanting to spend their lives together. I suppose what it comes down to is you are going outside accepted tribal rituals and this scares people. At the very least, they will scorn you ...or try to kill you. If you find someone you love, trust and respect, and choose to spend your lives together, you have my best wishes and support. Michael
  3. Just about any guy under the age of 25. Michael
  4. Quotehttp://www.merck.com/newsroom/press_releases/product/2004_0930.html there's more but you can read it on their website. hell, most people i know take vioxx or celebrex. happy inflammation.... Vioxx has been associated with cardiovascular throbotic events for a while. I'm curious about celebrex. Both drugs are COX-2 inhibitors but I don't see these problems listed for the latter. Bad news for those dealing with arthritis pain. Michael Just saw the Vioxx announcement on CNN ...then they cut to a Celebrex commercial.

  6. Done. Feel better soon, Adam. Michael
  7. I never said it did. I guess it depends on who you are talking to. Post nasal drip is the cause of 95% of the sore throats in my family because of allergies, and what I described is how my doctor told me to treat all of us. The best thing for Adam to do is to go see a doctor if his symptoms don't improve. I was accepting his assessment of having 'some sort of cold or deathly plague' and gave advice accordingly. But, hey, WTFDIK? Michael
  8. Should be interesting to watch over the next few weeks. http://www.yourworldvote.com/
  9. Chloraseptic treats the symptom, not the cause but has it's place in treatment. Hydration is good but then you want to dry up the tissues with an antihistamine ...not good. Your comments on the etiology of most sore throats (i.e. nasal discharge going down) are off base also. It can be a cause, but not likely. Michael
  10. First of all, hydration. Drink at least 10-12 large glasses of water (fruit juice, gatorade) each day. Second, your throat is imflammed so you need an antiinflammatory drug. Advil (ibuprofen) is a great one! If you have no problem taking Advil, take a loading dose of one gram (5, 200mg OTC pills) then follow with one of the following: 400mg every 4 fours 600mg every 6 hours 800 mg every 8 hours 1000mg every 10 hours. Vicodin (hydrocodone and tylenol) has no antiflammatory properties. The hydrocodone (synthetic codiene) would help if the pain is severe but the acetaminophen (tylenol) component would be of little benefit. Hope you feel better. Michael
  11. Nope, that's just guys. Guys post in detail what a woman's body that they fantasize about looks like???
  12. Bass-a-matic Julia Child skit Michael
  13. I don't believe we've had one this stupid since Harding. I'm used to disagreeing with my presidents. I'm more than a little worried when I'm smarter than my president. Michael
  14. You know, I'm pretty sure they told you that there were other ways to become a TOADSUCKER, right? You know, you should have done it, or at least talked to someone on the ground so that they would do this for you on the next jump. When Chris Warnock and I are jumping together, after our hard deck for new docks, he keeps me a little longer, weaving around, spiraling, etc. He waves bye and slings me off the end. It's greater than any roller coaster I've ever been on. Hmmm.....Was I not enough help to you this weekend? I'm sure it's something you won't soon forget. I know I enjoyed it immensely. Thanks for a great time! Nina I don't want to speak before the TOAD Tribunal considers the matter, but I'm guessing phone sex doesn't count. Michael

NO. that nutcase who runs this place has once again hooked up this site. I am soliciting some opinions I have but it doesn't seem to be much different to me b/c I dont use many of those options I guess a few of the 'power users' could find some use for the extra stuff (and it looks kinda cool) but for me, can't see forking out $100/r Michael
  16. Being sober around vikings is most amusing ...and occasionally profitable. Michael
  17. Could be any number of things, stress included. It's not my intention to increase your stress level by mentioning this but several medical conditions (low magnesium is a big one) can cause eye twitching (nystagmus). It's also a common symptom with Multiple Sclerosis and Menieres Disease (characterized by nystagmus, panic attacks, hearing loss, sensitivity to noise, vertigo, headaches and sweating) It could also be to medications. On physical exam, one of the first manifestations of Dilantin (seizure medication) toxicity is nystagmus. My money is on low magnesium level and/or low Thiamin (Vit B1). Not sure what you mean by 'friday night activities' but alcohol abuse commonly results in magnesium and Vit B deficiencies. Finally, I leave you with this advice. Any new onset of nystagmus should receive prompt medical evaluation. Good luck. Michael Keep in mind, I have ZERO credibility here, yet wander these boards as a pretender ;)
  18. Just talked to a couple of CRWDogs in T'ville. They just drove by there a few minutes ago and said the place looked pretty good. No word on Sebastian but while watching the news last night, a lot of video was coming out of the Sebastian/Port St Lucie area as examples of how bad the storm was. :( I understand Z-Hills was not flying out their aircraft. Anyone have word on them? I'm just guessing Lake Wales flew out their airplane. :) Michael
  19. Not even a good strorm down here. I watched the progress on TV last night and was wondering the same thing. Michael
  20. You're a little mixed up here, mike. Rousseau expanded on the theories of an Englishman named John Dryden. John Locke, another Englishman, came from the Hobbes camp. However, he disagreed with Hobbes' views of the role of authority in keeping society under control, i.e., Hobbes's view that mankind contracted with a sovereign to keep society functional. John Locke was probably the first libertarian in that he proposed that there was a "social contract" between mankind. He agreed with Hobbes that mankind was, in essence, a selfish sort. However, he believed that all men were equal and shold be permitted to act so long as they were not harming each other. John Locke was a big influence on the American Revolutionaries (Hobbesian in belief of man's nature, but Lockeian in solution). He merely expoinded on Hobbes's thinking - that the social contract bound mankind, not submission to a sovereign authority. You're absolutely right, I was confused. What can I say, it been 36 years since my poly sci classes. Thanks for the clarification. Michael
  21. An over simplification, but it's a matter of focus. Concern for others vs concern for self. Neither is superior to the other and both have their down sides. Michael
  22. Some do. Not all. To quote a comedic line, "If capable, any two year old would cut your heart out with a knife if you stood between them and a cookie." Michael
  23. Interesting. Classically, this discussion takes place in the form of Hobbs vs Locke. What? How did Rosseau break in? Michael
  24. It's more of a symptom, actually. However, like pain, the more bitterness you have, the worse it makes the problem. Michael
